The last trilogy ended right when the ape civilization was getting started. The trilogy was pretty much only a prologue. And the franchise has been ongoing for 50 years and is an icon in Fox's catalogue. So a person would have to be pretty dense to think there wouldnt be more Apes films.

And just because Reeve's trilogy was good doesnt mean he should be the last director to make an Apes film. Reeves got to tell his part of the story and now other director's will get to tell their own stories in the Apes universe. I wonder if this Brewton person also thinks Nolan's Batman trilogy should have been the last Batman films made?

He only directed Dawn and War.

The new Planet of the Apes Trilogy is, imo, one of the best trilogies in film history. For sure in the top 5.
I remember when everyone, including me, thought that Rise of the Planet of the Apes was gonna suck because the marketing was slow, it was made by FOX, etc. But I remember being blown away all 3 movies.
I should do a rewatch soon.


I personally think all 3 Maze Runner films are very good. Not saying they're Oscar worthy or "20 years from now we're going to be talking about Maze Runner"
But they are very entertaining and competently done. Some of the action beats are really good especially in the 3rd one. THere's some very good acting. It's probably the best YA movie series since Harry Potter to me. Although I understand that's faint praise. I've been meaning to pick up the trilogy on Blu Ray.

I was wondering when Wes Ball would do something else. I thought his career might be stalled after Dylan O Brien got injured.

Ideally, I'd like the events of the future films to be somewhere around 50-100+ years since War. Essentially, Earth is slowly being re-civilized by apes, like building new cities, nations, and international organizations. Making a new world order in the same vein humans did during the Industrial Revolution.

The only thing I' m kinda uspet about is that Disney shut down "The Mouse Guard," only to put Wes Ball on yet another old IP. It's kinda symptomatic in this day and age, and I hope that's not all Disney will do with 20th Century Fox going forward.

I do agree with BM though that the last trilogy was one of the best of all time. For me War is one of the best blockbusters of the last few years, it's so dark and raw, yet at the same time so emotional. Reeves best movie so far for me. But Rise and Dawn are amazing also. Surprised Wyatt's career didn't take off more after Rise.

But yeah I won't take those expectations into the new series, I just hope we get good movies, anything more like War will just be a bonus.

I really dug Wes Ball's Maze Runner trilogy, so I'm fully on board.

I loved the last 3 movies they where all really good with war being my favorite. The very first one of the old ones was pretty good for its time. The time Burtin one was really bad and i think 3-5 of the old ones i have not seen. Wondering when Disney will put them on disney+ would like to see the 3 of the older ones i have not seen before. With out Andy does take away some from what ever comes next but still look foward to what ever comes next.

Sources say that the film will be a reboot so it is unlikely that it will be connected to the previous ‘Planet of the Apes’ trilogy that was done under 20th Century Fox. Film journalists overuse the term "reboot." Anything that isn't a direct sequel they call a reboot.

As I was scrolling down, I was going to say doing a reboot is silly when they don't need to at all. Just make sequels that are years down the line. Glad Wes Ball squashed the bad reporting
