Lee Bermejo and Brian Azzarello's Joker Graphic Novel

Anyone think that maybe he called him Abner just for the hell of it? Not everything has a "wink wink nudge nudge" connection.

that would be too much of a coincidence. People don't just think up names like "Abner" out of the blue. And this connection works (a fat, grotesque man who does the Joker's bidding)

lol have you seen some of the names people give their children? There's much stranger names out there and they're bestowed both in real life and fiction all the time, man. I'm just putting it out there that not everything has a connection, and I personally think this is one of them.

decided to do some coloring...

printed out a few copies of the original, did a few color studies, did the final with colored pencils, scanned it back in.

I like your coloring job, but i'm not crazy about that picture. Its almost too "ugly": the uneven eyes and the ridiculous lips are a bit over the top

I like that look, the Joker looks as ugly as he acts.

x2. The way it's drawn in the actual book is much better. That drawing is gross. Just as a piece of art, not gross like skinning someone. :cwink: The lips look terrible, above all.

Yeah, nice job on the coloring, Bermejo just ruined it with the hideous lips.

Heh, I spelled hideous as "hidious". Thanks alot, Palpatine.

Excuse me if I'm slow, or if it has already been answered in here...

But what was the deal with the Rabbit joke?

I didn't get it.

He's telling Croc to blow him. Look at it carefully and it'll all make sense. :cwink::woot:

lol@ how obvious is was but me not getting it until I read this explanation... Thanks.

Anyways, yeah, I loved this book. Not "better" than "The Killing Joke"(and I'm not talking about that recolor crap), but it's right up there.

I'd rank it as a close Second to "The Killing Joke", above "The Man Who Laughs".

Loved the gritty, almost dirty feeling tone of the story. And I can't quite say why, as he is dispicable, but I really liked this Joker. lol

I enjoyed this Book alot.

HARLEY QUINN
“Visually, I threw her in a vinyl outfit and made her look as much like a junkie as possible. Harley Quinn is like a stripper to me. I don’t want to know her name, I don’t want to hear about her life, and I sure as hell don’t want her to talk. Just dance, baby…”

That was...incredibly corny.

i know, i liked this book in that it is different, told from the villains goons pov

The Joker was interesting in bits, but I found him to be a lot less charismatic than most other versions of the character, including Heath's, which has always been part of the Joker's charm to me.

Did anyone else notice the Joker exhibiting flat-out omniscience in the book?

"That shovel you have..."

"You have a dollar in your pocket..."

There might be other examples, those stuck out most to me.

Bermejo: "Yeah, regarding the Abner thing, I have NO idea what Brian was going for there. I think he just wanted to try and establish the fact that there is history between these guys, that they have a relationship that isn't completely explored in this book. I'm guessing Abner is just a nickname or something. Doesn't Penguin look like an Abner, though?"

Maybe Brian was thinking of the pig, who knows? But the name is not important.

I found this to be.. well.. :( I was excited at first because I loved Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, but this was just, idk. The Joker didn't feel like the Joker, he felt like Tony Montana with a Glasgow smile.

I agree that the Joker wasn't the same, but the story and character were well made regardless, however far it strayed.

I need to re-read this again. I'm still luke warm about it.
