Left 4 Dead

gr..

are they still under you're control? ..or do they run off to places they shouldnt?

They're totally independent of you, except that they tend to follow you pretty closely. But kez is right, they're ridiculously good at a lot of things, especially healing and reviving. They'll heal you with their health pack even if they've only got like 2 health left, and they'll revive you if you're incapacitated practically before you even knew you were down. They're just not quite as good in a firefight as a really good human being and, again, you've basically gotta take point all the time because they just follow you.

finally got the game.. it is indeed awesome.

i hope i wont get bored of it lol

Depends on who ya play with. I hopped online the other day and was playing with this one dude who you woulda swore was actually being attacked by zombies. I mean he was screaming and cussing and just generally panicking. It was a f'ing riot. That was really, really fun.

This game is so fun online if you got a good group of people, playing this game all night for hours with some fun people is awesome. The game did get a little boring after I played it so much. It just gets repetitive, we need some new maps. Maybe I'll start trying for the achievements, maybe that will bring some of the fun back.

The worst is when you get a bunch of people who are totally self-centered. Everything has to be done their way or they b**** at you, they rarely bother to help anyone else or complain if they have to, and they're generally jerks. I had a guy like that one time and, when he got incapacitated, I literally ran right over him without helping him. He died. :)

Haha, yea iv played with a guy like that. He wasn't that bad to where i wouldn't have rescued him tho.

On a side note, who do you all like to play with, as in what character. I personally have never been anybody but Louis.

I tend to like Bill. Something about kicking the same amount of ass as a crotchety old bastard makes me giggle. :)

I just got the game yesterday. I love it. It's freakin' sweet.

Though, I'm disappointed that there's no story & only 1 cutscene.

Hopefully a sequel will give us a story.

i hate people that just run to the end of the level like its a freakin race... and leave their team members to die slowly for half an hour lol

Valve should do a set of four single-player missions as DLC that shows how each of the four characters got from the beginning of the zombie apocalypse to where they meet up. I could see Francis hanging out at a bar when some dude stumbles out of the bathroom craving brains and Louis faking he's busy at work when he's really playing Solitaire while the building is overrun around him. That'd be cool.

Trust me, it's worse on stuff like Zombie Master.:csad:

Seriously, I know it was supposed to be like a fun B-movie. But even those have some reasons for the outbreak & character backgrounds.

Yeah, L4D works well already because it builds on established archetypes--we all know why the survivors are working together and fighting for survival because we've seen it in dozens of zombie movies--but a little DLC to add to each character's story while simultaneously bolstering the anemic single-player side of the game would be welcome.

so yea ive played enough to realize winning with (all) the humans in multiplayer online is pretty much impossible... not quite evened out

plus people are being smart... i saw a player drag a garbage dumpster over a sewer hatch that the humans must eventually go through to win the level.... completely stoping the humans from getting to the end...ever.

What does "multiplayer" mean, given that the whole game is pretty much multiplayer? You mean vs.?

Multiplayer is the exact same thing as single player and co-op except there are four extra players that control the boss zombies.

Yeah, I see now. Co-op is still multiplayer, though, so I was confused.

New Game Mode, Versus Maps, SDK - 2/5/09

Valve has just issued a press release saying that a new game mode called "Survival" will be released this Spring along with Dead Air and Death Toll for Versus mode and the SDK.

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced a series of content and development releases for its latest title, 2008's best-selling new game property for the PC and Xbox 360, Left 4 Dead (L4D).

The first L4D DLC - dubbed the L4D Survival Pack -- is due for release this spring and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode . A Critic's Choice Edition of the game is also heading to retail stores this spring, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

In addition, for PC gamers and aspiring developers, the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit (Source SDK) will allow the creation of custom Left 4 Dead campaigns that will be discoverable via L4D's matchmaking system. The SDK update is also due for release this spring, and is free of charge to all owners of L4D on the PC.

"Since Half-Life launched in 1998, Valve has made continuous efforts to expand the offering of its products beyond what's included on the day of launch," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "With Half-Life and Counter-Strike, and more recently Team Fortress 2, we've learned that we're no longer making stand-alone games but creating entertainment services. With Left 4 Dead we're extending that tradition by creating additional gameplay and releasing our internal tools to aspiring developers so they may also create and distribute new Left 4 Dead experiences."

Left 4 Dead is a survival action game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 25 industry awards from outlets around the world.
No details yet on Survival mode.

Cool. The SDK should finally allow some user-made maps to pick up the slack and expand the variety of the maps for PC, at least.

Great news about DLC. I finally picked this up last week and I'm addicted. I love this game; though it has a few flaws that drive me nuts. I personally think in VS mode the zombie team needs to be a bit stronger; specifically the Smoker. The Smoker is basically freakin useless, and IMO the "tongue" attack should do damage the instant you snag the dude with it, otherwise WTF is the point?

Also, I've found the AI in VS mode is wayyyyy too good if you're playing as a zombie. I've been hiding in trees and behind haystacks and stuff while playing against a partially computer controlled team and somehow they magically see me where no human player would ever see me. It's pretty annoying.

But, all in all, I still love the game. I think it needs to be patched a bit to balance it a little but that probably won't happen. Great that we'll get 2 new campaigns, that's amazing!

When the smoker blows up into a cloud I think it's smoke should do damage over time, so even if the player gets freed he will be slowly seeping health for a duration or party members if the smoker blows up near them.
