Kenneth Branagh to direct Thor

I think moving the Avengers was a good idea because it was slated to come out a couple months after Captain America and it would have been pretty weird to have two movies featuring him as a main character in theaters at the same time.

It does suck about getting Thor getting delayed. If it wasn't for that damn writer's strike we could have possibly been getting it this year.

Ditto.

It sucks to wait. But in the end, I think it's probably for the best. A rushed Thor movie would have lots of chances of not being that good.

F***ing crap. I buy tickets to San Diego Comic-Con, splash out on flights from Scotland to San Diego and a hotel - a couple of thousand right there, and set up this once in a lifetime trip, with a big draw being hopes of getting some first glimpse of Thor and Green Lantern. And now both films have been delayed to the point where there's zero chance of us getting anything at Comic-Con? Suckage. :csad:

I'm positive WB might do something GL-related for the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, and I'm positive IM-2 will be part of CC too.

I mean, we still have one potentially good Marvel and DC movie apiece to look forward to in 2010, so it's not so big a disappointment.

How the hell does Thor move back an entire year??? I mean are you kidding me? I knew SM4 was going to want May 6th 2011... no denying that... Now both projects get HORRIBLE dates in 2011... what a disaster... I am waiting for the excuses to start.

This great news. I don't want any rushing when it comes to making these flicks which there's no denying was the feeling I got before this announcement. The only negative I see is the possibility of having to wait longer for Thor casting now.

Well I thought Marvel had to have two films every year? Apparently that means nothing now. What is to stop them from moving these projects back even further if the time comes? This is already the fourth if not fifth change to the slate. And people were complaining about June releases... I thought that is why Thor went to July in the first place.

Yeah well no way they will fit Ant-Man into 2010. You figured they would have had a back up plan. Edgar Wright was working on a script... guess that went to the back burner.

I think this does hurt the BO potential for both Cap and Thor (Thor getting a terrible release date...Cap's isn't that bad of one). However, Avengers now has a great date lined up, and will make a lot of dough if it is able to keep it.

However, Spidey May 6, 2011!!! YAY!!!

My initial reaction is a giant "WTF". Thor's new release date isn't good at all

Bah, don't get down Chewy. This'll ensure that we get more time for the parties involved to give us an epic Thor flick.

Yeah, but why not open it on Memorial Day weekend? Or open Cap on the 4th of July weekend?

It doesn't make any sense

Avengers' new date is great, though. As is SM4's, but I'm not really looking forward to SM4 all that much

Exaclty..... Cap on July 4th weekend would have been so gold and cliche and perfect.. just like ID4.

Is Thor's dialogue going to be somewhat of a mix between Asgardian and Midgardian like in the current comicbook run?

Who says they wont move Cap again? Seriously Cap on July 4th weekend is too good to not do.

If they move Cap to July 4th, they'd HAVE to move Thor, too. No way can they just come out two weeks apart

I guarantee you Sony is trying to keep another Marvel film away from May. I mean sort of like how Prince of Persia slid into the last week of May 2010... Thor should go there as well. They need to make a switch before it is too late and another big franchise steps in.

How is Kenneth Branagh a good choice?

I'm not against him, I just don't understand how this is great news.

This has come completely out of left field.

I agree that its something of a shock, however I really think this is the perfect choice, and I'm suprised I never thought of it. Thor is very epic and very shakespearean in feel and style, and Kenneth is the perfect person to bring that out.

I am going to a taping of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on April 29th and Kenneth Branagh is the guest. The taping usually starts at 5 - 5:30pm PT and typically ends around 7pm. I'll post any breaking news when I get home before the telecast later that night.
