Lounge of Justice - Part 90

This lockdown would be a nightmare for vampires; nobody going out at night, everyone keeping a distance from strangers and struggling to get your fangs through all the PPE.

A few back, swapped spit with a gal who had them vamp/ wolf fangs, she paid to have them on permanently. I hadn't thought of her till now, thank you sir for that.

i checked the twitter thread and lot of comments are like:

yea, its a zombie show that takes place in medieval korea.

it's very good, imo.

the old historical setting brings a fresh spin to the genre.

cuz u have court intrigue + swordfights + zombies.
also a social critique of the haves vs the have-nots, that good zombie fiction usually brings.

Okay, I'm 5 episodes into S1. I really like this show. I don't think Netflix did a good job on the description for the show cause whenever it'd pop up on my screen, it looked like there were zombies in the image, but the description made it seem like it was just a period piece.

This is so much more than that. It's like Pride and Predjudice and Zombies but in centuries-ago South Korea. So far it's really well done, great production value, and it's giving me flashbacks to the game Days Gone By.

And I completely agree about the social commentary. It feels even more relevant at this moment, at least speaking for the US. It takes a pandemic, a prolonged crisis, to really hit home the differences between those in power and what their values really are and everyone else. So very topical. Thanks for the recommendation!

Not a big gamer myself, but I did play the first Last of Us, was mainly gripped by that story. Read the spoilers and will just have to wait and see, while actually playing the damn game. I'm far more excited for:

Ghost of Tsushima.

Surprised they didn't use Bales Batman

Bale's Batman was too busy spray painting his bat emblem to a huge building, while captives were being murdered. Why would bald Nolan make that choice you ask? He was bloody over it by then, fat Liam Neeson and his soysauce colored hair and bad guy fake mustached didn't work here. Still, a great coaster for my drink when I can't find the godfather III to use.

glad you're enjoying it!

yea, theres that one scene where those government officials abandoned all the poor people to be attacked by the zombies.
it felt like a metaphor of government apathy and the class divide.
this was made before covid-19 was around but it's become so relevant now.

go watch season 2!

Yup, that stood out to me the most. There are people starving, and these rich, government dudes are escaping on their boat and that one guy is being served sushi or some such. Compare that to today where big business still took out big loans that were meant for mom-and-pop small businesses who needed it just to get by. The Lakers took 4.5 mil from the SBA loan program and that's 450 small business that could've gotten $10,000 each to pay themselves and their employees. And what's worse, I've seen some people at least commend the Lakers and the other big companies for giving the money back (after being shamed), but from my understanding, the money doesn't go right back into being divvied up to the small businesses; it just gets registered as "paid back" and goes right back into the treasury. So that money is still not going to the small guys.

The bad guys never see themselves as the bad guys.

Weird they haven't shown much of GoT...

Looks like I'll be busy playing the PC version of HZD this summer. Then into Cyberpunk 2077 in the fall. :hmr:

The idea of Batman is that he'll be more effective if he makes himself into a legend, something larger than human. The reason he dresses like a bat is to wrap himself up in a mythology, to prey on superstition, it's marketing, it's psychological warfare.
The burning bat was a challenge to Banes authority, announcing to the city that Batman was back, and still capable of doing the impossible. It gives those who might want to resist Bane a banner to rally around and strengthens their courage. It puts fear in the hearts of Banes thugs, everyone who got out of Blackgate would have felt a chill go up their spine when they seen that.

This is exactly what Batman is, if you think it's silly or unrealistic that's fair enough, however I think you need to accept that basic concept if your going to engage with Batman stories.
