Lounge of Justice - Part 90

People are very complex creatures. They don't all fit into stereotypes.

yup, i know folks who are all for progressive politics and policies, but they'll still vote republican cuz they wanna keep their taxes low.

it's not so clear cut sometime.

but it's sometime tribalism too.

not that lot of pro-republicans personally like trump (lot of them hate his personality), but they'll vote for him because he's the one batting for "their team" at the moment.

Got in a great convo with what some would call a ''keyholder'' to some sides of the business. She is a feminist, supports BLM movement, mostly pro science etc, and I can say a great person in general, but she is still voting for Trump. Why? Because of his and her conservative beliefs. And in that moment I know Trump will win again.

He won't. What happened last time will not happen again. Clinton was the only candidate Trump could ever hope to win a presidential election against. For that reason I always described him as an anomaly. Anomalies don't tend to happen again. Granted, polling showed she was ahead of him last time just like it does with Biden now, but that was then and this is now. So go and vote him out so I can finally stop hearing about him. :argh:

So a libertarian. Not really a progressive.

Even if you include small parties, Greens argue amongst themselves, so do Libertarians. The more in depth you look the more diversity you discover. There are people who have both left and right wing beliefs.
We instinctively try to pigeon hole people, but they don't always fit.
The two big US parties dominating the system forces people to align with groups they might have very little in common with.

Yep. MCU spidey still sucks tho. Garfield and Maguire will be the draw of the movie if they do appear. It would ruin my dream casting of Garfield as Joker.

i'm entertained by mcu spidey and i like holland in the role generally, but it's missing something.

i'm not getting that sense of emotion or feels like i did when i watch tobey's and garfield's spidey.

Honestly, I feel like it's because of the lack of Aunt May/Uncle Ben stuff. Tobey's and Andrew's takes were more grounded by their familial ties. So much of their inspiration came from the regular people in their lives.

Not really any of that with Holland. They tie him more to Tony and I think it just feels too larger than life a connection to be relatable.

That's my take at least.

And the people they do try to tie him to, his friends, most of them feel 1 dimensional. These movies were described as superhero John Hughes movies but in those movies you got an eclectic and interesting group of characters beyond the main lead. I don't feel any of that with this group. They're just sort of there, mostly as comic relief.

Honestly, that Civil War scene with Peter and Tony made me realize the Russo brothers have a better understanding of who Peter Parker is than Jon Watts apparently does.

To me it's perhaps due to how they moved away from the friendly neighborhood hero thing. In the comics when Spidey is among other big heroes, he still feels like the local hero who teams up with the big guns, the MCU did everything to make Peter feel like he was one of those big guns when imo they didn't need to do that. What makes him special is the fact that he often feels out of place with those guys, in the MCU Stark mentored him, then made him his heir, he's also mentored by Nick Fury, now by Strange, etc. He doesn't feel as relatable as I'd like him to.

I understand the concept of Homecoming. Being a kid with established heroes. Of course, Peter will look up to them. Homecoming ended with Peter being a fully-fledged hero, but somehow he regressed in Far From Home and essentially undergoes the same arc as he did in the first movie, only this time with Iron Man's death as emotional anchor.

Not to mention the awful direction, and caricature characters.
