Loki LOKI General Discussion Thread

It was always a reward at the end of the week - I don‘t know, if I can resist 2 days not reading any news...
I don‘t like it that way - I could‘ve lived with Bad batch on Wednesdays instead...

I for one am glad that it'll be Wednesday instead. Already have a couple of other Disney Plus shows I watch with the family on Fridays and it'll be nice to have it to look forward to during the week.

I would prefer friday to be honest, I did an after-talk with some friends by the end of each episode and I doubt it will happen if you have go work next day.

I also watched 3-4 analysis on YT after every episode of WV and Falcon. This ended mostly at 12 p.m. and I was happy not have to work the next day

So excited about this one. Not only Loki is a great villain (if we can call him that), but Hiddleston alone is awesome to watch.

Also, ther's so much to explore here. This series can go anywhere. :)

They didn't want episode 5 to clash with Black Widow.

then they should release episode 5 on a wednesday- not every episode.
They did it with Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker

I’ll take it. We all need a mid-week break

It's the summer, so that probably plays into it. Though I wonder if we really start getting into overlapping "big releases" if they will start doing this more.

It's also probably because The Bad Batch will still be airing new episodes by that point, so they don't want to drop both on the same day. With the amount of new shows being released over the next year, Disney is going to get to the point where they are overlapping franchises. So they are probably going to be spreading out releases on various days as opposed to just Fridays.

In fact, by the time The Bad Batch ends, What If...? is probably already going to be airing, since its slated for summer. So I wouldn't be surprised if that show also ends up dropping on Wednesdays as well.

i agree- it's warmer out and school's done so people will be spending more time away or out doing other things on fri-sun.

If they have multiple shows releasing at the same time then I understand the logic. I’ve seen people suggest that Disney doesn’t want their shows to compete with the movie releases (which comes out on Fridays) but I don’t think that makes much sense. I mean the shows are VOD, you can watch them anytime. I don’t think there’s any scenario where a person has to choose one thing over the other. You can watch a movie and a show over the same weekend...

I think it's just with so much content they have to mix up some of the releases. Can't have every show on Fridays and yeah, I think Black Widow played a part in it. That way that whole weekend people can watch/go see that instead and give that more attention.

It’s more likely that Disney+ has other shows they will be releasing at the same time so they want to spread the schedule out. I don’t buy that it’s because of Black Widow because that’s the only Marvel movie coming out while Loki is airing. If they worried about BW then they could have just released that Loki episode a couple of days early the same week BW comes out. I think they did the same with Mandalorian when TROS came out in Dec 2019.

It feels odd that there's no Marvel show this week. Other networks don't hold back a whole series to allow another one to screen during that time but have multiple shows on in any given week - eg the CW, CBS etc.

We’re still in the early days of the streaming service but I do think eventually Disney+ will be in the position where they will crank out multiple shows at the same time, spread out across the week. They’ve kind of started to do that already with airing Big Shots, Mighty Ducks, and now The Bad Batch coming out on Fridays. They should probably start spreading those shows out too.

Spreading out gives people a reason to stay with the platform. Because while they have a lot of quality films and tv on their system it is stuff that people have seen over and over again. The new and engaging content especially for adults is lacking.

Spreading out the releases for Marvel and Star Wars helps prevent people from buying in for a month, then bingeing something and logging out for 6 months until the next batch and re-opening their account. WandaVision, Mandalorian, and F&WS have also become weekly must watch TV for a lot of people as well, which also has the effect of spreading via word of mouth and people engaging based on fear of missing out.

Also what I find fascinating is the effect it's had on the forums. WandaVision was almost like days of old with all the speculation, theories, discussion, and anticipation. Where when Daredevil dropped on Netflix people just binged and discussed what actually happened because the were able to see it all at once.

Loki is the next step, and for 8 weeks people will generally stay on the platform in anticipation. Then I'm not sure what comes after to keep the PG-13 and up crowd engaged.

yeah, but moving it from Fridays to Wednesdays doesn’t affect if people stay on the platform or not...

Oh yeah, I don’t think they should drop all the episodes at once like Netflix does. By spreading out, I meant Disney airing different shows on different days of the week like network tv does. Wednesday’s will be Loki while Friday’s are The Bad Batch. But they should definitely stick to the 1 episode a week model. Their seasons are short enough as it is with 6-9 episodes a season.

I don't think anyone here is advocating the Netflix binge model of dropping them all at once. But I would like them on a weekly basis if possible instead of taking a break for an entirely different series while that airs. Now at the moment that might not be possible because they simply don't have enough material, but they must surely have more than one or two film makers working on different projects at any one time.

ok my bad. Yes I agree then releasing a show on Mondays, and one on Wednesdays, and one on Fridays works to their advantage as well. It would increase the number of days you log in during the week rather than watching all the new releases same day. Then once you're there for a half hour show maybe you poke around and stay a little longer, then overall use hours go up for the service.
