Left 4 Dead

Whats the deal with the AI and Director? Does that mean its good for many many playthroughs?

Supposedly instead of using triggers-walk here and 20-30 zombies will attack or walk here and a music score will play and spawn points places like other games, wich become predicable... the director checks the players status and adusts the game play accordingly rather having pre-set numbers and positions of zombies, zombie types, spawn point and player resources and all that crap. It also controls the music and lighting effects. So each play through is suppose to be different from the last.

^ #1 reason why I'm getting Left 4 Dead. I will also play the hell out of it, too:woot:.

Zombies, Valve. How could it go wrong?

Is there multiplayer or just co-op?

just co-op?

Versus mode

In the deathmatch Versus mode, four additional players can take control of powerful Infected with unique abilities, amongst the other AI-controlled Infected. The playable Infected numbers are limited so players must select their preferred Infected and wait for it to spawn, with the Tank as the exception, it being able to only spawn a few times in each scenario. The Infected have the ability to see Survivors through the walls at a certain range if the Survivors are running, have the flashlight on, or are talking. The Infected can also see in the dark, unlike the Survivors. Infected spawn ahead of the Survivors and can, if they stay still, see a marker for their likely path of advance so they can set up ambushes. Throughout levels, Infected-only ways up buildings are marked with symbols. These can be climbed and used for ambushes, especially with the Infected immunity to falling damage.[citation needed]

The Infected

The Infected are Left 4 Dead's foe of the Survivors, and they are partly inspired by the infected from the 2002 film 28 Days Later.[15] The Infected, as opposed to the slow, shuffling zombies associated with Night of the Living Dead or Half-Life, are fast and agile, creating quite a formidable foe. They can be dealt with easily on their own, but in great numbers are difficult to defeat. In addition, there are five mutated Infected who have their own special mutant abilities and are more powerful than the regular Infected.

  • The Boomer is a hugely obese Infected that can spew projectile vomit at the Survivors, blinding them and attracting swarms of nearby Infected to them. Boomers blow up when they die, spraying nearby Survivors with blood that also attracts the Infected.

  • The Hunter is an agile Infected who can climb walls and jump over rooftops, similar to 28 Days Later Infected and Half-Life 2's Fast Zombie. Crouching for some time gives the Hunter access to a powerful pounce attack that pins a Survivor down until the Hunter is knocked off.The Smoker has a long, whip-like tongue that can strangle Survivors and drag them away from their team mates, similar to Half-Life's Barnacle and Resident Evil's Licker. When in danger, it can leave a haze of black smoke, distorting the Survivors' vision.

  • The Tank, a huge, muscular but noisy Infected, is capable of throwing large items - such as cars - or blocks of concrete. The Tank can take a large amount of damage before dying, but when played by a human player it must keep on the move not to become vulnerable.

  • The Witch is the only mutant Infected that cannot be played by human players and does not appear in all difficulty modes.[16] They are normally passive and can be avoided by careful players, but flashlight beams, physical contact, and loud sounds such as gunfire or car alarms in their vicinity rouses them. Witches can strike a Survivor down in one hit and can take a large amount of damage.

Ed: Oops Forgot smoker

I wish I could personally kick the testicles of each and everyone of these idiots downvoting games on any console.

I say go with Left 4 Dead. It looks to be a much more thrilling and unique expereince compare to WaW. I know if i had the money, id be grabbing this day one.

Pre-order demo is available today which will be available across the board next week. Jumped in for a quick game to try it out, some server problems but they seem to have fixed it pretty fast. We try'd it on normal and it was alittle easy, got through the demo with ease, turned it up to advanced and got about 3/4 through before we started getting overwhelmed and shooting each other, the smoker infected kept on draggin people off and I wandered too far away and got jumped by one of the hunter infected and died. It was alot of fun, you can't really go John Rambo, you seem to die pretty fast if you try that. The game isn't bad looking like alot of people made out, you can also run it on a modest machine like other source based games. The demo doesn't have VS mode, it's 3 parts of a early level and weapons are not available, the two, three play-through were different, although the path is linear there are diffrent routes they can attack from like climbing fences, coming up from under the floor, dropping from holes in the ceiling and such...turning the difficulty up added more special infected than the run of the mill zombies.

Damn that does look pretty cool. Does the game seem too frantic? Like its too hard to tell whats going on? That was one thing i was worried about.

Yea but it's not really like a constant hoard after hoard coming at you constantly without rest, seems kinda random in lul moment's.

You only seem to get the the Tank and Witch infected in advanced/expert, they pretty much kill everyone or most of your team, especially the tank. This game is pretty awsome, never had so much fun blasting crap left right and centre since the original doom. Looking foward to playing the full version.

I now offically want this game and am officially out of money due to Gears of War 2(which is amazing btw)

Valve screwed up, there's a console command hack on the pc version to play as the infected. They are trying to run them on counterstrike maps.

Here's a dude playing a hunter.

ED:

"Maximum PC reviewed Left 4 Dead giving it a 10/10.

High praise all around, calling it the best coop shooter ever.
Left 4 Dead didn't just meet our high expectations of the zombie apocalypse, it exceeded them. And when the real undead uprising arrives, we'll be ready for it

+Unrelenting zombie-killing action; satisfying cooperative campaigns; addictive verses mode
-Only two of the four campaigns are available in verses mode at launch

OXM gave L4D a 9.5. For those wondering thats the same score they gave Gears 2, so thats very impressive. Heres a bit of what they had to say.

Left4Dead
+Extremely intense action and zombie-killing chaos
+Built to be very replayable
-Can't play Versus on all four campaings; no plot

? When the zombie apocalypse inevitably arrives, which side do you want to be on? "

I just finished playing through the demo and i was highly impressed. You can DEFINITELY see how this game is designed to be played with 3 other individuals. I mean the game was fun just in the single player, but im sure itll be 10x better with 3 other friends. It took me about an hour to complete just 2 of the chapters. Add that with the "director" and im sure this game will last me a while.

If i had to complain about something, it would be that to me, the controls felt a little loose and un-precise, but then again im controlling someone who doesnt handle guns for a living and is just thrown into a horrific situation.

Im deff going to buy this game, i just gotta come up with the money.

I'm really interested in this game. I love these sort of scenerios. And playing them will make it even better.

Yea, the bots are smart but it's alot more fun playing with other people.
Normal is too easy, alot better in advanced/expert. No real challenge in normal, it's a walk in the park.

It's kinda like Dawn/Day of the dead with 28 day's later running style zombies. Plays more like the original doom than something along the lines of Resident Evil/Silent Hill, pretty dam fun.
