First of all, Karate originated from China. Okinawa people learned it from the Chinese.

yes, but in those pictures it seems like Jackie Chan is teaching Jaden KUNG FU (Jaden is in a horse stance), not Karate.

if Jackie ends up teaching Jaden some Karate in the film then i supposed the title is warranted...but if the only discipline that Jaden learns is Kung Fu then there's absolutely no justification for using the title 'Karate Kid'. it's as simple as that.

but couldn't the same thing be said about comedy ,gangsters, policeman, western
science fiction fantasy an all other movie that they been trying to shove down our throat since the day cinema was born.
the fact is now that they have the technologies and a lot of writing material about superhero that they can make all kind of superhero movies they want.

same thing can be said about terminator
...reminds me when I was a little kid I was so fascinated with the six million dollar man stories specially those with human like robot fighting Steve Austin that
I wanted to make mine as well .
so I came up with and idea that was very very similar to terminator
I even made a comic book about it that was publish at about 30 copies in schools
my computer name was sky lab based on the moon and he sent robots through time to destroyed all human kind
and about two years later
terminator was on the big screen
I never considered it was my original idea.
my point is, anybody who was a big fan of the six million dollar man could have came up with a story like that

I haven't seen avatar yet and I can't wait to see it
but I read a couple of Richard Corben underground comic book stories and even in heavy metal illustrated magazines that deal with about the same subject from what I gather
and God bless James Cameron for bringing that type of vision to the big screen.

Eh...I guess like alot of remakes, redoing the Karate Kid isnt a bad idea. Uneccessary but not terrible.

But I dont get why they would want to make it set in Middle School. I mean seeing a pre teen fight and then fall in love or whatever just doesnt do anything for me

And how many times are they going to use "Remember the Name" in a trailer. I like the song but it's getting overplayed and has been for like 4 years. Also I was cracking up with Jackie Chan started fighting those middle schoolers

great point, but other pix have shown Jackie using the old bamboo/rope wrapped around the wrists method to help Jaden with his form. this is a technique/archetype that is associated with kung fu films (can't think of any karate/tae kwon do/kickboxing films that utilize that method)...which leads me to believe that Jaden is learning the kung fu form of the horse stance.

It looks like a typical action film, so I don't expect much from this movie so this is a skip for me. Though it does look like they at least trying to make a good film (which is more than I can say for Dragonball: Evolution).

Best thing about that entire trailer was Jackie Chan. Jaden was alright but the mother was incredibly annoying.

I thought the idea for this was ******ed but that trailer shocked me. It actually looks pretty decent. This movie is ment for kids not for our demographic and I think kids are going to love this movie. Jaden didn't look as awful as I thought he would and Jackie looks really good, I thought he'd play it really slapstick but it looks like he's playing it very serious, plus that end with the bug and chopsticks had me laughing pretty hard. They got my butt in a seat on opening weekend.
