Lounge of Justice - Part 90

You should check out the full Street Fighter anime series from the 90s. Incredibly well done. In fact i may rewatch it myself. Plus it has a great memorable intro:

i actually seen most of this too!
i believe some of the same team who did the animated movie worked on this too.

this was entertaining in a sort of elseworld's take on the street fighter story.

they made ryu start as a brash goofball who eventually turns into that stoic badass. lol

speaking of street fighter, assassin's fist was pretty great, but nothing has topped the animated movie yet as the best adaption. and that was 26 years go!

i been rewatching some of this cuz of shelter in place and forgotten how good it was.
that hand-drawn art and choreography!

I saw that Street Fighter II animated movie, SF: Assassins Fist and the live action movie within a few days of each other a couple of weeks back.

I would have enjoyed the animated movie way more if I didn't spend years stanning DBZ as a kid. The fights in SF pales in comparison to DBZ so even the good fights here fizzled out from my memory.

The soundtrack is an all timer tho. It was unbelievably amazing.

Chun Li in the movie is total babe. Remember the shower scene and the subsequent fight. Very good fight choreography and even better camera placements, lol.

What the f**k, it looks so good. I can already tell that I would have been a big fan.

I never watched this when I was a kid. This never played on Cartoon Network or any of the Disney channels. I missed out man :(

i actually liked the sf fights more than dbz.
they were choreographed by mma guys hence they skew more towards realism.
the special moves are only used sparingly as major power moves or last resorts. i liked that.

yea that chun-li vs vega fight in her apartment is probably the best fight sequence in the movie.
it was pretty fan-servicey. and sleazy since shes fighting in her underwear the whole time lol.
but she straight destroys vega with that lightning kick at the end.

Spot on here.

I wish I enjoyed the fights more but like I said above, introduction to DBZ as wee kid doesn't help. Similar fight style (even if they are more realism based and very good at that) will not register on my mind because I have seen Goku go super saiyyan, There is no coming back from there.

Lol, yeah. It was a scene made for the pervs :p I was shocked to see the level of objectification, heh. I don't mind tho, not at all :p

Thus far, I'd say The Dark Tournament arc of Yu Yu Hakusho is my favorite bit of 90's anime goodness. The animation was energetic and fluid, the art style was gorgeous, the plot and characterizations were legitimately compelling, and the fashion was drippy af.

fighting right after she got out of the shower and in her underoos represents vulnerability. lol.

the 90s were a great time to grow up as a teen!

Dude, this was so much better than it had any right to be. I remember the Ken vs Vega fight BLEW MY MIND as a kid. Wow, talk about a viscerally violent showdown.

I never really liked BTAS or JLU as a kid. I was more into X-Men cartoons and the kiddie Spider-Man one on Disney. The DC toons looked grumpy and not fun so no dice.

the weekend morning lineups were also dope as well. Constantly switching back and forth between Kids WB and Fox Kids every saturday morning, you couldn't beat that.

BTAS and TNBA were definitely on the darker side of stuff I watched as a kid, but at the time even I could appreciate the shows for what they were. They found the perfect blend to keep all audiences involved, truly lightning in a bottle.

i should rewatch again.
the movie didn't really have much of a plot, it was more bout the fights and visual pizazz.

but i remember this show actually had a story. lol
i liked how sagat was a good guy in this. they tryin to turn street fighter lore on its head.
he turns into a (still honorable) bad guy later after his lost to ryu.

That weeknight toonami lineup when I was a wee lad was truly iconic. DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, The Big O...... true greatness.

BTAS was in there of course, as well

cowboy bebop is the goat.

and i liked the big o a lot...up until the ending.
man, they didn't really know how to end it so they wrote some existential bs (like neon genesis evangelion did!)...it pissed me off!

Man i miss Toonami. I miss old Cartoon Network in general. Back in the 90s/ early 2000s that was THE channel to go to. Their original programming was so cutting edge and quirky and ahead of its time and then things really got weird at night when they’d play stuff like Space Ghost Coast to Coast which I LOVED as a kid. That show was so weird but so good man.

And then i remember at like 1 or 2 am they’d play Speed Racer :funny:

Nostalgia. :) Still don't get why Ken had reddish hair on this show tho.

It's fun, but not great. Loses its footing after 20 episodes or something.

Best anime.
