Dragon Ball: Ssawora Son Goku, Igyeora Son Goku
(Dragon Ball: Fight Son Goku, Win Son Goku)

unofficial live-action Korean film adaptation of the manga series Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama. It was directed by Ryong Wang and was released on December 12, 1990. The movie follows the original Dragon Ball story, and does so more closely than The Magic Begins. This live action adaption from Korea is adapting the events of the Emperor Pilaf Saga and a little of the Vegeta Saga as Nappa makes an appearance in this film.

All I can say is.... it's better than Dragonball Evolution and its pretty faitful as an adaptation. It's really corny and cheesy and a bit over the top that will leave you embarrassed watching it. But it's fun.

that is pretty horrible lol

why was goku 5'2 lol

asian anime live action is always too the top to take serious lol

Come on it's fun. They even played homage to the Goku slapping Bulma's coo coo for balls scene. :P

I honest-to-God would watch the entire thing if it had subtitles. But an hour-and-half of not know what the hell is going on is too much. Even for me :csad:.

Everything is better than Dragonball Evolution...

Yikes! People like to complain that Hollywood ruins their beloved franchises but other countries do it just as bad lol

Big difference is that they didn't even have the official rights to make a movie whereas 20th Century Fox did. They just didn't give a damn and needed to chuck something out during the writers strike.

I felt like Fox wasn't sure if they wanted to ground their adaption in the real world or not. On one hand we got a bad Oozaru and they kept Piccolo as an alien. On the other, Goku's a highschooler, Roshi lives in the middle of a city and the possibilities of beautiful landscape shots were lost.

I guess you never read the Dragonball manga of Goku's adventures when he was just a child? It's not just Super Saiyan all the time, at least not in the beginning.

However, I do wonder how the Koreans were able to make this movie without the movie rights. Won't they get sued by Akira Toriyama and his company?

TLA was worse than evolution imo strictly because i knew evolution would be horrible

They can just say they were adapting a Journey to a West. I know the Japanese are actually pretty lenient with stuff like this unlike Americans who would instantly sue although that has changed a bit more with time.

This movie is joins the list of how NOT to adapt Dragonball and a perfect example of following too closely to the material. I mean Puar, a puppet? And the nimbus cloud... what the heck was that. And why is Nappa in this?

I remember when they started releasing all those chinese knock off versions of Harry Potter.

I think JK Rowling tried to sue a couple of them.

There was also the fake Apple stores in china not too long ago. These kind of things go down all the time.

The problem is that aside from the name Son Goku and the fact that he's the Monkey King (and Goku in Dragonball can turn into a giant monkey), there isn't much similarities between Dragonball and JOTW except for characters that bear some physical resemblance to their Journey counterparts. At any rate, they probably figured that Toriyama won't bother to file a lawsuit, so they did it anyway.

lol Just started watching it. WTF@ Bulma shooting Goku because he wouldn't move from in front of her car. With a smile on her face at that. Atleast in the comic she only shot him because she was scared and he flipped her car over.

True.

What saddens me is the fact that we'll probably never see a good Dragonball/Z live action adaptation in our life time.

Let alone a good anime adaptation from Hollywood.

I'd venture a guess and say 5 foot 2 inches tall is probably about right for Goku as an adult in DBZ anyway. He is based primarily upon Asian male heroes. He's not going to be 6 foot tall. All those guys that appear to be 10 foot tall in DBZ are most likely 6 foot 6 inches. Guys that size always appear to be towering giants in Asian films. Look at the guy who played the wrestler Jet Li fights in Fearless, he's also in Muay Thai Giant. The guy is 6'11" but he looks much larger than that standing next to Jet Li, who is 5'6".

Goku as a kid in Dragonball would be like 4 foot something.

I seen parts of this before but like the us film bad.
