Lounge of Justice - Part 90

Yeah it’s gotten to the point where even I’m starting to wonder when they’re gonna get to the actual “we’re a team now, let’s go do team stuff” portion of the show

I say this as someone who’s been a cheerleader for the show since day 1

Not yet but it has been great. Really loving Conner.

No, but it has mostly sucked, imo. Deathstroke, Conner and Krypto have been the only bright spots. All the stuff with the main team has been dull as dishwater. They need a new showrunner who actually wants to make a Titans show.

Thanks for your input. I guess I won't be in a rush to watch it when it becomes available on Netflix Canada.

Another problems to me is that Dick isn't really a character, he's a drama engine. So every time he lies to his peeps or does something "oooh, dramatic," it feels like the writers are just using him to create tension. It feels false. In actuality, I don't even know who this version of Dick Grayson is.

Also, some characters are interesting and some are so bland. I like Donna (perfect casting, imo), Hawk and Dove, Conner, and lately (only lately), Gar (think he works better as a tag team buddy).

When we move to Raven, not interested, to Jason, meh, to Rose, can't seem to care (fortunately not much of her), and Kory, it depends. Giving her, out of the blue, a cosmic storyline while there were like 5 storylines already going on, I mean what the heck is that? The Blackfire storyline could easily be its own Titans story, not some C plot.

Again, this show lacks structure and vision (or perhaps it has too much vision, like it's being written by someone with attention deficit).

I wonder if all these dc universe shows will move to hbo now or just Doom Patrol? I'm feeling less motivated to pay for the service. The comics are the only reason I haven't canceled, but I can always cancel and pick back up if I need new reading material (assuming my saved reading lists are saved).

Kory is the one from the main group with the most personality, imo, so it's a shame she seems to be the one the writers seem to struggle with handling the most.

Question, do you their aware and cognizant of Titans’ reception? This for all intents and purposes was supposed to be their Daredevil and it is not getting Daredevil buzz...at least from what i see.

I'm not sure I agree it was ever supposed to be their Daredevil (its original tone was leftover from when the Snyderverse was the DC gospel, not so much a response to Marvel/Netflix, imo), but I also don't think they care so much. Their customer base seems mostly happy with the show if the DCU forums are anything to go by, and it's obviously getting enough eyeballs to warrant them renewing it, so I guess they're happy enough with its reception.

The main thing that makes me happy about its renewal is that DC Universe renewed it (with no mention of HBO Max), which means the app is expecting to still be around for another year, which is a yay for me because while I honestly wouldn't miss Titans at all, I would certainly miss all those comics (and old shows if they didn't migrate to HBO Max), lol.

I was gonna say "oh they got renewed mid-season, hope they don't F up like last season"

Then I read the last 2 pages lol

Gimme the HBO Justice League!

Johns is a co-creator, but Greg Walker is the showrunner. Johns has never been showrunner on any shows he's been attached to (until Stargirl).

That's unfortunate. I've seen him promote the show and he's credited as executive producer, so I assumed he was more heavily involved. :/

My opinion, i dont think its at all a bad show its just very scatter shot and unfocused. Its got a STRONG cast, and season 2 has a very strong antagonist (Deathstroke) that is elevating everything. The action scenes are good and sometimes brutal but its no Daredevil in that department. The characters have interesting backstories and the flashbacks and origin episodes seem to be the strongest part of the show, the main narrative though is very unfocused and keeps giving you blue balls when things get interesting.

Season 2 is considerably better than the first and shows signs of heading towards the Titans show we wanna see...but yeah a new showrunner could work wonders with it, I think. I am HOPEFUL that these first two seasons were just a very long origin story to get the team into place and getting Dick to Nightwing so that s3 is just all out Titans action.

I don’t care for this version of Deathstroke. Now it’s to my understanding this version is actually closer to the comics but I vastly prefer the Deathstroke that I grew up with(which is the incarnation known primarily as “Slade“ from 2003 Titans cartoon). I just prefer the mysterious, calculating, manipulative characterization over the more sympathetic, humane portrayal. I personally find this version to be much less intimidating than the Ron Perlman-voiced Slade.

I didn't grow up with that cartoon so that's not an issue for me.

Starting The Mandalorian now. Here we go!

EDIT: Nice premiere, but too damn short!

I didn't realize the Hulu/ESPN+ add ons were a second package.

What are some reasons to pay 5 more dollars and get Hulu?

Only Hulu Original shows I watch are Handmaid's Tale and Veronica Mars, but I mainly use it for older shows (like Buffy, Angel, X-Files, Lost and that's how I did my recent Smallville rewatch, for example) or recent stuff I missed, like Killing Eve, What We Do in the Shadows, Fargo, The Good Place, latest SNL, etc. That Catch-22 mini-series they recently did was pretty good too, and my Dad loves their Stephen King shows. One big plus Hulu does that the other streaming services don't is offer up the latest episodes from various networks the day after they air, instead of making you wait 'til the whole season is out. They've got some decent movies too. I use my Hulu more than Netflix or Amazon these days, tbh.

Thanks. Maybe I'll try the bundle out, but I don't see where I can get it as a bundle, only articles that say we can can all 3. I just signed up for the Disney+ though.

Ugh, the episode order for the Spider-Man (1994) tv series on Disney+ is waaaaay off. They've got a S3 episode with the return of Venom as S1E1. Get your **** together, Disney. :argh:

The skimming feature also needs work, but I like what I've seen from the Disney+ library so far and it's only just launched.

Yeah I'm a bit overwhelmed with the content at the moment. Sooooo many '90's cartoons to relive, lol. Just watched that "Expanding the Universe" featurette on the Marvel section, and it's just a promo thing about the upcoming Marvel shows, featuring footage from the SDCC and D23 panels. Also watched the first episode of "The World According to Jeff Goldblum" which was just a half hour of Jeff delving into the world of collectible sneakers and it was totally worth it. :funny:

First time watching it in 20 years or so, but I'm happy to report Gargoyles is still cool as ****.
