SWEETNESS!:D I just saw Four Brothers the other day and the man IS Luke Cage. There was this one scene where this guy ran right into a door with him standing behind it and when he walked in I actually gasped. I really hope the script is right because I want Gibson for Cage.

would you prefer a luke cage movie or a heroes for hire setup??

I saw FB too, and that scene was all kinds of awesome. I'm really, really glad the movie is still moving along, and that both Gibson and Singleton want to get it done. I'm getting psyched thinkin of Gibson saying "Sweet Christmas!" for the first on screen. :D

The campaign starts now, Gibson for Cage, dammit! :cmad:

I think they should use someone else. I don't think Tyrese is big enough or has the right presense to handle the role.

He can get bigger (even though he's already pretty damn big right now so imagine just how big he can get!). He has the attitude and presence. Slap a goatee on him (I like Cage best with facial hair) and a skull cap and we're good to go.

Like Savage said, Tyrese is already a pretty big guy. But he also said in an interview that he was gonna work out A LOT for the movie, and get even BIGGER, like Cage is in the comics. Pure dedication right there.

That, I agree 110% with the rest of Savage's post.

Gibson is Cage. :cmad:

I hope this isn't a super hero movie in the traditional sense. I don't want to see any costumes or over the top villians. I think it should be more a movie like Four Brother(and those types of 'street' movies) but the main character just happens to have super powers.

If its done like Spiderman, FF, or Superman it will just be another super hero movie...I think it would be nice to show a different side of super heroes and get away from the traditional mold (like Ghost rider and Blade).

Well with Singleton at the helm, I don't think we have to worry about that...I do worry about it being Steel without the costume though.

I'd definitely prefer Heroes for Hire. Firstly, the concept itself has never been explored creatively enough for my taste. Second, Powerman without Iron Fist is just another movie tough guy. The two of them together done as the first superhero buddy flick would make a big splash and be a welcome change from all the 'lone hero on a selfless crusade' adaptations.

C'mon, what would you do with powers? Save the world for free? The H4H approach would just make them approachable; deconstructed superheroes, new to the game and made of dubious moral fiber. I'd love to see them with an actual office, Heroes for Hire neon sign flickering in the window. I always thought an update should reflect our logo obsessed, materialistic generation. It be great if their 'costumes' looked like NASCAR drivers -- covered in sponser logos seeking exposure via the heroes' increasing media coverage! (Yes, I'm aware of the Ghostbuster overtones there. Not a bad model, that flick. Minus the goofy humor and ghoulies, of course.)

As they rise in popularity, the duo face the same problems as real celebrities: paparazzi getting in the way during combat, society expecting them to be role-models, money and fame changing the nature of their friendship and goals. Sure, we've seen those themes explored before, but the comic book setting would put an exciting new spin on it.

Write these two as cool cats with a strong, brotherly bond, a true skill for dispencing violence and a real love for what they do -- and then drop them in a world of other Marvel heroes. I think that bit's essential. No cameos, mind you. We don't want to steal their thunder. But mentioning the existence of whatever characters Marvel films can legally reference would provide a humorous contrast between Cage and Dragon's capitalism and two-fisted justice against the typical superhero methods and motivation.

'Kay, I'm done.

A Luke Cage movie doesn't mean that there won't be a Heroes for hire movie. The way I see it a Luke Cage film could lead into a Heroes for hire film. Like in the sequel he joins heroes for hire and as the audience will be know the Character from the first film it means they can introduce the other characters like the X men films or Blade Trinity did.

Absolutely! That would be a great vehicle for characters like Misty Knight, Coleen Wing, White Tiger, etc., to shine!

The sky's the limit with a Cage/H4H franchise.

Right, but I just feel that Cage on his own would be too similar to films we've already seen, i.e. violent 'ghetto' or 'street' movies where one angry guy takes on the local gangs who are bloodying up the neighborhood. So this time he's got unbreakable skin. Okay. I just don't think that's an original enough concept to hang an entire film on, and set it apart enough that moviegoers will get excited about it and spend money. Remember, before we get a sequel, the first film has to turn a profit.

Shaft is a better known character than Powerman, got his start in mainstream entertainment (not comics), and had what everyone considered to be a dream team of Jon Singleton and Sam Jackson remaking it. How could it miss? But in the end, it was just another violent street movie and it was DOA in theatres.

IMO, H4H is an interesting twist on the superhero genre and generates all kinds of story possibilites. It gives the tough, angry street hero a zen, cool-headed buddy to provide contrast and some humor. Also, the concept of heroes out to get paid would appeal to a generation raised on MTV Cribs and the phrase "bling-bling."

Now, once the movie makes its mint, then I'm all for expanding the roster in the sequels.

I prefer the buddy flick. I mean you didn't need a movie establishing Jackie Chan's character before adding Chris Tucker in Rush Hour. Luke Cage and Iron Fist are pretty much famous for Heroes for Hire. This isn't like The Avengers where these are big shot loners that got together. These were C-listers that became B-listers when they got together.

Savage, you just said in five sentences what I took two long-winded posts to express! =)

I wonder who they'll hire as Luke Cage's wheelchair-bound, yet spunky technical wizard sidekick.

Seriously, Gibson's a great choice and I have a feeling Singleton will make it really gritty and rough.

Am I the only person not totally thrilled with Tyrese as a choice for this role?

This is not to say he's a poor actor; he's definitely got the chops and I loved his prior work...but something about him is not striking me right as Luke Cage. Maybe it's the clean-shaven face (even though Luke has been depicted that way in the panels from time to time too), or perhaps it's his height....but I dunno. Something is not clicking with me for this casting choice.

Henry Simmons embodies the character better in my opinion--especially physiquewise.

True but at the moment Marvel aren't saying lets do a heroes for hire movie on their current roster of upcoming movies and if a studio is willing to put up the cash to a Luke Cage movie they may as well take it. Atleast someones intrested in getting this movie made unlike the iron fist movie. You never know Danny could pop up in the movie if the studio that owns the rights to the character gives them up.

This Henry Simmons?:

The one who has such tour de forces of Oscar-worthy performances on his resume as "Medea's Family Reunion" and "Taxi"? I'm not seeing it, personally. His face doesn't fit and he's nowhere near as big as Gibson.

This Henry Simmons?:

Ehn, not that one. This version embodies Luke more in my humble opinion...

Actually, as a former bodybuilder he's bigger...

...and at 6'4 he's substantially taller than Tyrese's 5'11.

As far as acting abilities, I never saw Taxi, but from what I've seen with Gladiator and the NYPD series, he seemed just as solid as Ty. I dunno...Luke is supposed to have a "larger-than-life" presence and Tyrese doesn't do it for me. At least not as sufficiently as this guy or a few other African-American actors I can think of.

So how many different Henry Simmons are there? At any rate, the one you're mentioning has a good build for the part. I've never seen him in anything, so I can't comment on his acting ability. Tyrese definitely has the chops and the presence from everything I've seen him in, though. The other thing I like about Tyrese is that he's genuinely excited about the role and loves the character and that would go a long way into making sure that Luke Cage is done justice. Just as long as they don't cast The Rock in the part.

It's the same guy actually Jag...Henry had to slim down for a role, but since then he's bulked back up to his normal weight. It's the latter physique I had in mind when considering the role of Luke.

I do agree with you that Tyrese is a great actor and could capture the essence of the character. But for some reason I want these future casting choices to actually LOOK like the comic characters. Is that wrong? I guess I'm just tired of actors being cast because they have the "essence" of heroes (Jessica Alba for Invisible Woman? yeah. )...I'm really more about aesthetics at this point in the game.

As far as your comment on casting the Rock: A-fricken-men. LOL :down

I don't disagree about wanting actors to at least resemble the characters they are portraying. I don't think Tyrese looks EXACTLY like Luke Cage but he does resemble him in certain ways, too. It's not an Alba situation by any means.
