No full confirmation. But it seems a given, with all that happens in TFA. TFA is about the search for Luke. By the end, they find him. And of course there is more room for him to have his character in VIII as well.

I agree, he is a Jedi Master you know. The saintly look suits him. I can't wait to see him kick some arse though.

The first set piece look of Luke Skywalker has finally been leaked. I like that he's gone full circle into becoming in appearance to "Old Ben Kenobi" a regard jedi master. I could cry right now…


The look seems to take from his Grand Master appearance only with an aged beard added .

I love the photo so much. I know it is just a simple costume test, but it gives me chills. The same sort as seeing Han and Chewie on the Falcon again. It is exactly how I dreamed old Luke would be. If we were allowed to post the leaked photo, the perfect caption for the post would be:
"You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

Hamil should of lost more weight, costume looks good, but i was hoping for more of Lukes personal Touch (like the all black outfit in Jedi) then a "wise older jedi master" look that seems standard.

It's also the style of the full length samurai-style OT robes. They add bulk. Alec Guinness didn't look that slim in his robes either. Hamill looks great. I think Luke's new look is a nice development. The ROTJ style robes you posted are more fitting for a young, active Jedi, maybe Rey and Finn will wear something similar during the course of the ST. The full length OT robes have much more of a wizardly, priest sort of look, which works best for a Jedi master. I think Luke's garb is an interesting development of the OT robes. They are the same cut as Ben's and Force Ghost Anakin's, but they have a difference colour palette. The light coloured hooded outer robe is very new. I wonder what it is meant to say about who Luke has become. After all, the black Jedi robes in ROTJ were meant to be evocative of the tension in him. The hint of his father's darkness, but also his mastery of the Jedi arts.

Luke was in black in ROTJ because at that point he was still skirting the line between the light side and the dark side, and didn't truly become a Jedi until the end when he rejected the Emperor's attempt to convert him. The Luke Skywalker we're seeing in Episode VII is Luke in full Jedi mode, a champion of the light.

Yes, it reminded me of that too. I love that painting so much. Also reminded me of the picture of Luke from the book Crucible. If I can only buy one action figure from the Force Awakens it would be the Grand Master Skywalker.

So is ford lol just saying he looks pudgy and luke should be luke not obi wan. I think this movie will adress those questions of "Who is Luke Skywalker" like jj said. Is he a clone of Obi wan Or is he That same man who wEnt against yoda in empire to save his friends.

That's the type of world Star Wars is, though. It's a fairy tale world where the heroes and villains are easy to spot. Shades of gray are rare or completely nonexistent.

It's a refreshing change of pace when a lot of contemporary film/TV skews the other direction.

^ Since they're pulling from the past so much in the form of old drafts/designs etc, and from the way the galaxy seems to be set up, we may well see more shades of grey as the trilogy progresses. Way back when, GL said the PT would be about a democracy becoming a dictatorship and very political, the OT was the black-and-white adventure and that the ST would deal with the shades in-between, about the blurring lines between good and evil etc. I can see it eventually playing out like that.

Not digging Luke's white and khaki colored robes at all. Should have kept the black. And I preferred the pants and tucked shirt style of the PT Jedi to this OT Obi-wan style robe.

I am sure Luke has a wardrobe of clothes. I doubt he'll only being wearing this throughout the trilogy. I'm guessing this is his meditation/seclusion attire. I really like it though. But I would like to see different clothing too. Similar to the original trilogy. It would have been boring to see the white robes of Tatooine throughout the trilogy right? hehe. Plus different clothing means more action figures of Luke!!
