Are people sure she's Luke's daughter? I don't think she is going to end up being revealed as that, though I did at first.

Aren't Jedi not supposed to have sex, that was used to show Anakin disobeying that Jedi rule to further become a sith. Though I guess since his kids are both good and Vader ends up saving the day in ROTJ, that could've been changed.

I'd say maybe she could be in some way related to Obi Wan or the Skywalkers, but maybe not as direct.

I thought this to at first, but then I go back to Star Wars is about the sky walkers .. It's about those familial relationships.. Fathers and sons.. Now grandfathers and grandsons, and fathers and daughters.. If she were not related to the skywalkers that would probably be as big of a twist as when Vader first revealed himself as Luke's father.

I think the prequel trilogy clearly established that the Jedi's dogmatic views contributed to their down fall. Luke redeems his father due to them being unable to reject their attachment to each other while Kenobi and Yoda were of the thought that Luke had to kill Vader. So I think Luke would establish a Jedi order that would encourage healthy attachment.

I also think with the way everything went with Luke in the OT, bringing balance to the force meant accepting that you can't suppress your dark side, you have to accept it and find the balance between the two. Kinda like in Inside Out (weird example, I know), you need the sadness in order to ultimately learn to be happy

I think one of the council members was actually married and had children as a result of the rules of his own home world.

And I think it was also stated that Obi-Wan was most likely not a virgin as well.

The marketing materials said "A Jedi shall not know anger. Nor hatred. Nor love." So where was this stated by Lucas? The Jedi weren't breeding other Jedi. They used the Force to find Force sensitive children when they were babies and took them from their homes to raise them as Jedi.

Not a bad idea but rather one that was misread.

It showed how the Jedi Order had grown completely out of touch and hypocritical, they cherry picked what rules they could break themselves while being ridiculously strict and overbearing on Anakin. Luke demonstrated that you can use emotion and passion with the intention of defending your friends and for the greater good without succumbing to the dark side.

Luke practiced his own belief system based around the cliffnote/altered variations of the force teachings that Obi Wan and Yoda taught him which were retooled solely for Luke to defeat Vader. Both Obi Wan and Yoda realized the failures of the Old Jedi teachings which is why they didn't begrudge or guilt trip Luke all that much when he decides to head out to Cloud City.

Yeah I loved the looks he gave, can't wait to see it again tomorrow. I'm going with my friends and I just hope they aren't pissed off by the amount of screentime he has...I love that the movie basically sets us up for that right off from the first sentence though.

It made total sense of why Luke was reluctant to grab it right away and why he just looked at it sad. Seemed pretty obvious through out the film Luke didn't want his sabre anymore. The ending was him remembering tragic memories..thus him about to have tears.

Rey will probably have to convince Luke to train her

Him not grabbing the saber conveyed that he was not ready to be a Jedi again. It just looked weird the way she was holding it out to him. She was too far away...

He passed on what he learned to a new generation of Jedi including the other Skywalker's son. It didn't work out then in the first try.
