I thought the chat between Ultron and Vision at the end was one of the best parts of the movie, and better than anything with Zod in MOS.

There is good to it. I did feel genuine pity for Ultron. And it was wise restraint not to show an additional punch there.

The scene is undermined by Vision's false philosophy of humans being clueless about order and chaos. The links between these subjects have been studied and understood for like 100 years. Whedon just threw in some drunk guy in a bar philosophy. It was distracting.

Both villains were disappointments, IMO, and both were outshone by their respective henchwomen (Faora and Scarlet Witch)

It was an interesting conversation. And I totally loved Visions "Well I was born yesterday" line. And keeping Vision a wild card was a great idea IMO.

And that's why Ultron says he's naive

"Unbearably" so. Looks like DA_champion and Ultron are on the same page there. :oldrazz:

Beyond the actual dialogue, I just loved the idea of the scene. The last remnant of Ultron being hunted by his own image of perfection, and the way Vision gracefully deals with this insane murder-bot is very poignant to me. I'm terrible at expressing what I mean, but the dichotomy between the two, one purely good and naive, and the other evil but evolved, was played out beautifully in that very personal little scene.

It was also a very welcome quiet, thoughtful moment after an entire movie full of blasts and explosions and non-stop action. So even if the scene isn't perfect, I love the idea of it.

It was sort of a Yin and Yang moment for me. Ultron was truly afraid of Vision. What's so interesting about that was earlier in the movie he said to the twins, " Everyone creates the thing they dread". Very ironic line.:hehe:

My preferred movie is now losing ... should I go register 20 or 30 new screennames to tilt the poll? Maybe I should message 100 SHH users I don't know and ask them to vote?

;-)

These young people voting Age of Ultron just don't know how to appreciate the classics, that's what's happening here!

I remember reading about a member here who did that with a TDKR poll.

Faora gets a lot of love but I understand none of it. She was a henchman who looked pretty badass, I'll give her that, but she wasn't anything to write home about.

Faora was fun.

I agree that she looked pretty cool and had some good lines. She was fine in her role. But I wouldn't call her a standout. I found her to be pretty bland other than looking and sounding cool.

Sometimes characters get a lot more recognition than they deserve, for example Bobba Fett in Star Wars is a nothing character with three minutes of screentime, but he has become a pop culture icon.

That is because he rocked those three minutes. Further, he kind of amplifies the story because it just really makes sense that a character like Bobba Fett would exist in that universe ... he is a round peg in a round hole.

Faora is exactly what she is supposed to be. Someone bred and raised to be a soldier.

I didn't care for either Ultron or Vision. They both bored me to tears, and with their "funny" moments, I wasn't laughing.

Vision looked great, but the character was mainly action fodder. I expect the character to live up to his potential more in future movies as a character.

Agreed, that scene is what finally sold me on Ultron as a villain.

I think this idea of "If you didn't like either movie, you're either this or that" is BS, and if I made a post saying "You either liked MOS/AOU because you already decided you liked it before you got to the theater, or you're just a MCU/Superman fanboy who'd love it no matter what" , I would most certainly get called out on it.

I won't deny that SOME people were disappointed in MOS or AOU for those reasons, but to act like everyone unsatisfied with either film is one of two categories?

Fair enough.

I guess I shouldn't have made it sound like ALL of the detractors of either film fit into those two categories. Though I do feel that both MOS and AOU have been judged more harshly than a lot of other films in the genre. And I think that a lot of that had to do with expectations being sky high for each one and then fans being disappointed that the films didn't quite live up to those expectations. For example, I think Thor: TDW is easily worse than either film and certainly the worst MCU film, but I don't see it being ripped by fans on a daily basis.

Anyway, you and I have gotten into some heated arguments in the past over MOS in particular, but in all honesty, I actually agree with you more often then not. So, truce? Sorry if I've gone off the rails a few times in my defense of MOS, haha.

Woot. AOU has finally taken the lead. About time.

My lord some people need to get a life

Sure I need a life just because I'm pleased AOU is winning. The bitter words of an MOS fanboy troll. Bet you would have said nothing if I was happy MOS was winning.

Ha ha, I definitely wouldn't be in here saying yes MOS is winning because I'm not a sad troll. I love it I've stated many times but I do t feel the need to **** on people that don't either. I feel sorry for you if this is the kind of thing that makes you happy, little sad to hate a movie so much that you are happy that it's losing a poll don't you think? There's plenty of movies I don't like aswell but I don't get excited when these films lose polls.

Though I liked MOS better, I have to say I liked Ultron better than Zod. Michael Shannon did fine in the role, but James Spader is just so damn fun.

As for me, it is hard for me to choose one villain for the other as they were both great. I loved Zod because I could actually understand his intentions and sympathized with him on certain points. He tried to be reasonable every now and then. He is not a complete ass****..

On the other hand, Ultron is just really cool. If they made him darker and more of a threat than he is, then I would've chosen Ultron over Zod. Most of his lines were great but sometimes they really tried to bring humor to his dialogue that I wasn't happy with. I know some people liked some humor but personally I felt they should have kept Ultron out of it.

Ultron had a great couple of lines though. My favorite were ,"As I always say, keep your friends rich, and your enemies rich, and then find out which is which." And when he called out Captain America's hypocrisy. Funniest line in the film. I was really surprised how funny they made Ultron.

I think Zod was a good villain though. He needed more screentime and personality. I never bought the whole "genetically engineered" to be a soldier bit. Because when he gives off that speech to Kal-El just before the battle (great moment there BTW), it just didn't aligned with what happened before hand. Though I did feel sorry for Zod. Contrast that with Ultrons speech to Widow. I really felt sympathy for Ultron at that point and felt his pain. Both great actors who should have been given more to do. Ultron was so much like Red Reddington from the Blacklist, especially with the whole scene with Klaw.

When you say that, do you mean the comics Ultron or completely the movie incarnation? Because I personally found nothing cool about James Spader's Ultron. :( I agree with your comments that I also would have preferred to see him darker and more of a threat instead of quipping all the time.
