Tyrese Trapped in a Cage?
The actor discusses the possibility of starring in the Marvel pic.
by Chris Carle
August 28, 2006 - A film adaptation of the Luke Cage comic, which has gained considerable attention recently in the Marvel universe, is still on, and according to actor Tyrese Gibson, he is still the frontrunner to play the man once known as Power Man.

We caught up with Gibson on the set of Transformers this weekend, and this is what he had to say about his role in the project:

"Right now they're doing a rewrite on the film. John Singleton's got me at the top of his list. I'm not full-on committed to the project but it's something I'm extremely interested in. Met up with Neal Moritz a few times about it. Met up with Avi Arad a few times about it, and you know, we'll see what happens.

"It's not my movie, for the record. But it's something they're really interested in me being a part of. I'm interested in being a part of it and I think we'll be able to determine—if John Singleton, if me, or whoever else is gonna be on the project—we're waiting on the product. We can't do a movie without a good bible. What are we gonna read?"

Stay tuned to IGN for more information on this and other Marvel properties in development.

Marvel better concentrates on the franchises of: Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Wolverine, Daredevil, Deadpool and X-Men.

Marvel has no control over Spider-Man, X-Men Daredevil, and others that are controlled by the studios

You beat me to it. It amazes me that people don't understand this yet.

Plus Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man are getting movies. So it's not like they're being ignored.

Though I'd rather see movies Cloak and Dagger and the Power Pack to be replaced by sequels of Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man. In my opinion those three need at least 2 movies before the Avengers movie is made.

Outside of what AD and HH pointed out. I should note Luke Cage is a much more popular character in comics right now than Deadpool. He has become one of Bendis' favored 5 (Spider-Man, DareDevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Captain America). Marvel loves Luke to death right now, writing as a big mover and shaker in the MU.

So I'd think Marvel would want to jump at the chance of marketing him and Black Panther before Deadpool.

Any marvel property can work as a movie. The problem is the execution. Look at what they did to daredevil and elektra! Look at that blade trinity mess goyer made!

Find the right writers and directors and actors and make it work.

I don't think that the NFL Superpro would work as a movie.

I would pay $10 to see a superpro movie. Now this stuff about luke cage it would be cool to see it as a movie but I could see it better as a tv show.

That Tyrese seems to be the only one still talking Cage makes me think its stuck in developmental hell. And I'm praying hard that it stays there.

Tyrese+Singleton+Ben Ramsey script=cinematic disaster.

Luke Cage maybe more popular in Marvel/Comics world, but a crazy ninja should make a more interesting film to general audiences. Count on it.

What I mean is those superheros series, which also means sequels. Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, and Daredevil need sequels.

Solo? No Thanks

along with Iron Fist In Heroes For Hire The Movie, bring it on
and no Samuel L. Jackson crap

Thought this was a thread for Luke Cage supporters? My bad.
For the record, I for one would love to see it happen if it's done right.
NO TYRESE PLEASE!

Id pay top dollar for that, but Marvel doesnt hold the rights.

I wish I could remember his name (Kevin.. ???) but it would be interesting to see the guy from the first "Underworld" movie as Cage. I think it would be funny to hear him say "sweet Christmas" with that baritone voice of his.

I am down with a Luke Cage movie.

Luke Cage and I kick it regularly...

A Power Man and Iron Fist super hero buddy action film is just waiting to happen.

Marvel has the rights to Iron Fist and if they get Luke Cage back...we're set.

Kevin Grevioux is his name. He's one of those low-key, bit actor types of guys. Still, got a cool voice. If only we could set our Wayback Machine to pick up Tiny Lister when he was a little younger...

Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue) is the best choice for Cage IMHO.

Tyrese is full of attitude and charisma and looks seriously ripped to boot. I hope they really do use him. He'd be awesome for the role.

Now let's stop talking about it and start filming.

Luke Cage could be a great franchise for Marvel or anyone so long as it has a great script and story.
