Justice League Lounge of Justice - Part 82

This is the beginning of the end, folks. While none of these services pose a direct threat to Netflix, the more of these streaming services that pop up the more licenses Netflix will slowly but surely lose until there'll barely have any good movies to watch. Heck, even right now, I feel like Netflix's bread and butter is really television series both original and licensed. Their movie selection really only caters to film nerds like us who like indies, foreign films and 80's/90's classics.
Yep, I've been saying for a while I think Netflix is in danger. They started something game-changing...but it's taken on a life of its own, beyond their control, and it's gradually being taken away from them.

I still HATE the idea of individual networks starting their own streaming services, because I don't think any one network has enough worthwhile content to pay for, especially the broadcast networks (glares in the direction of CBS All Access)...but the big studios like WB and Disney? It just makes sense for them. WB wasn't thinking big enough when they started this DC service, imo.

My brother told me that Red Dead Redemption 2 includes the realism of horse testicles being affected by the weather.
I think I'll add more suggestions for true authenticity for a future sequel:These suggestions are meant to be publicized in the Onion. Don't take them seriously Rocksteady.
  1. Be able to neuter a male horse
  2. Horses need to mate, or they will become extinct
  3. Walk long distances, so long you can walk for hours between one town and the next
  4. If you don't take a shower for a long time, you will get sick
  5. People need their vaccines
  6. One shot to the heart should kill any character
  7. Your gun gets rusty after long use
  8. The world runs out of ammo for various guns after a while, you need to wait days for a supply to be manufactured, or wait weeks for them to be shipped
  9. Bandits steal ammo trains sometimes, you have to spend real time weeks to be able to amass your party and retrieve stolen shipment
  10. Towns run out of people after they are killed in missions
  11. One man army thing can go bye bye, it's unrealistic, you will always need an army for missions this big
  12. You'll need shields to protect you from bullets, and the weight should hinder you
  13. Hot steel in summer burns your skin, you see the blisters when you take off your shirt
  14. Have the right to call anyone calling you for a duel an a-hole, and skip fight
  15. If you try or successfully perform a stealth kill, everyone around you will notice, and you will perish
  16. Retries? There is no such thing in real life. Stay dead
  17. Fail a mission, and story progresses accordingly.
  18. You lose an arm in free roam? Congratulations man, it's amputated.
  19. Someone throws a knife to your balls? You lost them for good
  20. You need to go through the process of opening canned food exactly like real life, no shortcuts
  21. Your shoes will break after two years of continuous walking and running, your feet will feel the scorching burn of hot sands, and the bitter cold of winter. Unavoidable.
  22. Someone please amputate my feet, I will have to crawl the rest of the game.
  23. You die? New game buddy, no escaping it. You won't get the Arkham Origins luxury of it being exclusive to a highly difficult mode you only unlock after beating the game twice. (I intentionally brought the death bit twice in the same list, as a grim reminder)
  24. You get treated like Max Rockatansky in Fury Road, your body gets tattooed as an organ doner, that tattoo stays with you.
  25. An eye of yours is gouged, it stays that way.
  26. Both eyes are gouged, player won't be allowed to guide John just cause they can see the environment he can't see, he won't move according to your commands cause he can't see, so you will see him flail around aimlessly with you having very limited control over his movements.
  27. You mate? There will be a time skip after your character dies, your unborn child will learn how to crawl, and the player will control him/her.
  28. Wanted posters won't be removed. If they were, it won't clean your slate buddy, you're still wanted.

Ones that are/may actually be in the game:

3- Walk long distances, so long you can walk for hours between one town and the next (don't plan to test this, but it's probably accurate... I'm being serious)
4- If you don't take a shower for a long time, you will get sick (this does apply to the horse, believe it or not... there is a horse brush... yes, a horse brush)
5- People need their vaccines (wouldn't be surprised if there is a mission around this)
7- Your gun gets rusty after long use (guns can get dirty, or at least upkeep with the guns is a part of the game)
13- Hot steel in summer burns your skin, you see the blisters when you take off your shirt (weather does have an effect in this game, therefore you have to dress accordingly)
20- You need to go through the process of opening canned food exactly like real life, no shortcuts (sometimes it feels like that)
21- Your shoes will break after two years of continuous walking and running, your feet will feel the scorching burn of hot sands, and the bitter cold of winter. Unavoidable. (see #13)

Despite all of this, the game is oddly playable. But I can only play a little bit at a time. Small bites.

Particularly since it was announced a short time later that a general WB service is coming. I think had they waited and put the new shows like Titans and Young Justice Season 3 on that, it would have made more sense.

But do some characters merit going back in prequel mode tho? Eh. Solo and kid Darth Vader already showed this wasn't a good idea. Some characters are just better off letting them be. This is why I'm keeping my hype low for JOKER, despite being on board with that cast. Imagine watching a prequel to see how Hans Landa or Anton Chigurh came to be, not my jam.

I always thought one of the biggest mistakes with the Hannibal franchise was going too deep into his backstory. Lecter was far scarier when he was inexplicable and had no good reason for turning out the way he did.

Eh, quick review for this. A goddamn waste of time. Highly disappointing.

I'll be honest, I'm not even sure DC universe can sustain itself longterm. Unless their original content REALLY breaks out like Netflix's have, I don't know there are enough people out there who just want an all DC comics service just so they can watch Wonder Woman '77, The 90's Flash show, The Dark Knight and Batman TAS over and over again. Plus, lets be honest, most of us who ARE into those things probably own those on DVD and blu ray already.

Yeah. I personally think the whole venture feels too half-assed. Their debut original content is basically a TNT cast-off, their "comics library" is far from a Marvel Unlimited-esque archive and is far too selective, and they aren't even available on prominent platforms a lot of their demo would be using to stream it. Like, if you're gonna make something your one-stop shop for a specific brand, at least show up with ALL the brand can offer.

Yep, yep and yep. Not to mention their flagship series, Titans, which is essentially their "Daredevil" isn't exactly lighting the world on fire. I really like it personally and it seems to have a decent reception so far, but the show NEEDED to have DD-like acclaim to draw people to the service.

It's gotten a bit better, but Titans was in development for ages and is clearly the product of an era of the DCEU they're already trying to move away from, which makes it feel, to me, dated right out of the gate. They needed something fresh. Something big and bold, designed to usher in this new era of DC that would make people take notice, imo. I mean, can you imagine the buzz if they had announced a Superman show with a budget like the one Disney is giving The Mandalorian? Hype would've been through the roof. Oh well.

Yeah I get what it was going for but it was a bit of a mess. Good thing Ben Wheatley bounced back with Free Fire.

James Wan involved in Swamp Thing could be the best thing for them. Or it could be too little too late.

Yeah, they probably should have waited and launched with that. Though I still worry they'll skimp on budget. WB seems determined to keep DCTV in their proverbial ghetto. They just don't seem to get or care about the potential these characters could reach with actual budgets on TV. I'm crossing my fingers Watchmen could change that.

I think they have to be aggressively patient. It took Netflix time to really grow. They need to find as many ways to make it as attractive as possible, but also recognize that viewership growth doesn't happen overnight. What might make it work better is if there is a way to attach it to the WB streaming service, so different apps for a slightly increased price, or a separate section on the WB streaming app for all things DC.

Swamp Thing could potentially be a prestige show for them but idk if it has enough cache to draw in mass subscribers. Titans, a show starring ROBIN, one of the most popular comic book icons had the potential to be the thing to draw in lots of casual subscribers.

Do we know what their sub count is?

Some entertainment bloggers were also mentioning that the early enrollment numbers were lower than expected. Hopefully it picks up.

Hot Toys showing Wonder Woman some more love.

Lindsay Ellis talked about that in a really good video she made about Hollywood's obsession with chasing trends. She noted that the Titans trailer premiered to massive negative reception and mockery over the infamous "**** Batman!" line and Robin using extreme, bloody violence against the bad guys, and pointed out that had this been made sometime around the release of the Nolan films, people would probably have been much kinder.

Whereas now, the association between the words "DC" and "gritty" is so poorly regarded that it's become something even other DC productions make jokes about.

You can get the Snyder Cut at Blockblister.

I hear it's

Now that you mention it, as much as I like Titans' take on Robin, the character was never meant to be a second-rate Batman. His trademark jocularity, in fact, has long served as a counterbalance to Bruce's brooding cynicism.

This panel from Superman: American Alien says it best I think.

I've seen the arc on Arrow and Daredevil.
Doesn't make sense on DD, like at all, but I get the whole cutthroat vigilante becomes reserved protector ie the infamous "no kill" code.
Here it works because we've seen Dick go on a really obsessed, dreary path even thinking he's the villain on the TT cartoon, Thwaites' Grayson acts like a spiteful addict,
Jason Todd will be a treat, and we know his endgame is Nigtwing.
