Any one else find it blatently ignorent that Lex is critisising Superman for not sharing" his powers with man kind???

Considering that's really all he does do. Unless he seriously expects him to some how bestow others with his abilities.

I understand the whol essentially jelousy thing, where he views himself as superiour, an also how he believes in humanity striving for something better but not being able to do that if they see something so perfect in Superman and it is something unobtainible to humans.

But how does Superman not sharing his powers work into that exactly, when that's, like I said, all he really does do.

Granted I like the quote and it starting to kinda hint at that reasoning for his hatred of Superman, but it is flawed with the sharing thingy.

Any one else wondering about this, or have any thoughts?

maybe he considers the crystals "power", knowledge is power mumbo jumbo

He means knowledge. Knowledge is power. And krypton is lightyears ahead of our puny planet so he's accusing superman of hording all that for himself and not letting us become as advanced as his old world was.

You're taking the quote too literally.

It's a nicely written line that expresses Lex's frustration that Superman has all these powers, yet Lex cannot grasp them. He cannot, (and never will have), these powers. So, naturally, Lex does the next best thing and steals Superman's technology (the Kryptonian crystals).

Hmm, I didn't get that from the trailer's, but ofcourse that could very well make sense in the context of the film, if it is presented that way.

But I took it as refering to Superman's powers especially with the whold 'Superman being above humans' is kinda the root of his issues with him.

But interesting ideas.

Lex wants to be a God-like figure, which is what Superman is. He's a God on Earth. Just imagine how frustrated Lex must feel knowing he will never have such power. I suppose that line of dialogue perfectly sums it all up.

Superman has a reason to keep it to himself. If that power fell into the wrong hands (which it does) disasters happen (which they do) Better to keep it secrete when the world is ready, he'll share it.

I know, I agree with the intent of the line and how it does that, but how can he claim Superman is not sharing his powers though. That is the question.

I was taking it as Kal-el not sharing his technology. And the answer, of course, is that the human race (LEX!!) isn't ready for such power.

He is talking about the technology, as these good people have said. But to take it a step further, it's really Lex just feeling neglected and bitter, that Superman doesn't share his power with HIM, and help HIM in HIS cause, because in Luthor's twisted head, he IS humanity.

Superman can share his powers - it just takes Lex putting him in a test tube. Superman doesn't want that of course.

Remember, classically, Lex is a scientist and an absolute genius, if there is science there is a way. You can take Superman's DNA and create a human Kryptonian hybrid - oh wait Clark already did that by accident and then fled the country! *NARF* :)

Lex, as many humans, understandably would say: "What gives him the right to decide when to share it? What if he turns on us instead? Then what do we do?"

Superman gives you NO choice but to trust him. If you don't trust that he will never use his powers improperly or imprudently, then you fear him and then you must control him. As fans of the guy, who plays the ultimate hero, we often forget that. In the real world, if you knew one person in the world had so much power, enough to feed the world - but he doesn't, enough to stop wars - but he doesn't...and with all of that equally enough power to destroy every living thing on the planet...would you think twice?

Isn't that the thing with Lex? He's really jealous b/c he considers Superman a god.....and in the end, that's what Lex wants. To be a god.

So, he lashes out at Superman for it.

Atleast, I thought that was a part of the character.....

Lex is sort of that humanity part.....that part that is very very paranoid that, eventually, Superman will turn on them. Heck, it happened in the animated series....

I think sometimes Lex wants to be the God or more powerful than his enemy, Superman...

its teh title from a comic book where lex thinks that he is the good guy and superman is the villain. :O

Lex can't stand the fact that an alien has come to be symbolized as the worlds savior/hero on earth... That's part of why he hates superman that much. And Lex's (GOD) quote is just another way of him to express it!
