"There's a lot going on in the movie, but part of it is kind of battling my dark side. Peter Parker's own kind of character flaws manifesting into …. " Maguire begins stumbling about, trying not to give too much away.

"Basically, there's the goo, right? The symbiont which has, like, a dark energy, like the goo from the thing that creates venom." To someone not totally versant in the Spider-Man mythology, Maguire sounds vaguely demented. He realizes it, laughs and backs up. He's not referring to venom, but Venom, "a very, very popular character from the later Spider-Man comics. He has the same kind of attributes that Spider-Man has, but he's just stronger, faster and more vicious than Spider-Man. And it comes from this goo that comes from outer space, so first the goo comes and gets hold of me."

The person who wrote that article for the L.A. Times online is an idiot. It's symbiote not symbiont and versant means the slope of a mountain. But on the other hand...

Thanks to the poster, and it's good news.

From space?

That's too comics-ish I think. Besides, it doesn't ven sound realistic :down

I'd just like to go on record saying that I was 1 of the first if not the 1st person here on these boards that declared the symbiot would come from space via John Jameson if we ever got venom in a spidey movie. I fought people like slag and symbiotica over this and now I stand supremely correct. It just made sense. My excuse was that John Jameson was introduced into sm2 for more than just getting together with MJ because they could have used any other guy but seeing as John is who he is it made sense that if they should ever use venom, John would go off and get it from space ala the 90 animated series.

:whatever: Of course it sounds comics-ish and dont start with this being unrealistic crap again. Its been done to death already and we're getting it so...

I think the bigger question now is if the symbiote come from a meteor or the space shuttle. I have heard rumors of both.

It's a friggin COMIC BOOK movie. Of course it's going to be 'comic-ish', this series never strayed from that.:o

It's surrealistic.

I personally think they should've gone with the symbiote's USM storyline, but no matter.

Great news anyhow!

CAH

im glad its from outer space, it probably will come to earth by meteore:yay::spidey::venom:.

Wow! Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

That quote goes down as one of the best. That's like a quote I saw on a Batman cape.

"Caution: Cape does not enable user to fly."

the symbiote being from outer space makes it even scarier in a cool way, it also follows the comics more which is a great thing.

Sounds like it's from TAS orgin more instead of the Secret Wars one. That particular orgin is too long and complex to put in a movie so this one is more convenient and still cool.

yeah, TAS is the origin for the symbiote in spidey3, which is very cool, we still dont know though if the symbiote comes to earth by a meteore or by john jamieson bringing it back to earth, there have been rumors of both of them so we dont know which one it is yet.

Yeah, it's good that the symbiote will be alien. That's the way it was, and always should be. It's a whole lot better then some test tube experiment gone wrong. Leave Ultimate Spider-Man to Ultimate Spider-man. Besides, whether we like it or not, the search for extraterrestrial life is very real. I always pushed for alien origin, but was willing for a more down to earth origin, but this is very good.

And in the long run, it is a movie, after all.

It was always pretty much a given...Still its good to see Rami staying faithfull to the comics.

yup, the scary but cool thing about it is that it comes to earth and latches on to the guy who protects the city by that i mean spiderman, the alien has a mind of its own and tries to block things from peters mind, very important things, its ganna be exciting to see this on film.

Jameson bringing back would be cool. Either way they choose it's okay.

agreed, sticking to the comics is the best thing you can do in a comic book movie, it helps the fans, or should i say us fan boys see that this happened in the comics now we are seeing it actually happen, sam has done an AMAZING! job at doing that.
