Kenneth Branagh to direct Thor

I agree with MarcVader. The public won't care if Hulk isn't in it. They don't know he was on the team.

Except they (some of them, at least :cwink:) saw Robert Downey Jr in Incredible Hulk tell Ross he was forming a team.

I don't get why there's even a discussion of not including Hulk in an Avengers movie. There's no reason not to and every reason to.

Thing is, the Avengers movie is a long ways off. As of right now they are going ahead with IM2 and it seems Thor is finally picking up steam. There is almost no doubt a Cap movie is going to be made just before an Avengers movie. People will have these heroes fresh on their minds and will probably have their connections to the Avengers clearly defined by the time it is released. Do you really think that regular people are going to care if the under performing Hulk is in the Avengers in 2012. I agree the Hulk in the Avengers and as an opponent for Thor would be an awesome sight. I'm just saying that there is no reason to get in a tizzy if he is left out. He is not essential to the Avengers success in 2012, Iron Man, Cap, and Thor will be .

Back on topic though, I hope we get an official announcement from Marvel on Branagh soon.

True. I forgot about that.

I expect he will. Whether Norton is Banner in the film and how it affect's Marvel's decision to use the character in Avengers without him is difficult to know what they'll do.

ok, up until NOW ronny shade was making some very great points!! Ang lee's hulk.... a masterpiece?? that's like saying bryan singer's "Superman Returns" was an all out wall to wall action slugfest!!!

C'mon Ronny, how can u say the hulk is popular and the audience will follow his character if it's re-casted a 3rd time...YET say he should NOT be included in the avengers to fight thor??!! (back on topic now...hehehe)

Serioulsy if there is no huge bad guys or someone who can physically beat on thor/vice versa then we are left with another strong big guy without a sense of purpose. It's simple bad uncontrolled hulk in the beginning (he gets subdued/knocked out...by THOR'S hammer after captain america takes hulks legs out with his shield), good hulk towards the end of the movie when it looks like the avengers might lose the final battle.
I never said Hulk shouldn't fight Thor in the avengers film. I think its a decent idea.

And Ang Lee's film is filled with nuance, emotion and imagery...also good acting that was sorely lacking from the newer Leterrier version.

I don't think majority of fans would agree with you. Besides, a Hulk movie that has a weak Banner will not succeed, and Norton gave a stellar performance. Moviegoers want to be connected to the Hulk, and they can't do that if his human alter ego were terrible. Recasting the role of Banner will be the worst decision they can make.
Bana's Banner was NOT weak. It was a nuanced and subtle...things that people are in REALITY. Norton's version was a camp fest, completely unbelievable and therefore boring.

Don't bring believability into a film where the main character turns into a 9 foot green monster.

It is all just a matter of opinion, I found Ang's Hulk boring, you found Leterrier's Hulk boring. People have opinions and differences, just leave it at that.

But on topic, I think Branagh will deliver big time for Thor.

I believe in bringing character believability into everything.

I agree. But I like Branagh because he has a great appreciation for the character realism that I was just referring to.

Last time we heard from Norton, he said he flat out doesn't know if Marvel is looking for him to do a Hulk sequel or be a part of the Avengers.

The worst you can do though is go back to Banner... how people are even throwing that on the table is beyond my comprehension... Marvel has to have Norton... otherwise they need to bring in a Brad Pitt as Thor to replace that star power.

So Branagh is official? I thought it was still heresay/unofficial

Ahhhh you made me click an MTV link!!!! :cmad:...............:hehe:

The only movie I've seen of his is his version of Frankenstein, which I thought was just fine. Looking at his resume, I can see Branagh pulling this off.

I would highly suggest that anyone who hasn't seen his Henry V or Hamlet films check them out as soon as possible. Both are tremendous.

Just a question.

Didn't Marvel have another director signed on to this film a long time ago but then he dropped out or Marvel didn't want him anymore?

Matthew Vaughns contract ran out

He is currently doing Kick Ass though which is in production.

i wonder will branagh do a re-write of the script, and will that delay the film even more..

I hope that branagh gets some really high profile people involved, especially for the main roles.. John Rhys-Davies must be Volstagg!

I hope Branagh will sign up soon, because the release date for Thor is very tight if they still don't have a script nor a director attached to the project. Marvel may want to consider the possibility of pushing back the release date.

They have a script AND a director. The Variety article listed him as "In Negotiations", and they had an article yesterday about movies that were being pushed into production which listed him as the director.

If he's still "In negotiations" they don't technically have a director. Negotiations have fallen through in the past.

And, Marvel is the only one that really knows if they have a script. And whether that script is in line with, if he chooses to sign, Branagh's vision of the movie. Not to mention if that script works with the strengths of the actor they choose for the part.

That said, I do think that there's more time here than people suspect. Preproduction isn't likely to start until this Winter with production not likely to start until the Spring. And, believe it or not, it doesn't take that long to rewrite a script. You could name a director in December and hire a lead in early February and probably still make the proposed release date. The question isn't, can they have a script in time, but how good is the rewritten script?

Sorry, I didn't state that very clearly. Let me rephrase. A week ago they ran a piece saying he was in negotiations. And, just yesterday, they listed him as the director amongst a bunch of other confirmed directors. I'm not sure how from-the-studio the second one is, but I take it as a kind of confirmation that he's signed on.
