Sorry, just not a fan of the red underwear. We are never going to agree on this.

It's not about the costume. It's about a characterization that resonates with people.

No, it's not about the costume. Of course it's not. But it is about the attitude that deems the classic Superman costume as 'silly' or 'out of date'. It's the same attitude that deems the classic character as a whole as 'silly' or 'out of date'. It's what leads to the dreadful characterisation that Snyder gave us. Instead of being embarrassed about the cheesier, more comic book-y aspects of Superman, WB should be embracing them. If that pisses off fanboys who want everything serious and super-cool, then so be it.

Agreed about the MoS suit.

Why they ditched that to go with the ridiculous muscle padding, I'll never know.

I think WB/Snyder had a falling out with the folks who made the MOS suit, so they decided to not only change it but go with other folks. Not 100% sure on that tho, but do remember the folks who made the suit being pissed off.

lol

If the next batch of suits comes with the redpanties then I won't make a big deal out of it, I simply don't like it. I don't like it on Batman either. That simple.

I don't mind the red underwear in the comics and animation but after seeing the MOS suit I realized that the suit could easily work without them and to be honest I don't wanna see the red undies in live action anymore, in animation and comics fine but not live action.

MoS suit is perfection as is WW's costumes. Studios need to stop feeling the need to change what is already fantastic.

Agreed, but we all know why they do.

In this day and age, in this political and social climate, with a corrupt fool in the White House, and a world permanently and seemingly teetering on the brink of some kind of disaster... a Superman movie with a Superman who embodies hope, truth, honour and a decent character makes a billion quicker than any other superhero.

We do have this superhero, and his name is Captain America. :oldrazz:

Yeah, but Superman can do it better, and probably doesn't need RDJ in his films to make a billion dollars at the BO.

No, but he apparently needed Batman to make 870m.

Seriously tho, a great Supes movie should do a billion.

This iteration has reached its ceiling potential. Too many films and too much time has gone by to do a drastic turnaround with audiences on Cavill's Supes.

Cap is great in the MCU, and they’ve really done well to retain his core characteristics, but make him relevant. “I can do this all day” is a great piece of writing.

But...

He’s not Superman.

In fact, he’s a shadow of Superman. He wouldn’t exist without Superman. His original name was ‘Super American’. He represents a very American-centric view of heroism. Superman belongs to the world.

And if somebody could actually write him properly, he can be the kind of character that brings people together. You know, like he used to be.

As has been noted before, there was no correct answer listed in the poll for this thread - $600-700M. The lowest choice was over $700M.

Black Panther box office poll has the reverse problem - no choice for over $1B, or even over $1.2B. There's been quite a sea change in the last few years.

Superman needs someone (like Donner) who can really get to the heart of the character but also needs someone that can make him fresh and make the story resonate with those who like story and those who like action.

I really hope they don't do a reboot as I really like Cavill in the role.

Obviously I meant with a total reboot. Despite the JC debacle Id go with Brad Bird. And yeah Id wait a few years. Wondie is now their flagship. Which is fine.

Mark Millar on why DCU movies aren't working:

And I have to ask your thoughts on the current DCEU movies given you spent some quality time at DC Comics – apart from Wonder Woman, what is Warner Bros. doing wrong?

I think it’s really simple the characters aren’t cinematic and I say this as a massive DC fan who much prefers their characters to Marvel’s. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are some of my favourites but I think these characters, with the exception of Batman, they aren’t based around their secret identity they are based around their super power. Whereas the Marvel characters tend to be based around the personality of Matt Murdock or Peter Parker or the individual X-Men, it’s all about the character. DC, outside of Batman, is not about the character. With Batman, you can understand him and you can worry about him but someone like Green Lantern, he has this ring that allows him to create 3D physical manifestations and green plasma with the thoughts in his head but he’s allergic to the colour yellow! How do you make a movie with that? In 1952 that made perfect sense but now the audience have no idea what that’s all about.

People will slam me for this but I think the evidence is there. We’ve seen great directors, great writers and great actors, tonnes of money thrown at them, but these films aren’t working. I think they are all too far away from when they were created. Something feels a little old about them, kids look at these characters and they don’t feel that cool.
Even Superman, I love Superman, but he belongs to an America that doesn’t exist anymore. He represents 20th Century America and I think he peaked then.

Sounds like it’s time for a Red Son reboot…

I’d rather they just left that one alone!

Spot on, imho.

Millar is full of ****, he's still butt hurt cause they didn't go with his pitch. It's as simple as that

Spot on? That is the biggest bunch of horse shi@% I've ever, ever heard. Couldn't be more spot on wrong. Superman not "cool" enough for kids? Belonging to an America that doesn't exist? Red Son? Nah. This:

IMHO, America needs Superman more than ever right now.

I’ve got the exact opposite opinion to Millar on this.

Millar is wrong. His way of thinking has contributed to Superman's troubles.

I'd really like to see a superman film set in the 1950's, but with a villain like brainic that would give even our modern tech huge problems.

I think it's the exact same amount of bs that we have been hearing so far. Not cool enough for today it's pretty much exactly what got us MoS and BvS.

Funny how Millar thinks he understands the problem with the films seeing them as the opposite of what they are, while proposing to fix them doing exactly what has been done.

Will the real Mark Millar please stand up! On his millarworld forums he's always talking about how superman shouldn't be turned into something he's not and then he does a 180 and says this. Thank god he's with netflicks and couldn't do superman when Vaughn asked him to because it's that kind of bull**** thinking that gave us crap fests like SR and Snyder's 'epic' superman 'trilogy'.
