Lee Bermejo and Brian Azzarello's Joker Graphic Novel

I agree with you on many points CC.
I actually thought this was the kind of Joker we were going to see in The Dark Knight.
But in a way, I'm glad it wasn't.

I have to strongly strongly strongly disagree. I believe that this was the ***** slap to knock fans of the Joker down a peg or two. It is like someone telling all those people who love Che Guevera that he was a disgusting murderer as well. It is an almost reality check that tells someone, this is a disgusting individual and you shouldn't admire him. It is made clear with Johnny's admiration of the Joker. He wanted to be like him but in the end is back stabbed by the Joker. It is like all the kids in Batman Beyond who wanted to be the Joker but when the real thing came into town they realized he was insane and deeply regreted it.

This book I believe is a great response for all those Joker fans out there who believe that if Joker was real he would be buddy buddy with them. No, the Joker would use them and kill them any chance he got. I see it also as making fun of those people who like to think they are evil but when it really comes down to it they are just cowards in the true face of evil.

Great post:up:

I agree with you 100%. However, I think it's funny when people love and admire The Joker. To me, that's part of the whole joke. The same way I laugh when I see ********s in Che Guevara shirts. He shouldn't have taken away his charisma to prove that point, though. Let the people that get it, get it.

exactly.

i do however think joker's charm is still present although its mostly presented through jonny jonny's words and thoughts. he is not meant to seem very charming to us, the reader.

and yeah, i think the glass in his hand was left over from the accident.

I think Joker is suppose to shown as a monster instead of the charmer and that's what I like about this book

Unfortunately you can't take away the charm for people to realize it. Many of the fans of the Joker see him with such rose tint glasses that they can't help it. It takes drastically changing the character to take away that unfamiliarity and look at it in a new way, that was one reason why this was not a popular book because it took fans out of the comfort zone.

i didn't like the book.
just boring imo, but interesting interpretations of the characters.

This is cliche to say, but I still think the best Joker characterization is Ledger's in TDK

One thing that has always bothered me: The cover, in relation to the story --
Why is the cover have classic Joker smile while, in the comic, it is most definitely a glasgow/chelsea smile??

Yeah, which is great, except he didn't feel at all like an insane clown. Just some mob gangster. Where the hell is the purple coat? He didn't even dress like the Joker.

I have to agree. Of all the interpretations of The Joker, I enjoyed Heath's the most. It's not cliche to say, his part was well written and well acted, what's there not to like about it? He did a good job.
I like DKR's Joker, TAS Joker, Azzerallo/Bermejo's Joker, Nicholson's Joker and Bolland's/Moore's Joker. They are all great representations of the character, but I personally found Heath's the best. He had great balance. He was interesting, creepy, funny, strange, ackward, disgusting, hilarious...he had the mix.

Yeah, which is great, except he didn't feel at all like an insane clown. Just some mob gangster. Where the hell is the purple coat? He didn't even dress like the Joker.

I also see what you are saying and agree to a certian point. I felt his outfit was just fine, but you are right in saying he was just a mob gangster. He was just a dirty, scumbag, rude, jerk with clown make-up (which was an interesting take) but that is not Joker. The Joker is known as the Joker for a reason. He is humerous, he messes with you, and is entertaining when he does it.

So I can see where everyone is coming from on this arguement. Both sides have valid points. Joker would be a messed up bastard not to mess with in real life.

But that doesn't matter, because in this book he is shown drinking, poppin pills, raping girls. He just seemed like a bad guy. He didn't seem like The Joker.

cant sleep. tomorrow i go free.

i guess not. not to mention the physical "gags". i thought he was still very much the joker although from a very specific point of view.

I saw him as a clown, also he dressed like one also. Ruffles are one addition that should be a new addition to the Joker.

I am currently in search for an artist willing to partake in, with me, an idea I have for a joker epic. I have recently read Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo's Joker and was mostly disappointed, it was a good story but it just wasn’t joker. Thus began my quest to write the story I wanted to read, and now all that remains is for an artist to bring my dream to life. If you are interested at all email me at [email protected] and I will send you some of my ideas and the drafts I’ve written. Thank you and I hope my artist will be you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
