Johnny Depp's Guy Lapointe character gets introduced and what the hell, this movie quickly takes a nosedive into horribleness. I've never seen a movie flatline this epicly. Up till this point, the movie was a started as a comedy (but wasn't funny) and evolved into a horror movie. Once Depp pops up, it quickly goes back to comedy but the movie jumps back and forth between comedy and horror in every scene and it just doesn't work. Guy is a character that serves no purpose in the movie and takes up 15 minutes of screen time in a Denny's talking about Michael Parks, all stuff we don't need to hear about.
Oh and Parks/Depp have a flashback and it's the worst scene I think I might've ever seen. I couldn't even follow what was going on because my jaw was dropped. From there, the movie devolves into set piece after set piece of quirky accents and Canada jokes, all stuff that wasn't even funny in the 90's and crammed with every Smith in joke he could fit in.
Oh and the walrus design makes no sense whatsoever. I wasn't sure if it was meant to be a costume made out of messing with Long's skin but it doesn't make sense since it turns a scrawny 160 lb guy into a 400 lb walrus. It's basically a giant cheap costume that isn't believable and it's also over lit. Smiths' favorite movie is Jaws but he never understood that the less we see of the shark, the better. Here, we see the full costume in bright lights and it doesn't hold up AT ALL.
