The Extended cuts are very good movies, but I do like the shorter cuts for normal viewings

I voted Extended Editions, but for ROTK I'm not 100% sure...

I only saw The Theatrical Versions, so I couldn't say which is better.

I am looking forward to 'The Hobbit' trilogy, someone please shoot me.

Both versions are good, even though watching the four hour extended version of Rotk is nothing I'd like to do too often...

The extended version of Fellowship of the Ring is cool but doesn't add a whole lot to the overall viewing. The extended footage of Two Towers, on the other hand, really adds to the plot. I haven't seen the extended Return of the King.

Well I prefer the extended versions, especially Two Towers. But the theatrical releases are certainly easier to watch.

extended just for the legolas /gimli drinking game rotflmao
im so proud to own all the gift sets:woot:

I love these movies, but don't watch them too often, so when I do, I prefer to watch the extended cuts.

I voted Extended Versions. The Longer they are, the more absorbed I am into the world of Middle-Earth

At least Return of the King pays off the setups to Witch King and Gothmog, which are not in theatrical version. That's bad editing and storytelling.

But the Witchking's death was in the theatrical version, unless you're talking about his small faceoff with Gandalf which was an improvement but not really necessary. Saruman was the biggest omission that should've been in the theatrical version though.

Extended. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but the missing/changed parts of Jackson's trilogy could have been better and fit the narrative better. The Paths of the Dead part of the extended ROTK edition was awful.

It was necessary because Witchking said like he's going to deal with him and break him. Set up but no delivery. And the face off was adapted fairly well from the book.

Oh yes, I forgot about that line. In hindsight, if they were going to cut the confrontation, that line should have been dropped from the theatrical as well.

Did you know JJR Tolkien attempted to write a sequel after LOTR? Imagine how that would have turned out and while on a discussion in Facebook was quite interesting to read, there is so no way that Sauron could have been brought back unless Morgoth was involved (wasn't he beheaded and cast into the void?) Unless, if indeed Morgoth returns with all of his servants (even if it includes Sauron) , it'll be quite something to see before the breaking of the world in the 4th age.

I find Extended versions to be unwatchable. More doesn't always mean better. They're so bloated, that I just fall asleep. Awful pacing and majority of extended material doesn't add anything to the story, which focuses Frodo's journey.

Theatricals are amazing.

I always watch the extended versions because as bloated as they are, I still love the content. Return of the King especially benefits from the extended cut by showing the conclusion of Saruman's storyline.

But you do bring up a very good point. Very little of the added scenes in The Two Towers and Return of the King focus on Frodo with the most significant one being him and Sam disguising themselves as orcs in ROTK, which is directly from the book but also as we saw in the theatrical cut not essential to the story.
