Luke Cage heats up...again.

Tyrese is full of attitude and charisma and looks seriously ripped to boot. I hope they really do use him. He'd be awesome for the role.

Now let's stop talking about it and start filming.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. Tyrese as Cage is a disaster. It'll do as bad as Elektra.

Foxx escapes Cage

There’s one Marvel comic book movie that hasn’t been in a rush to hit the theatres – considering most superhero flicks are announced and consequently, released, within three weeks of one another this is quite exceptional – and that’s the long-gestating “Luke Cage”.
The favourite for the role of the crime fighter has always been Tyrese Gibson (“The Transformers”), but in recent months, it was revealed that Oscar Winner Jamie Foxx had also had a couple of discussions about the movie.
In an interview with IESB, Foxx says you can now strike his name out of the contention box.
"I don't think [it will happen]," the actor said. "Sometimes you've got windows to do things, and if you do it cool, and if you don't do it, let it go."
With John Singleton still attached to direct the movie, it’s likely that Tyrese Gibson –who worked with Singleton on “Baby Boy”, “2 Fast, 2 Furious” and “Four Brothers” – will indeed still get a look-in when the film gets off the grassy nole and closer to a projector. It’s believed a second draft of the script was recently turned into the studio.
The comic book adaptation is about a former gang member who is framed for a crime he didn't commit. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bullet-proof skin. Using his newfound powers, Luke Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire.

I never understood the discussions about Foxx for this part. I really can't picture him in the role, even if you go back to his pre-"serious actor" days. It's just... it doesn't fit. So yeah, let's move on.

Marvel may have wanted Foxx for Diamondback, but the studio wanted him for Cage. It was the studio's insistance on him that lead to Singleton's "I'll do the movie my way, or not at all" comment at the Hustle and Flow premiere. He wants Tyrese for Cage, Terrence Howard for Diamondback.

Producer Neal Moritz said so in an interview:

Q: Who would you like to play Luke Cage?

A: Jamie Foxx

Q: Have you met with Jamie Foxx on the Luke Cage project?

A: I talked to him about it, yeah. I don't know if it'll happen but I know he's wanting to do it.

Q: Does Jamie Foxx read the Luke Cage comic books?

A: He likes them, yes.

Q: Since Luke Cage is a lesser known comic book superhero, would you sell it as a comic book movie or just a cool character?

A: I'd sell it as a character.

I've felt the same for a while. Did Marvel regain the Iron Fist or does Lion's Gate still have them?

I don't think many would disagree that the best way to use Cage is with Iron Fist in a Heroes For Hire film. I'd could be Marvel's Rush Hour. Hell, they could even introduce Misty Knight and Colleen Wing and do a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff grrl power flick ala Charlie's Angels.

Ya know, that could actually be a good flick Heroes For Hire and Daughters of the Dragon after the same perps...

I hope this movie doesn't happen. COME ON HEROES FOR HIRE!!!! That is the way to go.

I wouldn't mind a Luke Cage film, then a separate Iron Fist film and at the end of each film we see them meet. Like a shared ending of the two stories coming together. Then the follow up would be the team-up.

Luke Cage could be a great franchise for Marvel or anyone so long as it has a great script and story.

Well, gosh, that applies to any character doesn't it?

Luke Cage is owned by another studio right? So, unless that studio acquired the rights to Iron Fist, then by doing the Cage movie, we wouldn't get the Heroes For Hire tie-in movie later (if I am wrong, correct me). That is why I hope this movie doesn't get made.

What was the name of Luke's old gang? I hope they're in this movie for sure.

You're right and wrong. Marvel has the rights to Iron Fist from what I understand not Artisan or LGF. Sony has Luke Cage. Since Marvel is the parent company that basically leases out all these rights when they have 100% control of them like Iron Man & Hulk, they could lease out the character to other studios for a one film deal if they wish and still maintain the rights. Now that Marvel has it's own studio they have no plans to sell any more rights to anyone however is Sony said he we're going forward with Luke Cage but we'd like to have Iron Fist play a small part in it...then Marvel could say ok give us $$$ up front for 1 film only against a fraction of the profits. I'm pretty sure the studios like sony and fox that have the rights to certain characters can't sub-lease them out to other studios though. :)

The Bloods. And I think it's a given that we probably will. Considering Willis Stryker (Diamondback), the man responsible for framing Cage, was apart of the gang. And they were also the best of friends. During their days together, they also fought other rival gangs. One mainly known for often being under the control of crimelord Hammer, called The Diablos. There's a chance they'll establish the friendship, then, of course, move on to the double cross. Showing why Cage has all this anger toward Stryker for his betrayal.

Thanks for the explanation. I would still they rather just do a buddy movie rather than solo movies then the buddy movie.

Luke Cage should be a straight to DVD movie.

^ Why? It could be a great theatrical release, a future team-up flick, and it could spin-off into a killer tv show.

Hey, BTW, does Diamond back have any "powers"?
Stryker doesn't have any. However, he's known for his skills with the use of knives. Hence his name "Diamondback", due to his striking speed. Stryker later became affiliated with the group called the Syndicate. And also hired Gadget, a genius who designed several specialized knives for him. Stryker then called himself Diamondback, and created his own suit.

The knives contained their own weapons, which Diamondback used for both fighting and throwing. Some were explosive types, while others had a sonic attack, as well as a special gas...
