Knight Rider

Please, no Kelsey Grammer. I've been a very happy person since Frasier finally went off the air after all of its undeserved award nominations.

if they cannot get Daniels back to voice Kitt my choice would be Kelsey Grammer

Why would you want him? If anyone is more like KITT from Frasier, it's David Hyde Pierce. He has more of the prissiness to his voice like Daniels.

Great hearing his voice, but Wow that lame imitation theme-music speaks to how important "simple" things like securing the actual theme-music are. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbfVmzF7N4gI

But paying for a licence to use that music for just a few seconds of a commercial is extremely expensive, which is why many of these things just use imitation music. You can totally understand that for an advert.

But unfortunately, some films don't even pay to use the original theme music for a series if they're making a remake. Starsky and Hutch didn't, which is why we got some generic 70s funk theme music. And the A-Team only paid for a few seconds of it, which is why it barely featured at all.

I've been rewatching this classic series and even though the technology is somewhat dated. The design and functionality of Kitt was a head of its time and honestly I can't imagine anyone else replacing William Daniel's as the voice of K.I.T.T.

John Lithgow.

NBC tried to revive Knight Rider in 2008 with the limited TV series

It even had the Hoff reprising as the original Michael Knight. Unfortunately the series was no where as memorable as the classic original series .

Val Kilmer did an adequate job as the voice of K.I.T.T.

I love Knight Rider and would love something new to be done with it. I just don't know what you do with Knight Rider in 2021 and make it fresh, relevant, and successful.

The first minute or so of this would be great over a teaser trailer , I feel:

My favorite scenes from the pilot:

I really like the direction of the third clip. If they ever made a new movie, that's the one scene they'd definitely have to recreate. KITT's lights coming up from the darkness.

The original is very dated, but it's still a lot of fun. And it did a lot of cool things for a 1980s TV show and had some good stunts with the car and action.

I wish the other seasons did that alas it was only in the early first season eps. I have the entire series on blu ray and it is such cheesy fun. I really hope any movie can recall that same cheesy fun of the show if possible.

Oh and I would love to see something like this where car thieves try to steal the car LOL

Sorry I don’t think “one man can make a difference “ would fly with certain groups nowadays

I think we’d probably get a female version of Michael knight. Maybe another female KITT like knight rider 2010

Why is that?

I loved this show as a kid, and still rewatch it sometimes. It used to be on Tuesday evenings where I lived and I was glued to the screen. I remember watching Kitt vs Goliath and almost being in tears when Kitt got wrecked LOL

This is the problem. They tried taking it down some different avenues to recreate the magic of the original, but with new tech etc (Knight Rider 2000, Team Knight Rider, the 2008 Knight Rider show) and none really hit the mark.

We're also now in an era where a lot of the tech that KITT had doesn't seem so fantastical anymore - obviously not stuff like the turbo jumps and the molecular bonded shell, but we have self driving cars with radar, voice activated systems, touchscreens, cars that can hit 250mph, etc. I'm not sure a young viewer of today would be as amazed by KITT's tech as they were in the 80s. But if they try and up the ante by making KITT even more technologically amazing, the show risks falling into farcial territory.

The one thing I did like about Team Knight Rider was the variety of vehicles, but I think that show then fell down by having too many characters. I somewhat like the idea (although it has some flaws that would need worked out) of KITT being an AI that's not tied to one specific vehicle, but can be distributed to multiple ones. Not just any random car of course, but purpose built vehicles owned by the Knight Foundation. And Michael Knight would be a lone operative but would be able to select the kind he needs dependent on the mission - car, bike, off-road truck, etc. You even have the option then to have the original Trans Am cameo as a 'test car' or similar which they used for development.

Rather than giving Michael Knight the latest car on the market for a movie, they should give him the classic Pontiac from the 80s from the original series. It can be a vintage car that Michael drives, just like Bond drives a vintage Aston Martin DB5. No-one ever thinks that is outdated because everyone realises it's meant to be a classic car from another era.

The car driven in the 2008 series didn't have the same character as the original Kitt. Same with all these other cars used in these would-be pilots like KR 2000 etc.

Just read the sentence "One man can make a difference"

Hardly reflects todays standards. People would be up in arms. That's why I think casting a female is all but inevitable.

Well it's not saying that ONLY one man can make a difference but that one man is able to make a difference since he is a man after all and can make a difference. It doesn't exclude the fact that one woman is also able to make a difference.

If there happens to be a man around at the time and not a woman then it's that man who can make a difference at that time and doesn't need to wait for a woman to come along just to be politically correct. It's like if someone is drowning and only a man is around at the time, why should he wait for a woman or make sure to call one just to give her a chance at being a hero when the danger is imminent.

If they even re-use the tagline, they'll likely just change it to 'one person can make a difference'. Doesn't need to be any more complicated than that.

Star Trek did something similar when TNG in the late 80s altered the original 60s tagline "to go where no man has gone before" to "to go where no-one has gone before"

So we officially pretending Team Knight Rider never happened?

The thing I disliked most about that show is they forgot how important it is to have cool cars. The closest thing they had to car porn was the red Mustang, the rest were either science fiction vehicles that don't exist or dad vehicles you would use to drive your kids to football practice. Out of five cars for five characters they couldn't come up with one awesome sportscar for them to drive.

Deanna Russo from the 2008 series was beautiful and had these really blue, almost Tanya Roberts-like eyes:
