Kurt Sutter on Punisher: Warzone and why he doesn't want credit.

When a gallon of gas cost under a buck.

Kurt updated his Punisher blog for the last time and he wants you all to read it.

So, I have this little SutterInk blog. I have a thought, a gripe, a gratitude, I jot it down, let it go. I get maybe 15-25 hits a week. Mostly my Shield guys and a few Facebook friends who read it. I joke about my seven readers, but that's the ballpark I've been playing in. Last week, when I updated my friends about the Punisher project, I got 3500 hits in less than six hours. If I'm doing the math right, that's almost five years worth of readers between lunch and dinner. I forgot how big the marvel fanbase is. They live on the internet. I should have remembered. When Thomas Jane distanced himself from the project using my draft as the reason, my name was on hundreds of blogs. I was suddenly covered with the stink of past Punisher movies.

There's MUCH more at the link above please read it and comment in his blog.

I'm sure he was being funny...but maybe not. There was nothing in his original blog that would warrant that much anger from a fan but it's not beyond some of the people on here. LOL

I wrote earlier in November about how great kurt sutter was he's cool.
and I know wrote frank castle right.

I Love the shield!!! Vic mackey's character is awesome.

I put the clip here for those of you guys that haven't what the show

"...I read a shooting draft credited only to the film's director, Lexi Alexander, that was just godawful.

She may not have written it; for all I know, it was just a draft she added scene numbers to. But the "dry and formulaic" stuff Sutter's talking about is there. Makes Hensleigh's movie look like a classic.

Dialogue is grade-school. It's got a lot of weirdness that's supposed to pass for cutting-edge, like a group of Irish gangbangers that know Parkour, or "8 million cool ways to die," like breaking someone's arm then stabbing them in the heart with the bone that pops out. There's also Bullet Time. Yes. Bullet Time. So Sutter's probably wasn't a masterpiece, but if this is the shooting draft then his comments aren't too far off."

Heh, look at this....

Did he say Bullet time?

Man we should have got Keanu as the punisher that would have rocked!!! :yay:

What's wrong with that? That sounds cool to me, now I can't wait to see Punisher: Warzone. Even if Nolan directed the Punisher, it will never get the respect the character deserves. Why is anyone worried, we're not expecting an Oscar contender. What I am expecting is a no holds barred action flick with Ray killing and blowing $hit up.:unishr:

^^ i agree, that sounds badass.

irish gangbanger? that's from the comics.

and the parkour thing was mentioned already. i think it'd be sweet to see that in the film, and the punisher just blows em away.

what's wrong with bullet time? plenty of movies have done it well. i'm sure it won't be the matrix 4.

these things might be cliche or whatever the guy in the article was getting at, but criminals are full of cliches and that's excatly the world the punisher is dealing with. mobsters, violence, etc... sounds good! after 04, i'm glad we're getting a more action-oriented punisher film.

I hope your right, being that there was also a positive review on the first Punisher 2 draft by Latinoreview.com

Well, the dialog in Hooligans wasn't the greatest, so if Lexi did have a hand in writing it, I'd believe it's kinda bad.

Damn... More great news?
The bone thing sounds cool, I've daydreamed about doing that...
Bullet time... WTH?
Bad dialogue?

Although I'm no big fan of Jane's, and I think Stevenson fits the part better... It did seem too soon for a remake to be done, especially if not by Marvel...

If this bombs, we won't see another Punisher movie for a decade or more...

People are putting words in Sutter's mouth and exaggerating or making stuff up now on other websites. There's a bunch of headlines that say Sutter thinks the movie is lame or sucks, and dismal. He never said anything like that. It's easy to take one sentence out of context and make things appear any way you want.

You know what, the bone thing sounds awesome. I mean you build up these ruthless villains like Pitsy/LBJ/Ink, you build them up as physco-path murderers, then you get Frank to stroll along and kill them in the most twisted way possible. Imagine Frank does it to LBJ... this is exactly how I see it..

LBJ swipes his knife at Frank, Frank catches LBJ's arm and twists it into a standing armlock, Frank puts pressure on LBJ's elbow, LBJ's forearm bone rips out of the flesh, Frank impales its into LBJ's heart.

Would work as long as its not done in a slapstick sort of way, but I don't think Lexi would resort to slapstick (think Greenstreet).

I'm as accepting of absurd violence as the next guy, but how do you NOT make that slapstick? How do you make a scene with a man ripping a bone out of another man and killing him with it a serious scene?

How is that even possible for a man to do? dislocate or break, but actually rip the bone off the muscles and tendons and stab someone with it. :whatever:

If that's in it, I'm walking out of that damn theater and demanding my money back.

I'm not going to worry about a review of a movie that's not even out yet. :whatever:

As for the "slapstick" argument, I don't know if you've read a Punisher comic, but that stuff happens in the comics all the time and is the kind of dark humor that makes the books so good. Yes, they are realistic mostly, but Frank manages to do over-the-top things quite often.

For instance, picking up a little Chinese man by his feet and swinging him around, smashing him into desks and the like until he dies.

Close the door on the way out. ;)

Nope, I'm leaving the theater door wide open so the light will wash out the screen that way the few people that will be in theater don't have to see anymore of the crap that will probably be on the screen. :oldrazz:
