Live-action Cowboy Bebop coming to the big screen courtesy of....

I don't like this. To me, anime + live action = no.

Oh well, I'll just have absurdly low expectations. That way, I won't care if it's bad, and I'll be super happy if it's good.

Keanu Reeves has been attached to this for eight months.

Wow. It seems like fox casts their leads in movies a good 6-8 months in advance of press releases.
god. my initial reaction is goddammit. but i sooo want this to be good. and if keanu really really, i mean really commits to this, then i think it could turn out pretty awesome. i mean at least its gonna get a big budget treatment and some decent attention. :o

FOX had nothing to do with it. Obviously, the producer had his mind set on casting Reeves for all, any lead role on movies he's directing/producing.

He's (Stoff) had Reeves cast as Spike since the day he was hired to be his agent. :o

Erwin Stoff isn't the director. He is a producer AND Keanu Reeves' manager as well. But he produced things that doesn't have Keanu in it, as I Am Legend.

Maybe Keanu is attached but doesn't end up starring the movie, who knows. These things are announced and dismissed the whole time. For what I know Keanu has some projects in advanced development for now, some type of script with David Fincher and one sci-fi project called Passengers. It would be a surprise to see he starring in this Cowboy thing right now.

If Keanu is attached to this, and REALLY puts forth interest in this and actually commits himself to the role of Spike, I'm pretty sure hes going to a great spike.

his figure wasnt very impressive in Constantine. He'll have to work on it. He may be able to pull off the deadpan/dry humor of Spike. Im sure he can handle the action, he has before. Keanu Reeves has proven to be capable but has proven to suck as well. Hes to inconstinent for to be confident in him

The funny thing is, all three of the characters, except for Ed, always act exasperated, like I mentioned before. They do their bounty hunter job, but it's always, "man, I am getting really sick of this ****" type of thing to their mannerisms and voices which adds to the humor. They capture that, they're halfway there.

i agree that Keanu is getting a little dry, but he's the only famous actor i can think of that has the look and qualifications (choreography experience) to play Spike. he just needs to find a way to bring this character to life the way he did for Ted and Neo.

There is no way you can capture a fraction of the complexity and amazingness of this series in live action. I pity anyone who tries.

I talked to Steven Blum at Con and he's not keen on this movie. I already told him I saw him in the REAL Cowboy Bebop movie.

I loved Bebop on adult swim. I'm not completely excited with it not being animated but I'll see it.

Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel, are you kidding me? Did any of you actually watch Constantine? Don't you see how he RUINED that character?

Keanu Reeves, Neo or not, cannot handle characters like Spike and Constantine.

VileOne, when ever your in a thread, your always talking about how said subject, is crap and how the movie will suck. why is that?

All I can say is you only see what you want to see for the last three years.

Also, have you ever watched Cowboy Bebop? Have any of you seen the series and movie all the way through? Have any of you bought or listened to the soundtracks? And have you actually WATCHED Keanu Reeves movies?

Also, Steven Blum says poop on this movie. I can't argue with Steven Blum. He plays the BEST Spike Spiegel AND Wolverine.

Came across this pic at another forum.

You gotta admit. He has the look.

He does, and he has the charm of Spike too. I would have been happy if he had gotten the part... :(

Playing Spike or a lot of characters is not just about look.

Steven Blum looks nothing like Spike Spiegel, yet he plays an amazing Spike Spiegel. A lot of people thought Heath Ledger didn't look enough like the Joker. They wanted a Crispin Freeman.

God help us all if this movie gets made.

Well, it comes on Adult Swim tonight at about 12:30, and I think it's the second episode, so if you catch it, see if Keanu can match that.
