Knight Rider

Nah. I find the Corvette's shape makes it look like a Porsche 928 or 924, both of which had that type of sloping back.

924:

I prefer the shape of the Pontiac Trans-Am with the back for KITT.

I see your point. On a sidenote, I admire 928s a lot .... my Dad has one in his collection for 15yrs or so now, still a lovely thing to drive.

One of the hunters is Michael Knight, on a hunting expedition.

Right Elgaz? ;)

LOL sorry I had the Predator thread opened too and typed the reply into the wrong window.

But yes ............. Michael Knight vs Predator .............. what's not to like??

Although the narration at the beginning said "Michael Knight, a lone crusader...", the series was actually more of a buddy show. It was just between Michael and KITT rather than two human buddies. They cared about each other and had each other's backs. When each were injured or destroyed, the other was always concerned.

The 2008 series did not really make that aspect strong enough.

Agreed. They played the team aspect too much, especially with Sarah always hovering around.

Knight Rider (the original) had the line-up perfect IMO : Michael and KITT for most scenes, Devon and Bonnie/April for support and less screentime.

The team aspect of a crime fighting or law enforcement thing has become the thing nowadays, which is what I think they were trying to pull off with that reboot. Just a bunch of quirky hipsters doing their thing.

Victor Garber could've played Devon Miles if he weren't on Legends of Tomorrow. They should keep the original characters this time round instead of all the new characters in the 2008 reboot. Get an actress to play Bonnie as well.

If they want to change something up, they can just make Bonnie and April be girlfriends.

Agreed. I'd like an English actor again for Devon (although Edward Mulhare was Irish, he played it as an Englishman), part of his appeal as a character was his accent and ex-RAF background giving him that quaint upper-class vibe. He added a touch of class to the show and excelled at playing the more sombre raised-eyebrow counterpart to Michael's chirpy character.

Someone like Colin Firth would essentially embody a modern day version I guess.

David Hasslehoff wants Gunn to work on a Knight Rider reboot

David Hasslehoff made a memorable cameo in the film, with Ego morphing into the Baywatch star, a callback to the fact that Star-Lord always envisioned his dad as looking like him. Hasslehoff, who also recorded a song for the movie, was onhand during Heat Vision's interview with Gunn, and seemed keen for future collaborations — specifically one involving Knight Rider, his 1982-86 NBC show about a crime fighter with a futuristic car.
"I’ve given some ideas to James for Knight Rider and he responded in a big way. If it does go forward, I don’t want it to be spoofed like Baywatch or 21 Jump Street. Those films lose what it’s about and you have to respect the fans," said Hasslehoff.

I agree with him regarding that. Not every adaptation has to be a comedy spoof because the original was kinda campy.

Even though i love those Jump Street movies i do agree with him on having Knight Rider be more like the show. I actually think Gunn would be great for it.

After Baywatch, I don't think it's a good idea. I'd rather see Gunn do something totally new after Guardians 3.

Gunn is a good director, and was a huge fan of the show as a kid. He gets it. If anyone had to bring it back, I'm glad it's him. Hopefully they can get some backing for it to actually progress things.

Hasselhoff has said he wants back in the show, but it remains to be seen whether this would be as a cameo as Michael Knight, or playing a bigger role. He's 65 now, bound to be 67-78 by the time this thing actually gets off the ground and gets filmed, and I'm just not sure he could manage the physicality of such a role if playing a lead.

I guess if they were filming it as a successor to the original series, Michael Knight could now conceivably be head of either Knight Industries, or just FLAG - and still get his hands dirty from time to time.

SO... there seems to be a lot of different things going on with this...

Aug 9th, Hasselhoff Claims he approached James Gunn about directing and making this film.

Aug 22nd, just a week or so later, The Weinstein Company wants to make a Knight Rider show with John Cena as Michael, and Kevin Hart as the voice of KITT (I kid you flipping not) and want to make it a comedy. (With that cast, obviously)
Which, side note, this absurd type of remake was predicted early on in this thread:
How about KITT being a black HellCat SRT Charger, voiced by Cedric The Entertainer? Throw Will Ferrell in as Michael Knight and you can have your cliche White/Black fish out of water movie. Can we say groundbreaking? :D

Aug 23rd, the very next day, reveals more info, that Hasselhoff is interested in working on a reboot, but this time he apparently approached Robert Rodrigues to direct, and specifically talked about a final movie to the Knight Rider series, R-Rated, like Logan.

Also, what he actually told CinemaBlend sounds kinda like he really just ran into Robert Rodrigues, Rodrigues wanted a selfie, and Hasselhoff had probably recently seen Logan and was fantasizing about that type of movie for Michael Knight, and so he, in randomly bumping into Rodrigues, threw the idea out there... so not exactly a, "I'm working on this film" or even something that seems likely, regardless of how these things are being reported... which also leads me to think maybe his "talking with James Gunn" was more this casual type of talk, where theres not actually anything being worked on...

The article also afterward mentions that Machinima previously planned to produce a TV series with Justin Lin directing. (More of a action based film probably, like Fast and Furious, less focused on plot)

Is anyone else a bit confused? Also, most the more recent news is just people referencing that Kevin Hart is rumored for the voice of KITT in a Knight Rider reboot...
Which sadly makes that sound like the thing to most likely actually happen...

Confusion is an understatement.

A Kevin Hart knight rider movie sounds possible. It could be a quick cash grab that Hart will forget since he’ll be doing five more projects after knight rider.

Just please no Dwayne Johnson

There's no confusion really. It's a lot of different media outlets speculating on different scenarios with no actual concrete confirmations from anyone. And it sounds like Hasselhoff is, to his credit, throwing his Knight Rider ideas at anyone decent in the hope that it will stick and they'll take it on.Just the rumour mill in overdrive as normal.

I'll be convinced of something happening once there's a confirmation from a studio or production company. I just hope it's a serious take and not yet another comedy reboot of an 80s property.

On a sidenote, the original series is airing again from scratch in UK on Channel 5 Spike, I've been recording and rewatching them. It's cheesy and I'm spotting more production errors now in my old age, but by God it's still glorious.

When I read Kevin Hart I just kind of automatically assume a comedic take. I want a serious Knight Rider but if they absolutely, positively MUST make it a comedy, I would hope that Will Ferrell would get the nod over Hart -

I have an image in my mind of Ferrell as Michael Knight - same hair [80's style - big and volumous] and costume [tight red polo-neck, tight black leather jacket and jeans, oval cowboy belt, cowboy boots] as Hasselhoff's, but comedically playing on Ferrell's lack of shape [moobs and gut] as a nod to Hasselhoff's less then impressive physique in the show. Would be hilarious to see him double up as Garth Knight too.
Danny McBride as the voice of K.I.T.T.

As I say, I'd prefer a serious KR, but definitely the above over a comedic take with Hart.

I really hope they don’t go the 21 Jump Street/CHiPs/Baywatch route with this. I feel like the only way to bring those shows back was to make it a parody. But Knight Rider has the potential to be a ****ing thrill ride if they do it well. It can have a lot of humor but please, don’t make it a big joke.

Hopefully that Cena/Hart idea died with Weinstein’s career.

if they cannot get Daniels back to voice Kitt my choice would be Kelsey Grammer
