Lounge of Justice - Part 90

Exactly. The joke is pretty poor. It's more of a strawman. I mean, there are definitely stinkers in the SC "movement," but that man's words don't resemble their primary point of view or discourse. BvS itself is a critique of the patriarchy and toxic masculinity, and SC fans include Whedon's sexist portrayals of Diana and Lois in JL among their complaints. Plus, the SC and TLJ agendas come from quite different angles. This "joke" also just keeps people talking about the SC and raising its profile.

Thank you for always being my favorite parody account, especially during times like this :hrt:

Eh, I agree there is obvious feminist subtext in BvS. But I'm also insanely uninterested in debating about it in the Lounge. I suppose I could've just not said anything at all, but I can sense @misslane38 getting outnumbered soon, so ya know...solidarity and all that.

Guess they can but I think if there's a Kyle Rayner centered show, for better or worse the two aspects that are all but necessary are evil Hal Jordan and the fate of Alex DeWitt. They don't need to do it exactly how it was in the comics though, it's called adaptation for a reason. That was also done precisely to help set the new character apart from the old character, since Hal was reckless but competent, while Kyle's reckless incompetence earlier on had awful consequences for him and those close to him. They were clearly going for the Peter Parker take as mentioned before. It's ironic since despite that Kyle was an artist and creator, Alex was initially the one doing all the work when it came to him learning how to use the ring. They clearly wanted to push the notion that Kyle was someone completely out of his depth who needed someone else to hold his hand so when he loses that person he's left to fend for himself. I think it's not just the trope itself, but rather the gruesome nature of Alex's death why that moment is being frowned upon as much as it is.

And that was fine, for whatever year it was. But the thing is, Kyle Rayner has evolved considerably being being a take on Peter Parker, or even being the traditional superhero. His origins and evolution should reflect that.

There are better, less cliche ways for Kyle's actions to have impact on those around him.

Lol you gotta love Christopher Nolan, he seems to be the only director in Hollywood people are legit afraid to f*** with. He says Tenet is staying in July and its staying in July, why? Because hes Christopher f***ing Nolan thats why :funny:

^ his kung-fu is invincibruuuuu!

But recently, Tyson has been kicking around the idea of a comeback -- telling rapper T.I. he's interested in taking some exhibition fights to raise money for charities.

"I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box 3 or 4 round exhibitions for some charities and stuff," Tyson said.

"Some charity exhibitions, make some money, help some homeless and drug-affected motherf**kers like me."

Well, he wasn't BSing ... Tyson really did strap on the gloves and he looks as explosive as ever.

Reminiscing of my two weeks in Thailand. Dancing around real beautiful women and ladyboys. Simply great.

Finally got to catch BoP again since theaters and enjoyed it a lot more than the first time. Such a tragedy this didnt do well, I’d really like to see more of this coming from DC. The marketing ppl completely screwed this movie over, this could have easily made 300 mill with the right push.

I know the timing is wrong (no pun intended), but a preowned rolex datejust 16013 is calling my name.

Transphobic is such a weird term. I don’t think people are are afraid of trans people lol. Disagreeing with them doesn’t mean you have a phobia. ‍♂️

Age of Ultron is randomly trending on twitter for the past couple of hours.

Mostly folks are saying it's better than what we give it credit for.

I'm also curious about that :thf: I'll watch it again. It's been a while.

My Avengers movie rank at the moment is 1) IW, 2) Avengers, 3) EG & 4) AoU.

I have seen both IW & EG recently so I'll just re-visit the first two and see if my list needs any re-structuring.

I think it's probably fair to say that a good portion of the -phobic/-ist remarks thrown around on social media rarely tend to make much sense.

My favorite scene in an amazing trilogy loaded with fantastic scenes.

I think my ranking swaps Avengers and Infinity War from your ranking, but I've always loved Age of Ultron and think it's the underrated entry in the series.

Haha, I've thought the same thing. Like 'homophobic' literally means to be deathly afraid of someone who is gay, even the idea or image of someone who is gay. It's an - ism not a phobia.

At the same time, that's how language works, and we evolve along with it.

My issue with AoU is the same I have with other movies that aren't bad but still feel disappointing (TDKR as another example). The second half or final third just doesn't hold up under the weight of what it attempted to do. Every time I get to the end of the movie, I have this feeling of something is just really missing and shortchanged. Avengers saves the best for last so it increases in enjoyment. I find AoU to be the opposite.

I also remember Joss saying that we would really understand Ultron's pov, and maybe that was Joss' intention, but I don't think he did enough to represent Ultron's point of view other than the typical cliche stuff.
