Lady Sif Casting Thread (Jaimie Alexander)

I guess Marvel is doing a Sif spin-off of Thor, Here's the cover art.

It's just a one-shot. It's mostly because of the spotlight on female heroes Marvel's been doing for the past month or two. Looks pretty good, though; Beta Ray Bill's involved. :D

I have a $100 bet with a friend to see who goes longest without a twitter. When I made the bet I didn't know about Jaimie and Conan O'Brien didn't have one yet.

yea i personally dont care for twitter myself. I do enjoy going to certain folks twitter pages for news and what not posted there.

I don't have enough interesting stuff going on to justify a Twitter account. Also, it seems like a lot of work.

I'd be upset if that were Sif's movie costume. I sure as hell would not take a warrior who's mostly naked seriously. :o

I like the costume, but I'd really like a longer skirt. Sif is a warrior, not a ****e.

Okay so I understand the whole she's a warrior she should be dressed thing, but as a warm blooded male, I can never utter the words "I wish they would put more clothes on her".

well doesnt the character wear skimmpy outfits like that all the time in the comics. i dont see why it needs to be to different for the film and most of the asgardians have strength and invul and all that right. So it doesnt really matter what they are wearing right.

No, actually Sif is usually one of the most covered-up women in comics. One of her earliest costumes was actually a solid white suit that covered her from neck to toe. Most of the time since the '80s she's worn something roughly like this:

And now that she's back, she wears either this or civilian clothes (she's living with Don Blake in Broxton since Thor's been exiled from Asgard):

ah ok thanks i dont read thor books so i dont know how the characters or looks are.

Basically, if she's wearing red and/or white and her costume looks practical for a warrior, I'll be fine. I'm a little worried about exploitation, given that the sword-and-sorcery tradition's biggest female name is Red Sonja (who's quite a bit more than half-naked), but I suppose if they're gonna go that route, there's nothing I can do about it. I just hope they handle her characterization well.

I'm paranoid that Sif will be screwed over in favor of Jane Foster, since Jane's being played by the better known Natalie Portman & Sif is being played by the relatively unknown Jaimie Alexander. Who do you think will be getting the bigger chunk of screen time? :csad:

i am sure sif and jane will probably both be decent time/development spent on both.

I'm pretty sure Jane will get a bigger role. The likeliest scenario I see is that Sif will be an ex from Asgard and Jane will be the person who teaches Thor about humanity. There'll be a bit of a love triangle but ultimately Thor will choose Jane, symbolically choosing a link to humanity rather than returning to Sif and the aloofness of the other gods.

But that's all speculation.
Jane is also a bigger character than Sif (sadly).
Looks like she will be in the movie. She's really, really, really not in the comics, though. Jane barely appeared in Thor's comics at all for the last 15 years or so, and she was married and had a kid with another dude until JMS' run. Sif's always been around.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Sad, really. How much do you want to bet, depending on how successful Thor is at the box office, that Jane will become ridiculously prominent in the comics just to satisfy new fans who know of Thor only through the film?
