SR has pretty good legs, so it is lucky, because it could stay alive after POTC2 opening.
actually, it doesnt have good legs, we'll find out next weekend what its true staying power is, but i doubt it'll be BB kind.

Once again, Pirates delivers a too long of a film that felt like it was 4 hours long. I fell asleep during the first film, and this did the same thing to me almost. The first hour had some fun stuff, but that's about it..........

Records are made to be broken, so congrats to Bruckheimer, but overall, Supes was the better made film.

Christ I wish people would stop trying to pass their opinion off as fact. I vastly enjoyed POTC2 more than Supes. And so did everyone in the group I saw it with. In my opinion, POTC2 was the better made film.

Based on everything I've heard, I see this as true, also. Many people were adamant that Singer would put forth a really great film, and it would resonate with the fans, and really usher in a great franchise with Superman.

This clearly has not happened, and many people in the industry as well as the boards, are scrambling to defend the film, and Singer in an unprecedented amount of damage control and spin that would make a politician proud.

There's no absolute that SR was great or not great. All we can do is go by what the fans like or dislike. Fans are turning out enmasse to see POTC 2 in a way they are not with SR. Aspects of SR have really turned off the masses, and this has to do with Singer's insistence on following the Donner film so closely.

Sadly, it's likely that Singer will do a sequel. Will he learn from his mistake? That remains to be seen. People like Raimi, Jackson, and Verbinski, Bruckheimer, or Bay know what the fans want. Whether one likes their approach or not, they deliver epic sweeping films that the fans can enjoy. Sometimes they miss, but generally hit the mark more often than not. Singer was due for a dud. It's unfortunate that it was with Superman, but he did not heed the warning signs as to what has made a modern superhero successful. If he had, he would have looked at what made Spiderman successful. While Raimi did take aspects and ideas from the Donner film as well, he also had the foresight to know what the fans wanted, because he understood Spiderman. Singer only understood the Donner film, and Superman is more than just that film. Factor in that he really has a poor writing team in Harris and Daugherty who were in well over their head, and this all adds up to a film that is less than it had the capability of being.

Verbinski put all the pieces together in a way that everyone can enjoy. Singer didn't. There is no one to blame but Singer.

Money doesn't mean is the movie good or not.

Why then critics liked?

We can say it was good or not, if we liked it.

He liked it more than POTC2, and that is his openion, you cant change him.

thats not what he said . he tried to state that supes was a better made film as fact. when the audience that helped potc2 make its 132 million dollar weekend felt potc2 was a better made film. or else SR wouldve been breaking records.

he can like the movie all he wants, doesnt change the fact that the majority thought potc2 was the better made film. plain and simple.

I actually felt the same way about Pirates the 1st time, it dragged a lot for me.

And yes I really wanted SR to succeed and I really wanted to like it more but it had flaws.

If Pirates 2 is exactly like 1, I feel I will feel the same way about it. I haven't even watched Pirates 1 more than twice even when it was on DVD and cable.

When did I say it was a fact? I stated my opinion on the matter, if you don't like it, move on.

Whatever you say Skippy............

Actually, the people that know me know that I wasn't a fan of the first film either - it has nothing to do with POTC2's box office. How could I be bitter when I liked SR better?

You will will feel the same way, trust me. Obviously make your own judgement on it, but my bet is you'll react the same way to this film.

Well maybe it's good that my expectations are low for Pirates 2 then. I might enjoy it more.

yeah i guess thats why it broke records at the BO. while superman is slowly crawling just to get to 200 million.

Hilarious, when will people ever learn.

I guess you think Adam Sandler's CLICK is a better film than Michael Mann's HEAT then?

Are you trying to influence someone before they see a film??

It was just the way you worded it. And from the couple of posts after mine it looked like I wasn't the only one that took it that way. :hulk:

No, and if someone actually was influenced by someone on a message board, they need some help.

He asked, I answered, simple.

Maybe so, but every single post here is all opinion based for the most part, and should only be taken as such.

Doesn't look like he was asking anything.

I thought both movies were mediocre.

At least POTC2 entertained me a bit and made me smile during some scenes...the last hour was pretty good actually.

Superman Returns was just plain BAD all the way through....had nothing new to offer whatsoever.

Wow, this thread is divided agianst Superman fans vs Pirate fans.

I loved both films, but deffinetly POTC won in the boxoffice catagory.

Wow, wish I had seen this thread a month ago so I could have stood up for Pirates when massive essays were being written as to why it would fail against Superman.

As for the films themselves, I never doubted Pirates' success over Superman. I'm not going to lie, I don't like Superman, so I didn't go in expecting much.

I don't like Hulk and I hate Batman with a passion. But I still went to Hulk And Batman Begins, and damn if the movies weren't so amazing that I still loved them.

Superman, though. I fell asleep. Never happened before for me. Ever. I used to question how people could go pay money and enter a theater... and then fall asleep. It bored me beyond belief. Just terrible.

Pirates? What can I say. It rocked. It built on the first film, introduced new things, had the coolest action scene dare I say it since the original Matrix. I saw it at midnight Friday and twice on Saturday. Noticed more and more every time. It's funny, epic, mysterious, moving, exciting, unexpected, and completely true to the spirit of pirates in general.

I just want to know ..... At what point did Singer decide to just serve up the same old content again ??

WHY .... ???? ...... Why do we need to have Lex again. Hackman WAS Lex ... He was great and thats that.

Give us something new .... Someone who can go toe-toe with Superman and blow us away!

Superman Returns is failing because it is not dragging people down to the cinema ....

Look at Spider-man 3 .... they are giving the fans what they want ... some people love Venom ... Some hate him ... but they are creating fresh dangers for Spidey and you just know its going to be BIG.

SR has critical success, while POTC2 has one of the highest numbers in box office.

Both movie as I think, will be great for me.

SR was never going to be a hit like PotC...it just wasn't fun. PotC has the fun factor going for it.

In addition to SR's target audience all being in their 40's, I think people were turned off by the fact that Superman was kind of a jerk in the movie.

Well IMO Pirates and SR had a lot of the same elements its just Pirates was better at the execution.
