Left 4 Dead

House of the Dead, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Dead Rising...there are more, shall I go on?

WW2 games are all the same boring FPS though, every horror franchise is different.

Resident Evil is a moody survival game where you have to salvage bullets and run past what you can. Dead Rising is a much more fast paced game where you can use anything you get your hands on. House of the Dead is a light gun game. Silent Hill has no zombies.

This game is looking pretty good. Especially with this new footage out. Looks very frantic and intense. I also like that the developers put more effort into smooth animations than clutter in the environment. In a slower paced survival horror game, theses emptier areas would bother me. But for this game, it really looks like it'll make the game more fun.

I think the game, visually, looks like garbage. I think the game could be really fun with the emphasis on co-op, but visually its nothing special.

who cares too much about visuals anyway??? it looks like a sweeet game

Who wants to pay 60 bux for a supposed "next gen" game that looks like its running on an Xbox or Playstation 2?

Hey if the gameplay is good, **** it.

Nah, were supposed to get great visuals along with great gameplay this late into the game. Theres no excuse to put out a game that has sub par graphics.

what you mean this late into the game??? it dosnt come out till alot later this year....the visuals didnt look too bad, and at least it has atmospheric lighting, seriously gameplay is much more important

I'm talking about the "next gen" game. The 360 has been out for over 2 years now, and the PS3 over a year. We shouldn't be seeing shoddy visuals anymore. And i wouldn't say gameplay is 'much' more important. Sure its valued over visuals but in this day and age of High Def TV's, visuals mean a whole hell of a lot.

Im looking forward to this game, but if it looks like it does in the videos iv seen, come relase, it better not be a full priced game. I dont want to wait until the game hits the bargin bin.

I'm with you on that one.
This game looks.. well, frantic.

I'm all about zombie anything.. movies, games.
But this one really hasn't held my interest yet. Might have something to do with the giant blob and hulk zombies. They look a little ridiculous, in my opinion.

Excited for this. We need more zombie games. I hope this ends up being even better then Dead Rising.

We need more GOOD zombie games. Hopefully this is one of them. Graphics be damned, if this is as much fun as it looks and sounds, that will always outbalance how good or bad the graphics look. At least for me.

Nice vid with Gabe Newell taking about the concept of the game, AI directer and the new charecter models at E3.

I love playing that.

And yeah, I'll pick this up when it shows up on Steam. Hopefully it's as addictive as Counter Strike.

Ya, demo should appear on steam soon also.

It's good to see that the hardcore survival horror genre is coming back with good games.

I mean, yeah...horror games are abound, but the latest ones that come to mind aren't really scary. Resident Evil seems to be headed into the action genre, and it's working out great for them. And Dead Rising was the good ol cheesy horror that we all love.
Dead Space actually appears to be good serious horror. Left 4 Dead seems it too.

If you have pre-ordered this or through steam or retail you get early demo access.

PRE-ORDER LEFT 4 DEAD, PLAY THE DEMO FIRST

Xbox 360 and PC Pre-Order Includes 10% Savings Plus Advance Demo Access

October 28, 2008 -Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (Steam and Source), today announced a special promotion granting those who pre-order Left 4 Dead early access to the official demo.

Left 4 Dead is the new survival action game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games.

Early access to the demo begins Thursday, November 6 on both the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PC. This pre-order promotion applies to all Steam PC pre-orders and all Xbox 360 and PC pre-orders from participating retailers in North America. The demo will feature single player and co-operative modes, supporting 1 to 4 player games.

On November 11 the demo will be made available to all Xbox 360 and PC and gamers, with no obligation to purchase. The demo concludes on November 18, when Left 4 Dead will be made available at retail outlets across North America and worldwide via Steam.

This pre-order promotion is scheduled in concert with the previously announced $10 million consumer launch campaign that spans television, outdoor, print, and online advertising.

"Every time someone plays Left 4 Dead, we witness the most overwhelmingly positive reaction that we've seen from any of our games," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "This gives us tremendous confidence in the product and why we've taken the game on the road, produced this pre-launch demo, and invested more advertising dollars on the title than any prior release from Valve."

Playable in single player, co-operative, and multiplayer modes, Left 4 Dead is one of the most anticipated releases of 2008 and winner of numerous pre-launch awards, including Best of E3 from multiple outlets.

I hear that brddda

"Official Playstation Magazine's latest edition says that Left 4 Dead, Valve's forthcoming survival-horror title, will indeed be coming to Playstation 3. Electronic Arts will be in charge of the port.

"Valve's survival horror game Left 4 Dead is coming to PS3, but EA will be taking on development duties in-house," says OPM, in an item noticed by many. (We saw it through N4G thanks to a tip from reader Nick T., and found the image at PlayStation Beyond).

N4G mentions the PS3 Orange Box fiasco, also a collaboration between Valve and EA, and wonders if the bad will created there will keep PS3 players away from this, too. It's a fair question."

It uses something called an AI director.

AI and the Director

The artificial intelligence of Left 4 Dead features a dynamic system for game dramatics, pacing, and difficulty called the "Director". Instead of set spawn points for enemies, the Director places enemies in varying positions and numbers based upon each player's current situation, status, skill and location, creating a new experience each playthrough.[5] The Director also creates mood and tension with emotional cues such as visual effects, dynamic music and character communication.
