‘SMALLVILLE’: EP BRIAN PETERSON PREVIEWS THE HOMESTRETCH, INCLUDING THE RETURN OF MICHAEL ROSENBAUM
The end of Smallville is inevitable, but I know that doesn’t make it any easier to cope with. But hopefully this scoop from executive producer Brian Peterson will. And because every bit of information is crucial at this point, I say we do this transcript style. And before you ask, yes, this is just a piece. There’s much more where this came from. So. Much. More. But I just couldn’t let you go hungry.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First, and very importantly, how much of a role will Michael Rosenbaum play in the finale?
BRIAN PETERSON: What I can say is, everybody that is in the finale plays a supporting role in Clark [Tom Welling] getting toward his ultimate moment. And Michael is no different from the other characters in that, and he’s very important. But it’s about Clark.
What can you say about the next few episodes?
First of all, every one of the last five episodes kind of has its own place. We very purposefully planned. The first one back, “Kent,” it’s kind of a thriller that is really heartwarming. And then we have “Booster” that is this really fun, glossy superhero that’s come to town and thrown a wrench in Clark’s plans. After that, we have a really cool, kind of Clark all-over quest. And then we come to “Prophecy,” which pushes us off in a really big, emotional way with a surprise and a twist toward the finale. The characters have a big, emotional journey going into the finale, but [those episodes also explain] a little bit of the mythology thread we’ve woven through the season. It really revs that up. So we get to see our big baddie coming as we go toward the finale.
Is there anything more you can tell us about “Booster,” which Tom Welling is directing?
It’s really fun because while we introduce Booster and Jaime as Blue Beetle, both those stories dovetail really nicely with Clark at the cross-section of those stories. It’s a great episode because it’s not only fun, but it also tells a really good, deep story about heroism. And then it’s really fun because right after that, we go into Justin Hartley’s directorial debut. And so we have Tom and Justin back-to-back directing. They’re two really different episodes, but both wildly cool.
“Dominion” is going to bring back Zod, right?
That’s the return of Zod…. The way we bring back Zod is, I think, really fun, and it’s fun to see Oliver interacting with Zod. But the way we leave it, hopefully fans will really enjoy the way we leave Zod and will recognize the final image of him very clearly.
Next Friday, return to ITV for more Smallville!

I think that last statement suggests that we will see a Zod with a goatee, and possibly a merging between the Major and General by the end of the episode.

I wonder, if it may be possibly for Oliver to release Zod, assuming he is under Darkseid's control.

I'm reeeeally hoping that's what they mean...

It gives me great hope to hear him say that the last five episodes are "very purposefully planned."

Yet again, it's crazy to again be reminded of how few episodes are left in the series.

As excited as I am about all that Peterson has to say, the part that really sticks out to me is regarding Prophecy... "pushes off in a really big, emotional way with a surprise and a twist toward the finale."

Since Oliver returns in Dominion, I think he will be controlled by Darkseid at this point and will release Zod from the Phantom Zone. If we have both Zods - General and Major - in this episode, I think we will see a merging of the two Zods to form the one, true Zod in the end.

I'm more concerned about the finale in that if Clark still needs pushing by that point, then the whole journey is in vain. He should be confident and ready to become Superman by that point. The last thing I need to see is a lightswitch. :super:

Clark hasn't needed pushing since season 9 IMO. Ever since he became The Blur, he's pretty much Superman without the costume and name. So I don't see how anyone can think of a "lightswitch".

I'm so glad that they have ackowledged that the focus will be on Clark in Finale far too many times in this show he's been a supporting character.

Looks like we're getting General Zod and it sounds like it will be the real Zod. I did wonder how they would have brought Major Zod back so I guess releasing the real Zod from the phantom zone makes sense if thats what happrns.

And I hope this "It really revs that up. So we get to see our big baddie coming as we go toward the finale." means we're getting the actual Darkseid and not someone possessed by him.

Pretty much this. Clark already is Superman, especially considering years ago when he wouldn't leave SV, then finally decided to start making saves in Metropolis after season 8, and now as of Masquerade, he is starting to go international. He is definitely already that Superman is.

I'm wondering though, how will he get the name. I'm thinking Lois will write an an article and Call him Superman, and it will just stick almost like when she came up with the Green Arrow Bandit. :hehe:

Yea, me thinks that Phantom Zod is going to use Clone Zod as his new body.

That will be awesome! :hehe:

Some nice ew spoilers of the last episodes. As for zod thing probably will just be clone one for the episode then in the end he get sent to the pz and last image we see of that episode is phatomm zod taking over clone body. Also some nice ksite articles today. I liked a couple of them.

HA! I just watched that episode. It was on HDNet within the past few days. Today's episode was "Labyrinth".

Pretty much from season 8 onward Clark became Superman in character (sans the red cape and blue tights with the name Superman known publicly)

But I thought when the Kryptonians were sent whereever they went they could never return?

He's pretty much Superman without the name, suit, and flight, most of which will be in the series finale. :super:

It's likely General Zod as they were filming stuff in the Phantom Zone. I hope they don't just use the finale to focus on Clark, these final 5 episodes have to focus on him as well to build him up towards Superman. Just using the finale to focus on him spells rushing, cramming, and lightswitching. :super:

Ya bh they said they couldn't return. But they can always come up with a good reason.

Oh milos for all we know rosenbaumm could still be larger role then the other supporting guys. We don't know how all the guest will be used.

Milos the only thing that says is that yes Michael is very important but like all the other characters he's not going to steal the show from Clark.
