It's funny how life works. I just got off the phone with Kellvin, who was telling me all about his visit to The Transformers set in downtown Los Angeles. Of course, when I heard about all the cool **** he saw, I was a bit jealous. All right, maybe a bit more than a bit, but you know, words can only do so much. I took some time to try and envision Broadway shut down with all the prop-damage and production chaos that movie sets look like. And then I got an email and envision no more! The Malachi Brothers performed a Malachi Crunch for us! They not only got us some set photos, but also video!
So we got your first look at Jazz, the Pontiac Solstice. That car looks tight! We also have a look at Tyrese in battle garb and Bumble Bee and Ironhide and Ratchet!
The shots are amazing and the video does a great job of showing us the scale of the project! After seeing this stuff, I threw my Transformers Refrigerator magnet I picked up at Comic-Con on my car bumper. Let's see how long it stays on there before someone rips it off.
Thanks guys, you can send us stuff anytime!
Here is what they had to say:
Hola Boys,
I was driving through downtown Los Angeles on Sunday and came across a huge, and I mean HUGE movie set on Broadway. It took up the whole block between 8th and 9th Streets. I pulled over when I saw the flashing traffic warning signs warning about explosions and gunfire. I like explosions and gunfire, so of course, I had to pull over to have a look see.
To my surprise, it turned out to be The Transformers! So I called my brother, because hes a huge Transformers fan, and he came down with a couple cameras. After all, its not every day you can actually contribute to something cool to the internet. So we split up and tried to get as much as we could.
I got a couple snaps of Tyrese in his red beret. My bro got a couple shots of some Transformers. Two of which weve seen online, but the grey car there is new I think. The Hummer Search and Rescue Vehicle Truck is new too, I think. Im not sure though, so youll have to double-check that.
There were a ton of security guards walking around, but we tried to be sneaky and got some cool video of some street devastation. The video doesnt do justice to what the special effects people did. We saw them set the whole thing up from bare street. They placed a bunch of black Styrofoam pieces around to look like a crater. Then they took a crane and placed some beat down cars on some metal braces to make it seem like they were blasted out of the craters. It looked absolutely amazing! The video gives you an idea about the size of the devastation. Toward the end of the video, youll see some footage of Bumble Bee Camaro and the Ratchet Truck.
We caught a couple scenes. The first one was a shot of Tyrese jumping out of a black assault vehicle and looking up in the air. I imagine what the scene will be is the Autobots and the Decepticons facing off here, with Tyrese and the assault teams on the same side with the Autobots. Tyrese and Co., Ratchet (rescue vehicle), Bumble Bee (Yellow Camaro), Ironhide (Black GMC 4X4 truck) and Jazz (Grey Sports Car, the latest Pontiac Solstice) come racing down to a showdown as the Decepticons take off into the air.
Another scene involved an exploding Truck. It looked like an old Pepsi truck with Furbys painted on the sides. I imagine one of the Autobots actually has a head-on collision with the Pepsi/Furby Truck because they set up the Truck on a lift so it when it gets hit, it flies head over end with a huge explosion. The security pushed us all back so we couldnt find a place where we could get a shot. I tried to climb on top of one of the buildings, but they shut down the majority of the buildings in the area. They were using a lot of green smoke for some reason. I assume this means something because why not just use regular smoke?
Well, I hope you guys find this useful. If you put up up, call us The Malachi Brothers!
