Hey guys, I'm starting to sculpt my own face shell. It is going to have the magnetic lens feature.

I'm curious if anyone has some good reference pictures?? I know there are a few back on the board.. but it's going to be a pain to track them down :wow:

Sure....

Please post pics of your final sculpt b4 the master is made. If you need a mask to pull over the sculpt to ensure everything is lined up properly just holler!!

Cheers
Brad

Decided to share a picture of me breaking out my spidey suit one last time before I replace the webbing this tax return season.

Ain't it weird how by just putting on a costume you become the centre of attention!!

Cool pic. :)

Guys does anyone have a problem with the zippers on the suit when they get loose like this:

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=163061&id=1655437228because the suit gets alittle tight when you put it on what can I do to fix this problem is there any way that I can fix it without me having to replace it.. if I have to replace it how can I replace it and where can I buy the zippers to replace them and are they hard to replace? thanks guys

got a question on paints and silicone. I have heard that you can add a little silicone to a paint to help it adhere to any silicone projects you are painting. Do this apply to most types of paint, or just acrylics?

if you are going to paint silicone you can mix up small amounts of silicone and paint to tint the silicone or you can go get any clear silicone in a tupe from a hard ware store i would use oil paint also you can buy silicone pigment from smoothon.com they are called smooth sill and they also sell a product call psycho paint that allows the paint to adhear to the silicone it is a little costly but works amazing that is the best way to go and depending on the size job you are doing smooth on offers 99% of their products in sample kits that are real cheap and most of their products are a 1:1 mix so a little goes a long way

Here's the most current work on my faceshell. Still in the very beginning of the sculpt; I'm just getting some very basic shapes formed out. I think what I've found with most faceshells, is they are too big. I'm going to try to keep this one very small like I feel is in the movie:

Looking good so far. I'm waiting for Spidy4funs lenses since I don't think jesters will get here in time. However, Spidey4fun's is in Cali, and I'm on the otherside of the U.S....hope they get here by sat!!!!!

Can anyone send me the dimensions for Spiderman lenses, 2 or 3? In case my lenses don't show up I am doing to make a quick set.
Thank you!

Shape looks good. Just need ensure the eye fames placement is correct.. right one looks good, but needs to be tested with a mesh over the top. That will make or brake it!!

Brad.

Hey, thanks Brad. I've been spending a lot of time making sure the faceshell's curve matches the frames. Still have a long way to go but here's from more in progress pictures :

Got my 4fun faceshell & lenses today! I am so revealed. This hasn't been my week, but this just made it better!

I'm really impressed by this!

you can't tell in the photo but the mask has nose and mouth holes cut.

Quick question. How do you glue the lenses on the mask (fabric mask). I tried to attach the lenses to the faceshell with those adhesive magnets, but they were not srong enought. I didn't want to glue it as I have jesters set coming soon, hopefully. But if I have to i will glue them this this suit, sell it, and get a new one. Is there a way I can get the lenses off if I glue it to the lenses to the lycra mask?

Thanks!

It was. But I've got a lot of experience in art. I've made a lot of spidey suits, and done many other works in clay, plaster, alabaster, metal, copper, silver, paint etc... you name it I've used it. I've been working with art for years, so I've got quite an attention for detail and making proportions and such look right.

AH! I'm very frustrated right now though. The faceshell busted. I had one eye completely carved out, and the frame fit in perfectly. I was starting on the other eye, when a little crack appeared on the bottom of the shell. I decided to take pictures of the progress for reference and to show you guys. But as I feared, once I tried to repair the crack, the whole faceshell went downhill. I'll post the progress pictures soon.

I learned a lot while working on the sculpt, and of course will try again. I am quite confident the next one will be much better.

Are you not using oil based clay?

No:whatever:
I'm using earthenware because I'm pretty familiar with how it works, and I got it for free:woot:. I had a larger mannequin head than mine, so I figured I'd make it on that, then pull it off and stuff it with newspaper to help keep it's form until it dried. This way it wouldn't crack, and it would dry up a small fit to my head like I was talking about earlier. After It dried up I took the newspaper out, and it was a nice fit. I thought the clay wouldn't crack if it wasn't on a solid form. But I know why it cracked, and it had nothing to do with it being earthenware.

Anyways, here are the progress pcitures.. I'll try not to throw anything while posting them. :cmad: I should have known better than to work on it friday the 13th.
