The Dark Knight Ledger's 'possible' nomination clip...

Which Joker scene should be played in a possible posthumous nomination for Ledger?

  • The "Why So Serious" speech...

  • Arriving at the party and threatening the guests...

  • Walking around Rachel/Scarred wife story...

  • Interrogation scene: "They're only as good as the world allows them to be"...

  • Sitting in the interrogation room floor: "You can't savour all the... little emotions."...

  • The "This City deserves a better class of criminal" scene...

  • Conversation with Dent: "You know the thing about chaos... it's fair."...

  • His final speech while he's hanging up: "Madness, as you know, is like gravity..."

  • Other...

My favorite is probably the scene where Joker kills the fake batman...that whole "Im a man of my word" stuff is creepy.

His final speech would be a fitting tribute clip IMO.

His final speech would be a fitting tribute clip IMO.
Except we're talking about nomination clips. For a tribute thingy, they already showed a couple scenes from Brokeback Mountain.

If you worked at the Academy and could choose Heath's highlight reel that is shown when they give examples of each actor's work, which would you choose?

I have thought about this a lot, anticipating his Oscar nod. And I know that length is a factor. It can't be too long, just enough.

If length was not a factor, i would choose it begin with "we're not intimidated by thugs!" and end at "a little fight in ya, I like that." cut.

So that is probably too long a timespan for a clip.

So maybe I recommend it begin with "Well, you look nervous. Is it the scars?" until ""I like that". cut.

That particular Joker scene captivates me every time. I think the reels shown so far at these events have been light. They need to show some of the harder more immersive Heath in the role.

My choices:

1. At the mob boss meeting in the beginning
2. The interrogation scene

Joker's speech about mankind.

"Don't talk like one of them. You're not! To them, you're just a freak. Like me! You see, their morals.. their CODE, it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. You'll see, when the chips are down.. these, uh.. these civilized people.. they'll eat each other."

When Joker says 'they're only as good as the world allows them to be.." you can really sense the resentment and disgust he feels towards humanity. This scene sums up the Nolan's Joker as a whole and is one of Heath's best moments in the film.

"How about alive?" The way he describes the story about his scars to Gambol is incredible. "Laughing while he does it...he doesn't like that, not one bit..." or the scene where he's talking to the Batman wannabe. That scene is tour de force all the way. From playful clown to demonic badass.

His little speech with Gambol or Rachel. Either or.

These are some of my favorites.

"I believe whatever doesen't kill you, simply makes you stranger."

"Why so serious/Let's put a smile on that face."

"Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push"

"You. You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever."

What about the scene where Bruce and Alfred are watching him scare the crap out of and kill Brian Douglas right before he tells Batman to unmask? It only lasts a minute, yet it perfectly captures what Ledger brought to the character.

They're going to use the money-burning scene, I guarantee it.

What? Ledger was nominated for Sparrow, gotta check that out because I would remember something like that, but if he was, the Ledger of course has to receive a nomination BY LAW.

this is sig worthy HAHAHAHAHAHA

btw, i say interrogation room before batman goes ape-**** (from "dont talk like one of them" to "im just ahead of the curve")

For the Oscars, I hope they use the "This town deserves a better class of criminal"

or maybe a bit of the "Why so serious" story to Gambol, because of how terrifying it is :shock

I'd go with the Rachel scar story. Whenever he says "She can't stand the sight of me!" ...Man. Chills.

Definitely Joker circling Rachel with the scar story. The most intense moment of Joker in the film.
