But What do think would be different in the Virals if Heath hadn't tragically passed on? Static Video with actual Joker footage? Different Joker calls? I don't know, this thought just crossed my mind.

I might be wrong, but I think they went ahead as planned. A lot of it was still very Joker-centric.

The static video message taped was what I thought would be the end, but we haven't seen that done yet.

All of the viral marketing footage was filmed before Heath died. If you go online and look up some interviews, you'll see some footage that was used in the virals.

One stands out in my mind - The Good Morning America one that was done a long time ago

I was thinking that too, how cool it would have been to see the security camera footage with him actually smiling if he were still alive, rather than the IBIHDt00 pic on it instead

What is that that you're referring to, because I believe i remember one "introduction" to the movie that had a preliminary picture of the joker, but it wasn't Heath, it was a different make-up test.

i agree though, i don't think the virals would have been any different, Heath, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, even Morgan Freeman are all (or would be) working on new projects, so this all had to be done in advance.

I'm not so sure about that. If you remember, the cake phones were released and the prologue was shown about the same time as Heath's passing. It seemed as though the viral was picking up it's pace, then came to a screeching halt for about a month to two months. Then the cake phones had a text saying "Hey clown, you still with me?? Respond back"

I think the only main difference in the campaign is that there may have been one or two phone calls with Joker's voice. Instead, everything revolved around text. Be it text messages or typed up notes on the whysoserious.com pages.

There might have ended up being a little bit more Joker swag for the game too, but because of the amount of people that might try to get it and resell it on e-Bay just to try and make money off the guy's memory, 42E might have decided just to halt on it altogether.

Hopefully The Dark Knight DVD will have some bonus features regarding the whole viral process, including what was left out.

It's really hard to say. I'm not sure how much of the viral stuff was filmed beforehand, but Christian Bale apparently has a buzz cut now for Terminator filming, so his little cameo in Gotham Tonight was definitely filmed before that! :funny:

42E also reacts to the participants, too. They don't plan every last detail when they first figure out the game. The CFB forums and the Bamboozled game definitely come into mind. :hehe: The dead stop in January and February was definitely a reaction to Ledger's passing, but I don't think they had an enormous amount of things they had to scrap.

I think they realistically set things into stone a week or two before they actually implement them, with the large location meetups taking more planning logistically. For the online games though, it only takes people working at a computer so they can ride by the seat of their pants for that. :funny:

The thought that saddens me the most is that I would have loved to know what his reaction to seeing the game and the enthusiasm it created. I know he would have loved it, and it's sad he missed it. :(

I think you're assuming too much there. If Ledger were still alive, there's no reason to think he would've even had any interest in the virals.

Besides,

Dwelling on what might have been doesn't do anyone any good.

Hah

I believe they stated that Heath has fufilled his contract before his passing, which would mean everything for the ARG would have been done already. It's not like he'd have been doing the ARG for free, out of the kidness of his heart, as a little side project with 42e

do you think he waited until he was finished before overdosing?

Im pretty sure they went ahead as normal, same with his family saying they didn't want anything to change or be altered...I believe?

Heath would have loved this level of human and fan interaction for sure, they've kept it how it would have been and for it...it's been Extra special

RIP Mr Ledger, we did this for your honour!

Huh?

Maybe i just don't understand what you're asking, but it would seem that you think his overdosing was intentional (it wasn't), and that they weren't done filming on the Dark Knight(which they were - Heath was home in NY after some filming on the his Terry Gillam movie - it was a break, and he was back from ENGLAND. Not Chicago.)

I don't know..any articles and interviews I've ever seen show that Heath absolutely loved the character he created. It is only an assumption but I would think that were he still alive, he would be following his fans' reactions to his character closely. I'd like to think that he might have made a small appearance at some point also, just as how other actors appeared on GCN. Again, just speculation and my personal opinion. After seeing the movie, it was really upsetting thinking about how he is no longer around :csad:

I agree, after seeing the movie I was even more heartbroken that he was no longer with us. What a great job he did.

I'm not sure we would have gotten an appearance from him guys. Most of the other characters just have to throw on a suit and they are ready for Mr. Engles couch. He would need a full blown makeup session.. Plus, think of all the things involved in the Joker's performance. It seemed he really thought out every scene. I don't think even a mintue long appearance would have been something they could have done quickly in between takes.

Plus, why introduce the character before the movie came out? Let's face it, half the people who participate are going for the Joker, and not Batman. Might have broken some of the suspense.

And, it does sadden me every time I think of it. This will be the rough point. The wanting to see interviews, and as the film grows with success, and all along it feels like he just did not get to enjoy this stage of the game.

But at the risk of sounding too corny, I think he would have liked everyone to just really enjoy the movie, and to contemplate it's messages and what his character suggested versus what is the moral thing to do.

Yeah this is all I'm saying. I'm not assuming that if he were alive he'd get his hands dirty and try to run the whole viral himself, I just think he'd have in interest in the enthusiasm created by the virals for a character he brought to life.
