Justice League Mortal Thread

Honestly the casting wasn’t even bad. Armie would’ve been fine.

And the script is good. It would’ve been 100x better than what we got.

The only problem I had with the casting was Baruchel as Max which was just...yeah. Lord is supposed to ooze charisma and charm. Baruchel's made his entire career playing awkward nerds.

It's been a while since I've read the script, but I don't remember anything about Bruce having a broken back ala Kingdom Come.

EDIT: Some more concept art in addition to what I posted earlier.

EDIT 2: Decided to put in the captions and interesting comments.

Miller’s Justice League again - I did a Supes sans the red undies too as you see here which caused a bit of consternation! It does streamline him and make him look nice and tall. Also worked on Superman Returns and had some personal/subjective ideas about the balance of that costume too! ??

Here’s the wider version- Supes had brought the whole of the Kent farmhouse to the fortress of solitude. That’s Aquaman in the ice block there. The usual pencil then painted in photoshop.

Bacchanalian party at Batman’s house! Woot! More Justice League Mortal, this time Wayne Manor. I had Bosch’s Garden of Earthly delights in the illuminated dancefloor triptych ??. Seemed appropriate.

More Justice League Mortal/Miller. Flash and Martian Manhunter approach Batman’s coffin. I’d never seen an Art Deco cathedral before so what the hey! ?? part of a storyboard/keyframe/design sequence for the funeral at the start. Pencil, photoshop.

We do! Not many people know that before that he started on a Wonder Woman movie! But Warner’s balked at him getting “too mythological” and wanting to spend too much time on Themiscyra for their liking. The stuff I saw for that one looked hella cool though...

He was just over 20 at the time, but the young casting was something Warner’s imposed. So that they could have them on contract for multiple films. It was that for story freedom I think. But these are movies and they weren’t necessarily playing their true age (how often does that happen!). But sure, though it wasn’t meant to be the end of his career and took place at the start, it’s still weird I absolutely agree. Hollywood eh?! ??

Batman watches his own burial from afar. Storyboard for Justice League Mortal/Miller!

These Bats ones are just storyboards so not really design oriented, but yeah WETA were doing the costumes and the Batman one did have mild exoskeleton type bracing in parts. But also regular type utility belt and even prefigured the current one a little with textured armour and stuff...

You sad, bro? Batman was the ‘mortal’ of Justice League: Mortal. Maybe a slightly controversial moral barometer for the team, but being human with no powers the best representative/voice of human reason to a group of Gods/immortals.

Back to Wayne Manor - a smaller room off the main hall. This one was a bit of an exercise in being opulent/ornate without blowing the budget. So everything here is step-and-repeat/molded or cheaty stuff like printed and lacquered floors for a faked parquetry look and so on... had fun with just pencil and some asymmetrical flopping in pshop!

Both! At different times! Bit of Moroccan in this one, but absolutely baroque and over the top with some of the other rooms.

Meanwhile...
“The S stands for... sad.”

Yup. And where did I get them? ?? Did ya see what I do for a living mate? ??

Sure, just been super (sorry no pun intended) busy on a movie which is why I haven’t posted anything for a while. Will get back to it soon...

Coming down to land...

This one was crazy! So remember how Superman brought Kent Farmhouse to the Fortress of Solitude? It went through a whole arc where George thought maybe bringing the whole thing there was a bit on the nose (Supes was having an existential crisis about his identity/loyalties) so maybe inside it’s a bit frosted over. Then maybe the house is real but the furniture is made from ice (heat vision)? Then maybe the other furnishings? Then finally ok make the whole place ice Matt! ?? surely they have cg for this sorta stuff... ?? It started out as a paintover of someone else’s house interior (I promise if I ever remember whose I’ll give credit) and ended up being a totally new painting!

Page 60 or it's after all that OMAC beating & does explain why Hammer said his suit has all this tech.

Thanks.

And reading through the comments in one of Hatton's IG links, he said this...

Yeah I can agree with that one, kind of felt like a strange choice but who knows he may have brought it. I honestly wish this film had been made I truly think it would have been hugely successful.

Was just about to post in here.

It's weird how this could have just been a onesie, but for some reason he's still wearing briefs & boots.

If these were posted before, mb. Just now found them from the same site, but dates back a week.

Why was Flash wearing black? And I assume Yelchin was supposed to be Wally?

They were all going to be wearing black variations of their costumes at the beginning, for a funeral of one of the team.

Yep.

Wally suits up at the end according to the script.

I completely disagree. I felt like the dialogue was extremely mediocre, and the overall story left a lot to be desired.

That's not to say that I was much happier with how Justice League turned out, but I thought that the base story was better served as an intro. The Tower of Babel type stuff would make for a strong sequel imo.

George Miller or not, these designs are horrific.

People really need to stop getting caught up in pre production art like it’s a basis for whether something would have been good or not.

What? Are you saying concept art and costume fittings aren't the finished product!? :o

This movie looks like it was shaping up to be the absolute bomb.
