Karl Urban IS Skurge The Executioner

lt_X492_Jc9_Ew.jpg

I never thought I would see the day that I would see the Executioner in live action in all his glory.

Now hopefully they don't kill him off as fast as they introduce him.
Nop. I don't think so.

Karl Urban:
“I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved … and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of. And the character is fantastic. He’s got a great arc to him. Obviously I can’t say too much about it, but I’m really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.”
He's gonna have a decent part for sure.

He looks great, and I couldn't have asked for a better shot than one taken directly from his most legendary appearance in the comics.

Are the m16s enchanted or something? Unless he is fighting on earth, I can't imagine bullets are going to be that effective against whatever he is fighting.

This how Skurge goes down in the comics and in that particular arc. Skurge's Last Stand.

I know nothing about the character, but Karl Urban is one of my favorite character actors, so I hope he gets his shine in this even though he might only be a simple henchman to Hela. He looks badass though, especially with no hair lol.

In the comics, Skurge was the muscle for Amora the Enchantress, and he served her (even through she constantly used him and treated him like crap) because he was madly in love with her. One of the biggest theories is that Skurge will play the same role here, but to Hela rather than Amora who isn't in the movie. Skurge eventually turned against Amora and sacrificed his life to help Thor and some Asgardian Warriors escape from Hela's clutches, which you can see in the panel above that HammerDown posted. It's generally celebrated as one of the greatest comic book deaths ever, which is why it's probably likely they'll adapt it in some capacity here, maybe with Skurge again eventually turning against Hela and sacrificing himself to help the heroes.

So just a theory, but since he's shown using guns in the trailer and we've seen concept art of Thor wielding (what looks to be) an axe in Infinity War, I'm wondering if Executioner gives his axe to him at some point during Ragnarok.

I wonder if Skurge's axe will have the power to open dimensional portals in the MCU like it does in the comics. I hope so, that would be pretty sweet and it gives him more interesting powers than merely just being a big, strong warrior guy.

His "Last Stand" is a iconic moment from the comics and something that will be a show stopper in the movie for sure. Having said that how do you guys think they are going to explain the M16's in the context of the movie? He has to get them from Earth at some point right...

We also have seen him with his massive axe in the behind the scenes pictures.
He is gonna be armed to the teeth.

As well he should be :cwink:

The sheer quantity of awesome moments this movie is likely to contain is really quite mind-boggling.

Edit: Mandatory post-credits scene... Thor and Banner having a drink in memory of Skurge.

The Asgardians have been visiting Earth for thousands of years by the sounds of it, it's not that unlikely that there could be some Midgardian weapons and technology floating around there. I remember some of the Marauders having what looked like flintlock pistols in the scene in Vanaheim in TDW,

I'm wondering the reason Skurge visited to get modern weapons too.
We know the Asgardians have visited often. They even had one on Agents of Shield leave Asgard hundreds of years ago for Earth

Weapons on display in the Marvel exhibition.

Thor - Mjolnir & Gladiatorial Swords
Asgardians - Spear & Shield
Hela - Nightsword
Valkyrie - Dragonfang
Skurge - Bloodaxe

If someone could post the image it would be appreciated. First real look at Skurge's axe.

There is a far simpler explanation. Hulk's Quinjet has been spotted in asgard so he passed through the wormhole with the jet intact. Every Quinjet has a Black Widow weapon stash like CW showed.

Skurge simply picked a couple of M16 from Black Widow's storage.

Good call!

That is def gonna be the reason.

That's definitely the same axe that the random crew member was carrying on those set pics, presumably meaning that Skurge is in the 'Asgard is dead' scene where Hela fights the Asgardian army and takes control.

I wish we could see a pic of Skurge and Hela already, I bet they'll took totally badass together. The Death Goddess and her chief Executioner. :woot:
