Magnum P.I.

Upon further review it turns out they were talking about the chop shop owner who talked to Rick, not the food vendor. I remember him as a surfer friend of Kono's. My 5-0 fanatic friend does say that Taylor Wiley is scheduled for a future Magnum episode
He's supposedly in either the 2nd episode or the 3rd one. It also sounds like they'll eventually get McGarrett to cross paths due to their Navy SEAL backgrounds.

Really entertaing pilot even though they gave away most of it in the trailer, I liked the cast, especially Magnum and the new Higgins, and I liked the story, the bit with Magnum searching the sunken ship was very cool, and while the production values and action wont stay at this level hopefully it wont dip too much. They changed the big finale stunt slightly and I thought it was a missed opportunity to not use a burst of the classic theme when Magnum jumped onto the chopper, all round it was a good start.

The Hawaii Five-0 character that was in the ep was the medical examiner Noelani.

Maybe they can get LL Cool J and NCIS:LA back and run a three way crossover like the Chicago series with L&O SVU did. To make up for the last CBS SEAL reunion got ruined by Alex O'Laughlin's injury and rehab and Daniel Dae Kim's Lt Chin-Ho Kelly stood in for McGarrett.

The original Magnum PI crossed over with Simon and Simon and I am reasonable sure that show had also name dropped Magnum PI as a TV show before the network started doing the two part crossovers.

Coming into Magnum with only limited exposure to the old series, I enjoyed the show much more than I expected. In the limited time they had, I liked the cast just fine and the action beats were good, even though I thought the case felt a bit rushed and almost secondary due to them trying to get as much backstory in as possible. I think with the introductions out of the way, they can now start building their newer version of Magnum and his friends. It does seem that the show has run into the problem of nostalgia for the old cast/show since many people online said they didn't like or watch the show because Hernandez can't replicate Selleck's presence and charm (few can in that regard) and/or they don't like that Higgins is now a woman.

The pilot was okay and I can definitely see elements of the original. The Masters estate looks the same and they have the two Dobermans again. And some of the filming looks similar.

It looks a bit like a cross between Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum though. It's like a H50 plot with Magnum dressing.

I'm glad they had the theme tune with the helicopter dive at the start. I think it's a bit too short though. Even H50 has a longer theme tune (but cut down by 30 seconds from the original).

I find the main actors rather bland though and somewhat uncharismatic. TC and Rick are especially generic. The originals had more personality and a certain distinctiveness.

The actress who plays Higgins is cute though and I don't mind the change. But Hernandez's Magnum no way matches Tom Selleck.

I think the series has potential. It's just that the actors are a bit lacking, and that's the main sticking point.

I read that Kamekona is appearing in the 2nd episode of Magnum. Since he operates helicopter tours on the island, as does TC, I wonder if there's going to be some hostility or rivalry between them.

That tour business rivalry between Kamekona and TC is a possibility. His being an ex-con informant could make Rick the contact like the one on H50 that Chin-Ho started before McGarrett took him over on 5-0 also. Or just someone going by his food truck.

Oh they'll definitely go to his food truck. I'm just saying that Kamekona is likely to raise the issue of the helicopter tours with TC even if they're going to eat at his place. Maybe he'll refuse to serve him food or will charge him extra.

It is a strange bio they gave Team Magnum. Escaped from a POW camp two years ago and now they have all these contacts in Hawaii. As I expected it was Rick that knew Kamekona, who showed up on the McDanno's set. Unless Tyler Wiley is just physically unable to continue working, unless I miss my bet Magnum will become ohana to Kamekona too.

So the female Higgins is really quite cute. But I think this show is going to end up a bit different from the original Magnum. The dynamic between Magnum and Higgins is just very different.

There's already a kind of sexual tension between them. The fact that they're also working cases together is already making this more like Moonlighting or Castle. They start off not liking each other that much but you can then see a thawing in the relationship.

At least he's got a red Ferrari back again this week.

I think the moustache doesn't really suit him as shown in the flashback. It works for some people but not so much for him. But maybe it's because he had longer hair. I'd have to see it again on him with the shorter hair. Maybe it would look different.

Given the star power they would want McGarrett to make up for the missed reunion with Sam Hanna of NCIS:LA. However now given the two years ago time frame and LT Kelly's replacement Junior also being a SEAL, Junior would be the more natural contact point than McGarrett

Perdita Weeks is really very cute. She's got a great smile too.

I didn't see it at first but her big sister was Sam in Foyle's War

not normally a fan of changing the gender or race of an established character in a reboot but I have to say I love the new Higgins, she is both cute, AND a bad ass how she took out those guys in the pilot and episode 2 wow. oh and I am still heart broken over the destruction of Robin 1 aka the Selleck era Ferrari.

okay this is pretty cool this guy using the 80s version of the theme at a minute and change (apposed to the reboot's less than 30 seconds) recreated the 80s opening using footage from the new series, well done and I like it a lot.

I saw that too and I think it is a mistake. Magnum and Higgins shouldn't fall into that trope. I really hope they avoid it. Elementary did an excellent job of having a male and female leads who explicitly avoided romantic entanglements.

It's cool for the most part. But he could've used the helicopter dive at the start of the video which they even have in the new Magnum PI credits. It's one of the most iconic visual things about the original, which is why they recreated it for the new version. It's not just a helicopter flying around randomly at the start like in this video.

Well Elementary did it well, but that's because they even show there's no sexual tension or chemistry between them.

In Magnum, they already have this banter between them, and Juliette keeps flashing these wry smiles which often come across as really flirty. It's not that she's necessarily doing that deliberately as a character. It's that Perdita Weeks has this alluring smile that instantly charms you.

I've seen some articles saying that she could actually be the breakout star of this series, and other articles saying that we should have a spin-off of her character when she was in MI6.

Well her Higgins character is a spy who by nature should keep that flirtatious nature as a weapon. As opposed to a doctor working with addicted patients.

Oh ,yeah that. they also need to show if jack from mcguyver know sam too. you what would make this cool? is if when magnum entered bud's camp with Nuzo he met both McGarrett, & sam Hanna and they were in a unit that comprised Seal team af few delta force operatore and few Marin's corp and one of them was the guy that was in the show scorpion that was walter's father figure that later became the home land secruity agent & handler for team scorpion.

And this is befor sam met his wife Michel cause it lead to him joining the Cia task force and then later NCIS the under cover section of it. And magnum nuzo met TC & rick cause the latter were part of the USMC that the team scorpion guy lead badoe those four went to that place they became POW's. and jack became cia operative pre meeting mac. while Mcgarret stay with naval intellgence & the seals before going back home to Hawaii.

yeah I'm ok with those two never becoming a thing. But sadly not all writer think this way. it's only few that ever make it this way in certain entertaiment mediums. It's a rareity . But I do like it when writer's show this reality. not every that the opposite sex (even same sex)of the protagnist need's to be a love interest or some that need's to have been beded by the protagnist.

There need to be some people that are just friend or best friend's. Simple as that.

as therhergetting her own show tha't be cool .

I have no idea who this "Sam" is whom you're talking about.
