If Ledger's interpretation of the Joker gets its much desired Oscar nomination... which clip you think they would play in the awards ceremony?
It must be a sequence of the movie that shows, above all the others, why he deserves that Oscar nomination even as a posthumous homage.

My ideas about which clips could be played are:

- The "Why So Serious" speech.
- Going in circles around Rachel and telling her the fake story about his wife.
- The interrogation scene, with the whole "They're only as good as the world allows them to be..."
- He sitting in the floor provoking the cop in the interrogation room and talking about the cops he had killed.
- The hospital scene, where he is telling Dent that he is an 'agent of chaos'...

Those are my top fives... which are yours?

If he is nominated, Think it will just be a combination of clips, like a Joker trailer...

If i could pick one, probably the interregation scene....

As far as I know, they always use one single scene in the Oscars, right before announcing who's the winner, as they present every nominee.

how about lets worry about him being nominated first...

This is a good question. I'm curious to see which moment people think sum up Ledger's performance. What about the mob meeting? The why so serious scene may be deemed a little too disturbing to be broadcast on national TV.

Either the interrogation or the upside-down speech. My favourite Joker scenes.

We're all the worried about that. Check. Now we can get back to imagine what would it be.

If that's the way you think, don't even check out the Sequel Threads. People there have "full-throttle speculation".

Cool thread. :word:

For some reason, I can see the Oscars playing a snippet of the scene between the Joker and Rachel, when he's describing what happens to his wife who got in deep with the sharks. For me, that has to be some of the most powerful acting in the movie...

I think it'll be the Dent speech but they were all really good.

i'd select the following:

- The Why So Serious Speech
- Interrogation scene: "They're only as good as the world allows them to be"...
- Sitting in the interrogation room floor: "You can't savour all the... little emotions."...
- Conversation with Dent: "You know the thing about chaos... it's fair."...

the Sitting At the Integration Room scene ("You can't savour all the... little emotions."...) to me personally its the most powerful performance from Ledger, its a bit lengthy and the full impact of the performance wont really hit the viewer till the end of the scene. while the earlier Interrogation scene "They're only as good as the world allows them to be"... was pretty powerful but the focus isnt solely on him, he gets flung around by Bale's Batman, and is also pretty long so that really wont do. the scene with Dent at the hospital is also quite compelling but i dont think is strong enough to deliver the impact that a short soundbyte is after.

of all these, the Why So Serious speech is the most iconic and would probably get played at the awards. its short enough but powerful enough to justify why he should get the award.

The scene where he stands his ground against the Batpod, screaming at Batman.
So much like the comics and so brilliant to see on screen.

Most pointless thread in the history of mankind!
uhhh...ive seen alot worse....in fact this is actually one of the better threads compared to "things we like about TDK" "cool scenes in TDK" etc....this is actually different...but should prolly be in the non spoiler.

Id pick the intense interrogation scene where joker gets thrown all around the room and then gets punched in the face and laughs...you could just feel the creepiness which easily became my favorite scene...
either that or the convo with dent

I wouldn't count "this town deserves a better class of criminal" or the pencil scene out.

The pencil scene is really the strongest Joker moment cuz it's like "woah....that ain't Jack Nicholson...."

Which really is so powerful to do that. It set his character for the rest of the movie. he says one thing, and does another that is totally unexpected.

not for nothing but this is a valid thread IMO, and I didn't even start it. Aside from a "Who can contend against Ledger for an oscar?" thread, there's really not much more you can discuss about it and since we're so news-lacking why shouldn't we speculate? Yeesh.

Close call between "Why So Serious speech" and "They're only as good as the world allows them to be" simply because both are vastly impressive in their own unique way.

I voted for the Why So Serious speech, but I fully expect the interrogation scene to be used if/when he is nominated.

Not really, Ledger has been talked about being nom'd by alot of the media and cast. It's not too far out there to say he could get it.

Besides it's a fun thread. if someone wanted to ask what clip RDJ would get if he was nominated then it wouldn't be that bad. This is the same thing, yet slightly more topical than the "what was ur fav Joker scene" thread.

Either the Joker talking to Dent in the hospital or the upside-down speech. These two scenes not only showcase Heath's great performance but also the inner workings of his character's mind.

Seriously though, the "Why So Serious" (Pun intended) scene is the one they would probably use. Maybe.

Exactly
