Yeah, I'm about 2 hours in, and while I like it a lot, I can see a lot of people being turned off by it.

Fantastic so far, I was just promoted for the first time... so I'm not to far in.. but it's just sooo good so far. I love this change of pace.

And man, the facial animation is out of this world.

the problem with the facial animation is that they don't look right on the bodies. The faces are so amazing looking and the bodies and bodily animations just don't look right sometimes.

I was thinking the same thing when I first started playing. The bodies don't look quite right, almost cartoony at time and dis-proportioned. But the faces and the expressions look amazing.

Its an adventure game, its a very fun one for sure with some great production values but ultimately aside from the facial animations I don't think its going to turn too many heads GOTY time.

And that's fine honestly, its nice to see people handling the genre on a mainstream level other than Telltale. I'm about 5 hours in and I definitely don't regret my purchase at all. Its a lot like playing the cop parts of Law and Order, just set in the 40's.

I was thinking the same thing, all my time of watch Law and Order has helped with this. I just like the fact that i have to think a bit. I love catching someone in a lie when i know i have the evidence that proves otherwise.

Yea i can agree with that. I think its a little hit and miss. There was one scene where your partner from Homicide was leaning on table and he made some gesture and it was absolutely spot on and i just had to lean back and go 'wow' and then there are other times where im taken out of the experience because the animation just didnt sync up.

Also, and i know its slightly off topic overall, i like Cole Phelps and all, but i think Rockstars other protagonist, John Marston is one of my favorite characters in gaming. He's deff in my top 10. I guess i expected to take to Phelps the way i took to Marston.

Did you guys turn on "black and white"? It kind of makes the body issue vanish.

Nah, while a neat touch, I couldnt play the whole game in black and white. I can't even sit through a black and white tv show.

I reckon i'll save B and W for second playthrough. Picking this up tomorrow, so pumped.

just started the third disc...so far...its tied for my favorite game besides red dead redemption
the murder cases were amazing!!!

^^ Good to know! So far, it's the best game of 2011, IMO. It's not on the same level as RDR for me, tbh, but it's still great.

Can't get past the first mission cause there's a HUGE glitch that's causing my PS3 to suddenly switch off whenever it tries to save my progress during that mission. I'm able to turn the system back on just fine, and it works fine with all my other films and games, just not this one. Looked it up online and it turns out I'm not the only one having this EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Fortunately, Rockstar's aware of this and they're gonna release a patch to try and fix it soon, but right now they're currently investigating this glitch further. Anyone else having this issue?

^^ I have it on the Xbox 360, so I can't really answer that, but Rockstar has been very trustworthy with releasing patches to fix glitches. There have been game ocmpanies at there that don't bother to fix gltiches, and even when they release a patch, some times the company doesn't even fix the glitch. The only big glitch Rockstar never worked out was the pigeon achievement in GTA IV.

Just wanted to put that out there, lol.

I'm a little disappointed in the b/w filter. It looks OK, but it doesn't look as high-contrasty as I wanted it to, especially after the tease that is the main menu. There's also no in-game option for contrast, just brightness.

So, while a neat option, I don't think I'll ever play the game with it on for more than a few minutes.

If it's just the first mission, maybe you can delete your save and the install data from your PS3 and start over.

Not quite like this. I dunno how to explain it properly but it's much different than those Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew games on the PC.

Yeah, I've tried out some the other Detective games and this one does do it's own thing. Mostly, I think, because Bondi was allowed to do what they wanted and not cut corners.

There's been a port of Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper for the 360. Reviews I've read seemed pretty positive, since it's a budget title. Apart from that, the CSI games, Heavy Rain, and Batman Arkham Asylum have been the games I can think of on console that hits the 'Tec button.

I think Condemned did too. When you weren't beating the **** out of hobos with crowbars.

I'm not really liking the lack of a waypoint system while I'm driving.

Yeah, but what kinda makes up for that is asking your partner. Try asking your partner (pressing X on the 360...I guess square on the PS3) and he'll tell you if you should make a turn or keep going straight.

I know it's not ideal, but maybe messing around with the contrast on your TV can get you the desired effect? That might work.

I'm not playing with B&W on during my first playthrough, I just switched it on to check it out and I was pretty impressed. I'll have it on the whole way through on my second playthrough.

I hope the B&W is good. Like 3D, converting something from colour to black-and-white or vice versa requires some effort, making sure characters or clothes or backgrounds don't blend into each other.

Not quite. If the lighting is handled properly (which in 99% of proffesional cases is true), then converting to black and white really isn't an issue. For example, take any proffessional picture into photoshop and convert to black and white. There won't be a problem. Simple as that.

I'm really loving the detective stuff and how it isn't all just laid out for you, unless you use the intuition points to do so. Even though I've wrongfully accused several people on certain questions, it's really fun. Like someone else said earlier, it's cool to call certain people out on their BS when you have the evidence to back it up.

Solved the hit and run, and got a perfect score. I'm finally getting good at picking up on the slight nuances that the people make during the interviews. Right now, I'm on the case with the 2 girls in the car accident and the alleged rape of the younger one.

I can't believe I'm talking about a game...

Couple quick questions about the game for those that have a few hours into it.

Is there a lot of cussing? Nudity?

Don't think there's nudity...although I heard something about a victim being found naked in one case. There's cursing. Hell, there are racial slurs in the first hour of the game.

I'm 3 cases into homicide and every victim is naked.

I'm pretty sure this is leading up to catching a serial killer, coz the evidence has been too neat so far.

And as for cussing, yeah. But it's not over the top or anything. :o

About as much cussing as you can expect from the 1940s. And as much as people would lead you to believe otherwise, they cussed just as much, if not more than we do now.
