Luke Cage Luke Cage General Discussion Thread

I know this is off topic but one thing I love about these Netflix shows is that I get too watch them in the comfort of my own home. Maybe I'm just lazy lol but I don't really like going to the movies anymore.

With Luke Cage having the tone of The Wire though actually does make sense because Luke Cage more or less is a comic book character from the hood

I hope that the show gets some major coverage from the big industry magazines and websites when it's time to premiere.

From the Jessica Jones Screening and Q&A at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. Yellow looks good on him! And Rachael Taylor... <3

Mike Colter probably the best casting choice Marvel ever made as far as Luke Cage goes

^^Lol...well he's the only (live action) Luke Cage so far.

If Luke Cage was on the big screen I guarantee you they would have casted someone like Terry Crews or Michael Jai White or even Dwayne The Rock Johnson to play him if he was more mainstream but Netflix I am glad that Luke Cage is within that universe

Yes but then again Luke Cage hasn't even debuted yet on Netflix so there is that and Luke Cage well his debut is much anticipated

Luke Cage isn't the only Netflix Marvel show though...

I know that there is also Iron Fist, Daredevil and Jessica Jones but with Daredevil and Jessica Jones they are already popular but also on-going while Luke Cage and Iron Fist their respective solo TV shows haven't even aired yet on Netflix

I mean yeah...that's clear and obvious
what does have to do with what I said about the DVD/Blu ray's not being released

Well if they haven't debuted yet then of course the DVDs/Blu Ray's would not be released but then again they have been hyping Luke Cage well Marvel has anyway

I, and I assume everyone who was talking about the home media was talking about why havent they released DD or JJ

Why would we ask "why havent they released Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Defenders" when they havent even aired yet? :loco:

The real question is, why would/should NF release them on dvd/br at all when they can rake money in from monthly subscriptions?

I would agree with you if, as I said, all their other major shows weren't released on Blu Ray and DVD.

They've released Daredevil on Digital Download, though. I suspect many people who buy Daredevil DVDs aren't cancelling their subscription since new shows are still coming out. That allows them to make more money on top of the Netflix fee.

It does make me wonder how others will percieve this show. A story of an urban black male who deals with that kind of crowd and listens to hip hop. How will the tumblr/The Mary Sue crowd react? How will people not familiar with the culture react? I've seen comments on the teaser trailer on youtube from people saying "Why is there rap? Is it just because he's black?", when in fact:

1) Hip hop started in New York by the local African Americans, and it's rooted in that identity.
2) Anybody the age of Luke (30s), especially in New York, whether they be black, white, asian, latino, growing up during the late 80s - early 90s probably was listening to hip hop and aware of the emergence of the culture.

I do think this show will prove a lot of people wrong, through it's depictions of New York and it's song selections.

First Plot Details for Luke Cage revealed by Mike Colter:

http://collider.com/luke-cage-plot-details-netflix-mike-colter/

There are politicians and then there are shady characters that function on the other side of the law. Who does what? I won’t say, but this becomes a situation where there are a lot of people who want to help Harlem and think they have Harlem’s best interests, but, ultimately, just because they think or say they have Harlem’s best interests, sometimes they’re being very selfish or being very short-sighted. So sometimes what they’re doing is actually harming the community.

I guess this is where that Wire similarity is coming from. Luke Cage will focus on all aspects of Harlem, whether it be corrupt politicians (Black Mariah) or law breakers (Cottonmouth), as well as the everyday people of the area.

So this is where Luke comes in because Luke is a person who likes to, he observes and he listens and he takes in to account what people tell him, and he’s a pretty smart guy himself and he understands that some peoples’ way may not be the best may not be the best in the big picture. So ultimately Luke has to get involved because there are a lot of things that happen, a lot of people get hurt, a lot of lives are lost and unfortunately he’s the only one who is capable of actually helping deal with this because sometimes the law enforcement is actually not the best because they’re not aware or they’re not capable, or maybe they’re corrupt. So, without getting into too many details, Luke Cage is gonna have to step up and be the man.

And it looks like they're setting Luke up to be a community hero and very much a man of the people.

Why would you buy dd dvd if you already subscribe to netflix? Don't know why anyone would bother to buy dvd's anymore at all. Gave all mine away.

Well I for one want it to be released on blu ray for the special features and to have them next to my MCU blu ray movies collection. So I guess that's why others want it too. But if they never release them (which they probably will so just give them time) I'm fine. I'm still going too have my subscription because I use Netflix for other shows and movies as well as the MCU Netflix shows.

Wow his surprisingly comic book looking. The Netflix shows have been very grounded in terms of the look of characters.

The suit is very faithful to the comics. The helmet looks like a cross between CW's Atom and Robocop.

Interesting that he seemingly has some technological based superpowers as in the comics he only had gimmicky knives
