Liefield's Cable #1 varient cover

Oh of course. Honestly, I don't think we all hate him quite as much as we say we do. It's just so much fun! And he does REALLY suck. REALLY bad. But seriously, it's fun, in the way that reading Fashion SWAT on Something Awful is fun.

Rob Liefeld is the comic books version of that guy in every group that you keep around to pick on.

...oh c'mon, how could you leave out Hitler?

The scary similarities in their autobiographies lead me to believe that they're secretly the same person.

Since when does liefield go for realism? None of his artwork is realistic. From New Mutants to Youngblood, none of his art ever tried to portray the real world, real life people, or even resemble real life body anatomy. He draws oversized, flashy superheroes with big guns and impractical swords.
He operated in a much more realistic framework than guys like Ramos or Bachalo. Or guys like that **** who did the Joker origin in BatCon. Or that other stupid ****head that did Batman Secrets. Or whoever. The "Image guys" all worked from a fundamentally realistic perspective, and Liefeld failed at it. It's a testimony of how badly he failed that you didn't even realize he was attempting it.

Ramos and Bachalo both draw X-men, both have cartoon styles...their perfect for comic books, but personally, not my style at all.
Wow you are really losing credibility fast here friend.

Regardless of his past. I was just reading a little wiki and noticed not only was Deadpool created by Rob and Fabian, but New Mutants and X-force comics sales went through the roof under them. Obviously somebody liked their work.
Yeah, stupid 12-year-old kids. Besides, I have no problems with Fabian. Don't try to project this onto Fabian.

Its pretty obvious many of you guys can't tell the difference between reality and comics. Comics are for the most part, (let's not even talk about the stories) meant to be exaggerated...and sorry to burst some of your bubbles, but majority are fantasy.
You are so predictable, you know that? At least half of us had to know this was coming, eventually. "Oh yeah, well they're all imaginary stories anyway, you know? I mean, gosh, don't get so worked up over it, geez. You're such losers, to care about comics."

Personally I'm more offended if a character's writing is butchered. Thats something that sticks with the character no matter how many retcon's they do.
Yeah, but comics don't matter, *******! They're fantasy, remember! Sorry to burst your bubble.

If there is a difference, it doesn't matter because he's being judged for both. Unfairly, considering there are many comic artists out there who would fail the realism test as well.
That's because they don't try to go for realism. OK, some of them do, and you know what--we hate them too! Like that ****stick who was doing Countdown for awhile, you know, the one who draws faces like a poor imitation of Picasso?

I'm not marginalizing comics by saying that Liefeld's art isn't supposed to be taken that seriously...again its comic book art...not Van Gogh.
"Look, I'm not trying to marginalize comics, OK? I'm just saying, comics should be marginalized."

You can say whatever the hell you want about it. Thats what this forum is for. And hence my original argument, I personally don't see the point in nitpicking an artists work to death considering the material was never meant to be serious to begin with. He was and IS still trying to SELL books, thats what his motivation was and I understand that.
"I mean, comics are so STUPID! And DUMB! And FOR KIDS! God, they're just ******ed! Not to marginalize them or anything."

Comics are a guilty pleasure for me.
I'm sorry it's so painful for you to enjoy one of the nice little pieces of life. It must really hurt your hipster cred.

I indulge in it every month, sometimes I over indulge (especially when a nice graphic novel comes out).
Oh, of course, a graphic novel. It would be. You totally read Blankets, didn't you? And that one about buildings and architecture in a quasi-futuristic city? Big-time Speigelman fan, aren't ya?

...if you don't care for superhero comics at all, why do you post here?

If the story is horrible I feel ******ed afterwards. Recently I've been reading Way's Ghost Rider and I felt like burning my comics after reading them. The art is a good selling point, but the story is what drives me in buying more. For instance, I bought X-force #1 because I saw Crain's artwork on it...the story itself turned me off quickly because Wolverine just doesn't make for a good leader.
I like a good story more too. Stories drive comics, even when there aren't any words. But that doesn't mean Rob Liefeld and imitation-Picasso-on-Countdown-guy should keep getting work.

Some people live by them religiously, some people are the on again off again reader..some people still think they belong in the Sunday section in newspapers. Personally anyway you look at it, its pop culture. It changes in relevance from generation to generation.
Oh for ****'s sake quit being postmodern and have an opinion!

Wow you are really losing credibility fast here friend.

Because I ain't a fan of cartoony work that others consider realistic? No thanks.

Yeah, stupid 12-year-old kids. Besides, I have no problems with Fabian. Don't try to project this onto Fabian.

Fabian wrote it for 'stupid 12 year old kids.' You just projected that yourself, nice going!

You are so predictable, you know that? At least half of us had to know this was coming, eventually. "Oh yeah, well they're all imaginary stories anyway, you know? I mean, gosh, don't get so worked up over it, geez. You're such losers, to care about comics."

It took you THAT long to figure that out? Thats some mighty fine 'analyzation' there bud. That was my argument in the very beginning, their comics! More specifically, their LIEFELD comics..why so serious? If you idolize them, thats not my problem if that offended you...as others have said...people have a right to express their opinions, and even $hit on them if need be..and that ain't my problem that you seem to have diarrhea after reading them.

Yeah, but comics don't matter, *******! They're fantasy, remember! Sorry to burst your bubble.

I'm perturbed at bad writing? So sue me, it seems you're about to $hit your pants when somebody mentions the word 'comics' lightly. In that case, it might be better nobody else bursts your bubble.

maybe you all shouldnt be taking it up with liefield, take it up with marvel and other companies for still giving him work, hes just a guy working for a check. Isnt it marvel who obviously has some faith in him to keep it going?

Don't worry, we do that too.

That's because they don't try to go for realism. OK, some of them do, and you know what--we hate them too! Like that ****stick who was doing Countdown for awhile, you know, the one who draws faces like a poor imitation of Picasso?

I don't follow Countdown so I'll just take your word for it.

"Look, I'm not trying to marginalize comics, OK? I'm just saying, comics should be marginalized."

Compared to Van Gogh? Good luck getting it recognized that high..

"I mean, comics are so STUPID! And DUMB! And FOR KIDS! God, they're just ******ed! Not to marginalize them or anything."

Now you're just putting words in my mouth. Since you're playing that game:

To sum up your illogical argument: "Comics are God, their my religion, and kids have nothing to do with it..I"ll just pretend that Spiderman is catered to adults, and Liefeld in the 90s catered them to real MATURE adults and he was ALWAYS going for the most realistic look possible...and not just to kids who didn't care about anatomy..and infact...I hate stupid kids, especially 12 year olds and teens..even though I read material thats catered to kids, teens, and young adults."

Alright buddy, why not share your chair with the kiddos and teens? Is it that bad to say that kids sometimes read comics too?

I'm sorry it's so painful for you to enjoy one of the nice little pieces of life. It must really hurt your hipster cred.

Now everybody has to shop for comics the way YOU do? No offense if I cried my pants when somebody said comics are for kids, I'd rather have my tear ducts taken out.

...if you don't care for superhero comics at all, why do you post here??

Can't get rid of me that easily Aristotle. What kind of 'thinker' are you anyways? I wouldn't post here if I didn't read comics. Instead of always trying to put words in my mouth, it might help once in a while to actually read something. If you are so offended by what people say 'online' why don't you stop coming online yourself?

I like a good story more too. Stories drive comics, even when there aren't any words. But that doesn't mean Rob Liefeld and imitation-Picasso-on-Countdown-guy should keep getting work.

If you dont' like the work, you don't have to buy it. It doesn't mean some 12 year ain't, or some other guy who likes that artwork on Countdown.

Oh for ****'s sake quit being postmodern and have an opinion!

Do you even KNOW what the question was? All that putting words in my mouth and you didn't even read anything. The question was, do I like comics and the answer was: I just began again when Ghost Rider came out again, and I probably will quit when it dies out. The only other comics I collect are Conan graphic novels (written by Kurt Busiek) and the occasional Punisher MAX graphic novels by Ennis.

There is one other series that intrigues me and that is "The Boy who Made Silence" by Josh Hagler.

If you can't put 1+1 together let me abridge that for you. I read Ghost Rider, I read Kurt Busiek's Conan (based off of Ron Howards work), I read Punisher MAX by Ennis, and I read anything else that intrigues me like "The Boy who Made Silence" which sounds F&*)king great. Ofcourse I like comics, otherwise I wouldn't be here, and you wouldn't have a headache after talking to me.

maybe you all shouldnt be taking it up with liefield, take it up with marvel and other companies for still giving him work, hes just a guy working for a check. Isnt it marvel who obviously has some faith in him to keep it going?

Some people here are in complete denial that Liefeld actually has work, as does other artists who give them rashes in their behinds. Who cares really? Image is practically dead, everybody has moved on, and all the independents are signing up with the big boys DC and Marvel or Dark Horse because they offer them what Image did minus all the bull*****, backstabbing, and inter-office competition.

Let me ask you a question, you think that comics TODAY are catered towards kids?

MS, I was gonna respond to that line-by-line, but I think all of your bluster can be boiled down to this:
1) Comics are stupid.
2) You're stupid for not agreeing with my hipster opinion.
3) I'm rubber you're glue.
4) Cheap potshots.
5) You worship comics.

My responses:
1) Get over yourself. Comics are fun, and people who pay money for them have a right to expect quality that is satisfactory.
2) Again, get over yourself.
3) You're eight years old.
4) Again, you're eight years old.
5) No, I don't. I just don't believe they're a completely useless art form like you do, and I don't believe that any artwork, regardless of quality, is acceptable in comics.

If I were your parents, this is the time I would tell you to hug it out.

And then I would take you all for....ICE-CREAM!! :wow:

I had some Coldstone during my lunch break today. It was awesome. I hadn't had any of their ice cream since last summer.

their comics!

Whose comics are they?

OH. Oh, you meant "they're," didn't you?

Gosh, you must be embarrased.

I had some Coldstone during my lunch break today. It was awesome. I hadn't had any of their ice cream since last summer.

Oh man, I just remembered the taste of their cream-flavored ice cream mixed with raspberries. ****, now I'm gonna be craving for the rest of the day.

"I was gonna respond to that line-by-line, but I think....

Again putting words in peoples mouths isn't gonna get you anywhere, frankly, it has gotten you nowhere. The question you have not answered is why do you think everybody has to have the same love and devotion to comics as YOU do? If you have a problem with what I say, go cry me a river.

Some hard to swallow facts: Liefeld is an artist, he's a comic creator, and he's still around. No amount of Zanex or Chlorpromazine is going to make that go away, so deal with it.

WAAAAAAAY Back on topic;

That cover is horrendous. I know it's all already been pointed out, but there are so many flaws both physically and artistically that it make my head hurt. Why the hell did he steal Dredds shoulder pad and a random sheet blowing in the wind that's meant to represent his cape?!

*looks at the feet and legs again*

Oh dear lord :(

I was going to point out the totally hilarious and by every indication unrealized irony, but instead I'm going to point out that you left out the apostrophe in "people's," adding further to your already long litany of grammatical sins.

Also:

...putting words in peoples mouths isn't gonna get you anywhere, frankly, it has gotten you nowhere.

Oh man, has it also not gotten him to anyplace which might be described as somewhere? Perhaps it has additionally gotten him to no place which can be found anywhere? Oh, the suspense!

And you know I'm just going to throw this out there, but

so deal with it

any time someone on the internet says "deal with it" I immediately translate it to "please stop disagreeing with me, because it hurts my little-girl feelings."

I have yet to find a situation where this does not apply.

Nice one, Mojo.

So I guess you never made a grammar mistake? And I guess your absolutely perfect? Lose the ego, I doubt that you are an english teacher. Stop taking yourself so seriously, ITS COMIC BOOKS
