Making the perfect Spidey suit

That's a set or a copy of Nayef's webbing. He was on these boards a few years back. I used his webbing on one of my earlier suits. He made a minor error in his webbing pattern on the of the back of the head and didnt have smooth transitions between the thick and thin parts.

Should be webbing where the red line is and no webbing on the circled yellow part.

This pic shows the step down on the mask.

From memory this stepping was also on the hands and feet webbing.

dont know whoes they were based off of but there was a guy on ebay 3 years back that was selling webbing and other movie props he took way 2 long 2 produce order and 2 send me my molds took me a year 2 get my order but thats besides the point he promised me up and down that thay were 100% movie accurate so i bought them and cashed in on some favors at work and had my friends at work take measurments and 3D model thema and print them out so i could silicone mold them as it was easier and cheaper 2 have tham do that than have cad files made and milled and thay were good enough for a while till i started doing more resrch into the costume and got the real measurments and dimentions thats y i am now having cad files made thats y i dont really post pix or advertise that i have them as like u said brad thay look great and 2 the normal every day costume maker thay look perfect but 2 the hard core spidey costumers like me and a few others here we can now spot the differences but if you are saying i recast them and im not saying you are because i know you are not some 1 who sturs up crap they were not i just picked the wrong set 2 modl off of

What's the purpose of the "stepping"? Is it as visible on the outside of the mask as it is in that picture? Or does the "stepping" go on the underside where the glue is placed?

The stepping occured as Nayef didnt have a true 3D tool path drawn up for his CNC guy to cut or the guy simply didnt know what he was doing...probably the latter as Nayef did spend a lot of time working of his details. They simply ran the grinder at 2 different depths to obtain the 2 different webbing heights. The stepping of this webbing is on the outside and is pretty visible.

Here's a pic of a suit I made using this webbing about 3 years ago. You can see the stepping quite clearly... but not from a distance.

The correct method is to have a gradual increase and decrease in depth as shown below.

Brad , wht u means is the webbing on the face like in my picture, the head webbing are one piece ?

Nope...

See the step in the thickness of the webbing on this pic. Then look on the mask picture I posted above. The top one. You can see the step in the thickness... but it's obviously not a major issue as most people dont notice it.

The webbing on your suit.. Yuri's was made the correct way with gradual change in thickness.

yes Brad, u r right. the step of the thickness looks not that perfect especially the 1st picture mask that u post.

that shows that all of u are improve time after time for making the perfect spidey suit, all the sharing and tips, so that many of spidey big fans like me can hav the chance to make and own a perfect spidey costume.

100% correct brad there should be a gradual gradient between the thick and thin parts of the webbing. But that’s why they say hind sight is 20/20 because of how amped I got when I made my first suit with 2 me was perfect …looking back now I see that it is far from it. But that’s why I have spent so much time reading all the spidey movie books watching every DVD and making of DVDs freeze framing reference pix and talking 2 every person whose name I could find who was even slightly involve in the movies I know now that once my cad files are made for my webbing and my molds are cut all that time will be well worth it. 3 years of R&D has defiantly paid off. Now all I need is for my graphic artiest 2 finish with my bricking file so I can have my silk screen made for my black suit and I can finally after 3 long years pick another superhero 2 obsess over lol….. Any suggestions on a good superhero
Oh side note I am working with Todd McFarlane and the president of his toy company 2 make a prototype spawn comic costume I plan on making a few for my self 2 sell on eBay if any 1 may be interested in a spawn costume please pm me so I can send you pix of the prototype

Nice Suit man..I see you decided to go with the printed Spiders instead of Urethane?...Printed Spiders look nice as well less problems for you.. at least dont have to worry about them coming off... Are you deciding to place your own Frames and Lenses or someone elses?

It's much better then my current suit. I wanted to make my own lenses, but it seems I don't have the skill right now. I am looking a jesters. I figure I will shop around to see what I like.

Yea, this is my second one, and that first was also all printed. I figure they are not 100% accurate, but it is much easier to take care of.

Hey Justin, I was checking out your myspace. Where'd you get the base for this? I found it amoungst your pics.

Are you expecting to read that it's from you, Brad?
Just asking.

I know it's not from me, as I have never made & sold any of my digital files so Im just wondering where / how it was obtained? It's been altered but it a bat suit I made about 2 or 3 years ago.

Maybe he stole it from ya:P
Well maybe he made it himself (based from the countless patterns scattered over the internet)

brogz007 sorry buddy mike has sent me hundreds of color swatches and things like that over the years because he changes his mind every other day on what he likes lol as do i but i had that thrown in with everything beause he sent it 2 me 1 day in an email with other samples and movie pix he liked my bad honest mistake but i will take that down 4 ya

Look I want 2 say 2 brad and every 1 else on this thread that I am not re-casting other peoples work or stealing other peoples files. I have access 2, 3D digital printers and body scanners mill machines and dyesup and digital direct printers I have digital 3d modelers and graphic designers and cad guys working for me and this is all just from where I work I also as you see from my pix am a sculptor and mold maker why would I need 2 rip off some 1 else’s hard work copy the idea yes as we all are doing here but recast or steal I don’t need 2 do. I know people like Ernie my come here and steal peoples work and pass it off as their own but I am not him costuming and sculpting is my life this is what I do all day. Day in and day out so I have the time 2 make mine look just like the original or what ever I was modeling it off of and that may sound cocky or arrogant but that is not what I am trying 2 come across as I am a hard working guy trying 2 be the best at what he does and that is not a bad dream for any 1 to have.

Woah there fella.... Im not saying you've stolen anything. I was mearly asking if you knew its origins. Your PM cleared it up perfectly and I thank you. And sorry if my comments on the webbing you posted offended or implied you're re-casting. That was not my intensions. I was mearly pointing out its creator as I've used his webbing in the past and know its unique characteristics... for all I knew you may have bought the molds off him.

Your posts on the Jester FX made costume pieces you're working on are fantastic... the whole headshell with magnetic eye frames has not been done before and Im lookinng forward to seeing the finished work. :D

Brad.

My bad then..
Because I thought that you (Brad) was implying that he stole it from you.
That is why I overreacted (in a sarcatic manner) so you'd see that it would actually be silly to amediatly assume that he got it from you.

ps. That buckle looks slick. Go Judge Dredd!:P

I don't mean to throw a spanner in the works but the spidey head-shell with magnetic frames has been done before.
