That title may go through a few changes before it hits shelves I think.

Basically taking place in 1936 Shanghai as L.A. Noire took place in......not really sure where.

Pretty exciting idea I think. I had a soft spot for L.A. Noire while I know a lot of others hated it. To be fair, I don't think I'd be able to see this through if it was another interrogations/chase/shootout repeat affair.

Yea I don't see that title sticking, someone, somewhere, is gonna make a big fuss about it

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say.......this game's going to rated M.........lol

and yeah, the name's probably going to be changed.

I can just imagine the look on your mom, wife or gf's face when you call up Gamestop and ask if ****e of the Orient is in..........

Then to add to the racism assume it's that one asian chick that works there.

lol.

and it will probably be very awkward asking for the game in person too, especially when the salesperson is a girl.......who is asian..........

They need to make it so that you can fail cases this time. The fact that ultimately a case would be solved regardless of how well you did or didn't do removed all tension. Also, being able to make deductions through evidence combination or deductions based on observation (Condemned 2 style) would help make the gathering process more than just a pixel hunt.

I'm interested and not just cause of the likely temporarily title!

I hope it's not a temporary title. "The ****e of the orient" was the nickname for Shanghai in the 30s.

What racism?

Sounds exciting. Hopefully it'll take the good from L.A Noire and leave the bad in the dust.

Exactly.

LA Noire was a great game; it's just that it lacked replay value in that once you solved a mystery, there's obviously no reason to go back and replay it since you already know the outcome. That, and the fact that the excellent writing was hampered by a pointless overarching story that tried to link all the individual cases together....woulda been better to just let each case stand on its own, like good mystery novels and detective shows/films do.

But yeah, color me excited about Shanghai '36 as well....sounds awesome, and I'm getting a Bogart vibe already. Hopefully, they learn the lessons from LA Noire and this time give the player more free rein.

I agree, LA Noire was good, but only up to a certain point. The fact that the case missions began to feel repetitive and the lack of anything to do outside of them was what really bothered me. I knew it wasn't going to be like a GTA game, but I wished that there was more to do with the environment, especially since the map was pretty big.

To be honest when I heard it was an adventure game and not a free roam game that actually piqued my interest. The problem is that the cases all followed the same format way too strictly so about halfway through the murder desk I felt like the cracks were beginning to show.

My biggest fear was that it would be more like Mafia II, which was a good game set in a similar time period, but was set up in more of a chapter based format and had an open world that wasn't very open. I trusted Rockstar's involvement, but it pretty much ended up being everything I was afraid of. I liked it, but it could've been so much better, especially for a game that was in development for so many years.

Agreed the face tech was amazing but they kind of rested the entire game on that and it just wasn't able to carry it after the initial wow factor wore off.

Sounds interesting. Wonder what kind of game it will be exactly.

I don't know i was super excited for LA Noire and the game was kind of meh. Never actually ended up finishing it, will at some point i guess.

I wound up mostly enjoying LA Noire. Basically they've earned enough favor from me to ensure that they get a benefit of a doubt from me.

**** that sounded super *****ey.

Anyways, hope they keep the name. I know there's no way in hell they do, but damn, it sounds so cool.

I wouldn't say LA Noire was a bad game, but I personally consider it a disappointment simply because I felt like it was advertised to be a game that it ultimately wasn't, and I don't mean that it was supposed to be like GTA in the 50's or anything. I remember seeing the first trailer and being really excited about about all of the film noir aspects and how it was going to mimic a lot of those things in the same way that Uncharted mimics action films.

But after playing through the game a few time to get the Platinum and through all of the DLC cases, it hit me that there were really that many instances in the game where I felt like they kept up that motif. Aside from the opening of each mission and some of the music heard while driving and in the club scenes, I felt like they didn't do anything visually in the presentation to separate themselves from GTA or RDR. Gameplay and story aside, I think that's what bothered me most and left me more disappointed because I didn't really see anything in the style that seemed to capture what they had the made the game seem like it would be.

You mean, other than the option to play the whole game in black & white instead of color....? *koff koff* :cwink:

Black & white was cool as hell, and really did immerse me in the genre a helluva lot more.
