For people who don't know, Last.fm is a musical networking site with 21 million active users based in more than 200 countries.

Basically you make a profile and download a program called the Last.fm scrobbler. It's kind of like MSN as it hides in your task bar (until you double click it) and every time you listen to music it 'scrobbles' it onto your music profile.

It's really neat because you get to see charts of your musical history, and then it recommends new bands for you based on what you've been listening to.

AKA it's a great way to chat with people who like the same music as you as well as learn about a whole bunch of new bands who are amazing. And a good place to learn about upcoming events!

That reminds me of pandora. It would recomend a ton of music for you based on one band that you liked.

I will definitely check this out though

this may seem like a silly question but when you add a specific track to your library does it add all songs by that artist or just the one song? is there a way to sort your library by tracks added versus artists added?

I thought it was a thread about us hypesters finding each other in last.fm :hehe: yeah, I've been there since late 2005

^
So did I. I was all ready to give out my profile addy :o

I'll check first. Not interested in having religious wackos and/or racist ***** as friends in my last.fm :)

i'm thinking about looking into this but i was wondering if yall who already use it could tell me some stuff about it.

- do i have to download anything
- pros
- cons
etc

thanks

You don't HAVE to download anything. If you don't its basically a social website with a radio station. If you do download the Scrobbler it keeps track of what and how often you play things. Keeps a nice tally for you. For instance I've played 26,970 songs using the Scrobbler (and there was about two years where I didn't use it...). I've played Eric Clapton songs 1,642 times. My most played individual track is The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps with 68 plays.

I like using the scrobbler to listen to music sometimes. It's a program you download and it opens every time you use itunes... However, you can pause your itunes. Then the scrobbler has a box where you can type in any artist and it starts playing music that is by that artist and similar to that artist. It's a great way to find out about new bands you'll probably enjoy

i would except im embarassed by the music i listen too. it's just me and my shyPod. :o:csad:

*bump* maybe someone else is on that site now..?

really can't get into it. i think i'll just stick with pandora. lastfm is loads better thab jango, though.

My new cellphone lets me log on to Last.fm, so I'm going to register with it soon. I like the idea of listening to the radio station whenever I go. I'm also interesting to know what kind of songs it will recommend to me once my profile is developed.

Just signed up to Last.fm, so I haven't used it much yet. But here's my profile if you want to know what your music compatibility with me is like:

Btw, is it possible to edit out some of the artists off your library? I put in one that I kind of regret later, but I'm not sure how to get rid of it on my list.
