Lounge of Justice - Part 90

It somewhat pains me to say that I think Spider-Man PS4 and Into The Spider-Verse understand the core of Spider-Man's character better than the MCU Spidey. It's a shame because I really like Tom Holland in the role.

I think the reason there's more discussion of the Ray Fisher controversy than the Ezra Miller controversy is that there have been updates on Fishers.
With Ezra Miller, there was the video, some discussion, then nothing.
Whereas with Fisher, there was a tweet, then another, there were people coming out to support Fisher, people coming out to support Whedon, a response from Berg, more tweets, Fishers interview at Justice Con, announcement of an investigation.
There have been updates on the Fisher case, lots of activity which the Miller case has lacked. The Fisher controversy has been repeatedly rejuvenated in a way the Miller controversy has not.

It’s actually more or less the exact same situation. We’re all looking through a small window and observing a clear wrong-doing, but in Ezra’s case we actually have the smoking gun caught on camera.

Yet him choking a woman was brushed aside so he can continue to play a beloved superhero and make millions, whereas the JL fiasco (of which we still don’t really know details) will continue to dominate the conversation for the next year or so.

Sadly entertainment actually does matter more than accountability.

Or it's brushed aside because not many care in a public sense. He's not a celebrity on the level of Depp, etc. The only reason it got any press to begin with is that he is a minor celebrity. Have we seen any public outcry, other than a few voices on messageboards?

And who is Miller truly accountable to?

Ultimately, the woman he choked. If he hadn't resolved things to her satisfaction, we'd generally be hearing more about it, wouldn't we?

He's potentially accountable to his employer, as his behavior could reflect negatively in terms of PR. But he doesn't owe anyone else an explanation about his private issues, and most people don't seem to be demanding them.

I'm all for holding people accountable, but sometimes they hold themselves accountable, and we don't really need the pitchforks.

I think they were almost forced to go in a completely different direction with the character after the Raimi trilogy and the ASM films. Especially after the ASM films. They needed a fresh take..

Which is something I understand, but there's still some bizarre decisions I still don't get to this day. Like the whole Michelle "she is totally Mary Jane but actually not but yes" fiasco.

Don't think I'll stay up for The Batman panel. Airs 3:30 AM over here. Will catch an encore tomorrow.

Fandome website is slow right now. Hope that won't become a problem.

It's basically the definition of trying too hard to be different. The refusal to even acknowledge Ben, MJ but not MJ but actually MJ, Peter-tingle instead of Spidey-sense, etc. They don't have to dwell on all the tropes the prior movies did, but they shouldn't act like they're ashamed of them either. This is what SM PS4 and ItSV did so well, they celebrated the franchises past while still managing to reinvent it and bring fresh ideas instead of running from it.

Lets just hope it's on their end fine-tuning their servers.

If I don't see a new WW trailer in 2h i'm gonna be so pissed off lol

i cannot believe they released 30s tv spot for 2 min trailer btw

I mean im cutting them some slack, this is the first time theyre trying something this ambitious and there was bound to be bumps in the road.

That said, they better have a plan B in place for showing the panels and footage if the server goes kaput in a few hours.

Just got "An error occurred: Network Error".

Don't worry. They'll release 'FanDome: working cut' few months from now
